When the Villainess Died, the Male Lead Went Crazy - Chapter 118.1
“Come along quietly, Anais.”
“Let go!”
Anais tried to shake off Lewarren’s grip as he roughly pulled her toward the gate. But Lewarren stubbornly held onto her hand, dragging her along. Anais felt her feet being dragged.
She didn’t want to go back like this. She couldn’t understand Lilith’s plan, and more importantly, she was nowhere near ready to face Kylian.
“Anais!”
At Lewarren’s shout, Anais pulled her arm away even more resolutely.
That was when it happened. Boom! Bang! Crash! The building began to shake violently.
“Break it down in two hours.”
“Has it really been that long already?”
Anais felt a rush of panic. As the building shook, debris began to fall from above.
“Follow me quickly!”
“Let go!”
Lewarren momentarily released her to focus on the stones falling above them, using his powers to turn them to dust. At that moment, Anais broke free from his grasp.
“Anais!”
“Phileal! I’m here!”
Phileal was calling for Anais as he rushed inside. Lewarren was using his powers to reduce the falling stones to ashes above them.
“Ugh…”
“Lilith.”
“I’m losing energy. We need to go back.”
Lewarren shouted and grimaced.
“What? We can’t leave now. We have to take Anais with us.”
“Ugh…!”
At that moment, Lilith spat out blood.
“What’s happening over there… Lewarren?”
Lewarren’s expression turned to panic. The gate seemed on the verge of collapse. If any more stones fell, Anais’s body would lose its vitality while they were trying to return to the palace.
“Damn it.”
Seeing Lilith collapse and lose consciousness, Lewarren decided it was time to retreat. If the building fell, the gate would be destroyed. He could only cause destruction, not restoration, so staying there was no longer feasible.
“I’ll see you again soon, Anais.”
With those words, Lewarren hoisted Lilith over his shoulder and crossed through the gate.
“Anais!”
Phileal rushed to her and hugged her tightly.
Crash! It was as if an invisible dome protected only Anais and Phileal, as the rest of the building collapsed in chaos around them.
Finally, the sky was visible, and Anais found herself gazing at the black shield of divine energy that protected her and Phileal.
“You did well, Phileal.”
“Did I? I really struggled for two hours.”
“Yes, you did great.”
She gently stroked Phileal’s hair, which was flushed with emotion.
“I almost got dragged back to the palace.”
“I saw. The High Priest of Destruction and the Empress were there.”
“Yes.”
Anais looked around again. Amid the ruins of the fallen temple, skeletal remains and various traces still lingered.
“This place feels too suspicious.”
“Everything’s collapsed.”
“A collapse can be repaired.”
Duke Percival emerged, dusting himself off.
“Dad.”
Anais gasped in surprise as she turned to him. Oddly, none of the words and promises he had planned to say to her came to mind. The only person who made him struggle to find words was his daughter. He had always spoken freely, and no one had dared to oppose him.
“Dad, what are you doing here?”
But he was at a loss for words. His mind was blank, unsure of what to say.
“Anais.”
“Ah.”
Anais was surprised that Duke Percival addressed her by her name. Phileal hugged her tightly and sighed before releasing her. Slowly, Anais walked toward her father.
“Dad, how did you know?”
“How could I not know?”
Duke Percival’s lips formed a thin line before he gradually spoke.
“I’m sorry for recognizing it so late.”
Hearing her father’s apology, all the suppressed sadness Anais had held back began to spill over.
“Ugh….”
“Anais.”
Duke Percival gently patted her shoulder, clearly at a loss by her tears and unsure how to respond.
“Huwaa….”
“Anais, I’m sorry.”
Phileal was taken aback. It wasn’t the first time he had seen Anais cry. But witnessing her weep like a child in front of Duke Percival was surprising. At the same time, it struck him that she was capable of showing such vulnerability to someone other than him.
“Anais.”
Duke Percival hugged her and patted her. Anais felt as if she had been transported back to being ten years old.
“Huuh, huh….!”
“It’s okay. It’s alright. Yes, Dad made a mistake.”
“Ugh…!”
“Just forgive me this once, okay?”
As he patted her back to comfort her, Anais cried even harder. She sobbed so pitifully that Phileal felt helpless and only paced nearby.
It took a long time for Anais to calm down. In reality, she hadn’t completely settled. She was simply exhausted from crying and was being carried back to the village.
“I told you I could carry her.”
“You’re older, Duke. I’m strong.”
Phileal stubbornly insisted on carrying Anais. Duke Percival respected him for accompanying Anais to this far-off island. He appreciated what he had heard about Phileal’s words and how close they seemed to be.
They appeared quite close indeed.
