“Why did you follow my daughter?”

Duke Percival asked, wanting to confirm his suspicion. Phileal glanced back for a moment and then continued walking.

“Anais asked me to come. She wanted to leave the palace.”

“Really?”

“No, that’s a lie. At first, I suggested going, but Anais refused. Then she said she wanted to leave, so we came together.”

“Why tell such a pointless lie?”

“I thought it would have been better if Anais had suggested it first.”

As Phileal said this with a sly smile, Duke Percival thought he was a peculiar person.

Phileal was the Second Bishop of Death. Many priests of death feared him. Although he appeared cheerful and approachable, he was ultimately a priest who offered people as sacrifices.

As the Second Bishop, he often took on responsibilities for the High Priest, and the priests of death feared his strictness and intolerance for mistakes.

Duke Percival had spent five years in prison. During that time, many individuals associated with him had passed through. Some were brought in as test subjects, including wizards, paladins, and priests.

Phileal typically dealt with high-ranking individuals. So, it was strange that he wouldn’t remember something.

“What is your relationship with my daughter?”

“I don’t know. I’ll have to ask her later.”

Duke Percival shot Phileal a glare, wondering if he was joking. However, Phileal’s expression seemed genuinely clueless, which forced Duke Percival to suppress his rising anger.

“You followed her all the way here without knowing what your relationship is?”

“I don’t know what our relationship is, but I like Anais. I want her to be happy, and I want to support her.”

“……”

“Is that not enough?”

Duke Percival was taken aback by Phileal’s nonchalant words.

“Can you swear to that before God?”

“I don’t understand what people think of priests. They always demand an oath to God for everything.”

“Are you saying you won’t swear?”

“I will. I swear it. I’ll swear to God with my life on it. Is that enough?”

Phileal sounded a bit irritated. Ever since arriving at the palace, he had heard so many demands to swear by God that it felt sacrilegious to him.

“That’s because you’re a priest of death.”

“Did you wake up, Anais?”

“I’m tired.”

“Your voice is hoarse. Don’t talk, just sleep more.”

“Okay.”

Phileal began to walk slowly as she snuggled her neck against him again. He thought to himself that she was right. He was a priest of death, and people feared him.

Seeing their attitudes, Duke Percival decided to trust Phileal. Above all, he needed him to prevent his daughter’s disappearance. They headed toward the village inn.

After returning to the palace, Lewarren carried Lilith and went to the High Priest of Death. The High Priest was waiting in Kylian’s chambers.

Since the High Priest had disappeared, there had been ongoing searches within the palace. However, the priests of death had been unable to betray him, and Leviathan had no reports to act upon.

When Lewarren arrived at Kylian’s chamber and saw that all the guards were dead, he sighed and opened the door.

“You’re late.”

“Lilith collapsed.”

“I’ve taken care of things here. Someone was trying to put up a futile resistance, and that’s how it ended up like this.”

Lewarren frowned as he lowered Lilith onto the magical circle.

“How long can she hold out?”

“She should be fine until the job is done.”

As Lewarren sighed, he added his own divine energy to that of the High Priest of Death, channeling it toward Lilith. As the energy flowed into her, color returned to her cheeks.

“What about the High Priest of Life?”

“I’ve set aside some divine energy, just in case we need it.”

Mephist, the High Priest of Death, answered. Lewarren knew that the High Priest of Life would also be essential for this task, so he anticipated the need for both of them.

“Right.”

The High Priest of Death observed Lewarren pushing back his long brown hair with a hint of frustration.

“As long as Lady Anais returns, everything will go according to plan.”

“I know.”

“So don’t worry too much.”

Neither Lewarren nor Lilith, nor anyone else in the palace, thought that Anais would leave Kylian first.

“But why isn’t the God of Death on your side?”

“The God of Death wishes for the original body to host its original soul.”

“That can’t happen.”

“I know that. Which is why I’m cooperating.”

The High Priest of Death let out a sigh and continued.

“As long as Lady Anais returns, we can fully channel the power of the God of Death into her body.”
