“…He, hello.”
I thought it would be impossible today as ‘guests’ had come. So Ian sending me a knight right away surprised me a little. And on the other hand, I felt strange.
He used the title ‘Lady’ when he called me.
I couldn’t say anything and just pursed my lips.
“Do you want to go out right away?”
I hesitated at Daniel’s question and nodded.
“Can I stop by Lady Nicola’s place for a moment before I go?”
Daniel’s expression went strange for a moment, but he quickly straightened it.
“Yes, of course.”
I didn’t know why Daniel had such an expression, but later I found out why. The two people called ‘Lady’ in the Duchy, both surrounded by bad rumors, were meeting. That’s why he made that unreadable expression.
After talking to Daniel for a while, I returned to my room and tried to get ready. When I was about to leave, I didn’t know what to bring.
“Ah…”
The sudden realization made me stiff. I finally realized that I had never been outside since I was born.
That fact was pretty shocking.
Not only when I was living in the County, but long before that, I had only lived in the mountains. Mother went out alone to get all the necessities she needed at the time.
It must have felt so natural to me that I wondered why I hadn’t realized it until now. Feeling so stupid that I had only just discovered this, I couldn’t move.
Then, in a flash, I came to my senses, roughly prepared and went out.
“I think I will go to Lady Nicola next time. I will go out like this.”
“Yes, then I’ll guide you.”
I walked with Daniel. Further past the main building, there was a place where carriages were kept.
“Lady, please wait here for a moment. I’ll be right back.”
I stood there blankly. For some reason, I was still dazed. Is it normal that I haven’t gone out once since I was born?
I had never even had doubts about it. was the most astonishing and terrifying thing. Come to think of it, Mother never asked me to go out somewhere else.
“Shouldn’t she have asked me at least once?”
I was very curious about her thoughts of hiding me, but Mother was no longer in this world, and so she would not be able to give me the answer.
It was an impulsive choice.
I didn’t feel like going to the omega doctor—just that I wanted to go out. Despite not feeling suffocated at the Duchy so far, I suddenly felt as though my throat was tightening up.
I wanted to leave the Duchy quickly.
Even though it will be a short outing, at least I wanted to go out.
After waiting for a while, a carriage came and stopped right in front of me. It was an old-fashioned and large carriage, although it did not have the Duchy’s coat of arms.
Daniel came from the other side.
“Lady, please hold my hand while you board.”
“…Thank you.”
The coachman opened the door, I took Daniel’s arm, and climbed into the carriage. It was a little different from the Duchy’s carriage that I had ridden before, but it had a luxurious interior.
As I sat down, the door closed and the carriage started.
Passing through the iron gate, I could hear the horses starting to gallop faster. I peeked out the curtain covering the window to check outside.
Trees by the street passed quickly, and soon other buildings began to appear. I couldn’t take my eyes off the scenery outside.
I couldn’t describe what I was feeling.
It was scary, exciting, and sad.
I resented my Mother and Father…
…and cursed myself for being a fool.
I was watching the scenery in an indescribable feeling, but the carriage suddenly stopped and Daniel rode his horse up to the window.
“Pardon me, Lady. We stopped for a while because I didn’t ask for a destination. Where should we go?”
I hadn’t thought about my destination because I was just going out. I was supposed to visit the omega doctor, but I did not know where it was. That’s why I was going to ask Lady Nicola…
“…Someplace crowded.”
“What?”
I don’t even know what answer came out of my mouth.
“Anywhere is fine as long as it’s crowded.”
Yes, I wanted to see people I didn’t know, not the people I knew every day. I became very curious about how other people live.
Daniel hesitated for a while before answering me.
“A crowded place would be the town square.”
“Really?”
“Yes. There is a clock tower there, so it was often used as a meeting place.”
“Then… please go there.”
“Yes, Lady.”
Daniel approached the coachman and the stopped carriage started going again. The wide road gradually narrowed and a narrow stone road emerged.
Then the surrounding scenery changed dramatically. Instead of the sparse mansions, there were small, compact houses. The sound of children’s laughter coming from inside made me smile.
After exiting the residential area, a large square appeared. The carriage came to a halt while driving along the road that surrounded the plaza. The door opened and Daniel politely held out his hand.
“We have arrived, Lady.”
“…Thank you.”
As I took his arm and got out of the carriage, the commotion through the window became more vivid. Everyone in the square was laughing and talking with someone.
The fountain in the middle of the square was refreshing just to look at, and the clock tower rose high. Just on time, the clear bell signaled that it was four in the afternoon.
“Is there a place you want to go?”
I stood still as I got off the carriage, and I silently shook my head at Daniel’s question. I moved my feet slowly.
I approached the fountain, avoiding the crowds, and sat there staring at the people passing their time.
Then I moved again and looked at the shops near the square. Daniel silently followed me as I looked around the various stores. There was a music box store, a doll store, and a bookstore.
“There’s an ice cream shop too?
“Yes, there is.”
Daniel looked strange again.
I ignored him and snooped around the ice cream shop.
When I was at the Rosewood County, the ice cream that Mother had brought a few times was a luxury dessert to me.
