We're in a Contract Marriage, But I've Imprinted - Chapter 142
While I felt suspicious of the kindness from someone I had just met, I was in no state to do otherwise, so I reluctantly agreed.
After she pressed something, a group of people soon arrived, all of whom were women. I looked at them curiously, and a woman with sky-blue hair stepped forward.
“Hello. I’m sure you have many questions. Were you startled?”
“…Uh, um.”
“No, don’t speak. Just nodding is fine.”
She must have noticed that I was trying to speak, but the sky-blue haired woman gently instructed.
“My name is Lucia, and this place is known to the public as the Magic Tower.”
“….”
I was quite surprised by her revelation. Even though I wasn’t very worldly, I had heard of the Magic Tower. The name Pedro also flashed through my mind.
Was I in the place owned by him? Was he the one who helped me, when he was Ian’s friend? Or was there some other reason for my being here?
Noticing my expression, Lucia added with a gentle smile.
“Hmm, I sense you’re worried… First thing you should know is that the person you think is the Tower’s master isn’t the real one.”
Not the real master? Did she mean that Pedro was pretending to be the Tower Master?
“Of course, including you, most people believe Pedro is the master. Technically, it’s believed that an alpha holds that position.”
It wasn’t an easy explanation to digest. As I looked at her with a puzzled expression, she continued.
“All the wizards here are omegas. Each has their own story to tell…”
Lucia extended her hands towards the other individuals present, briefly introducing them before continuing.
“A proper introduction can wait until you’ve recovered, but there’s something important I need to say.”
Her tone suddenly became serious. So it made me realize that she was about to discuss my current condition.
“When I found you, you had already lost consciousness. You inhaled a lot of smoke, which has severely affected your throat. You also sustained burns on your arms and legs.”
“I see…”
Words slipped out before I fully grasped the reality that the horrifying events I endured weren’t just a nightmare. While I was grateful for the help, the reason why I ended up in the Magic Tower was still unclear.
Lucia seemed to read my expression and addressed my question before I got to ask them.
“Don’t you remember?”
“…what?”
“Magic users are rare, and usually, we recognize each other’s energy, much like omegas are aware of each other’s pheromones due to their unique energetic signatures.”
“….?”
“I sensed a new magical energy suddenly. When I investigated, I found a frail omega unleashing power to protect herself.”
“What do you mean…?”
Lucia looked at me earnestly, as if her next words were the conclusion to all my unanswered questions. The puzzle pieces I hadn’t even realized were misaligned began to fit together seamlessly.
Lucia then added as she notified me.
“Congratulations, Melissa, you’ve awakened as a wizard.”
“…That can’t be right.”
“I know it’s a lot to take in.”
“How could this…?”
“Shh, it’s best not to talk too much right now. It could strain your throat.”
I slowly nodded as she told me not to speak.
“It’s okay. I’ll explain everything you’re curious about, just take your time to process this.”
“That’s right, Melissa. There’s more you need to know.”
A woman who had spoken to me earlier, whom I was seeing for the first time, continued.
“I’m Sarah. Please, call me Sarah.”
I nodded again.
“I’ll introduce you to everyone else here later.”
Sarah added, noticing my gaze drifting around the room.
The realization that everyone here was an omega, and that I had awakened as a wizard, was overwhelming.
“…This might be a bit hard to explain; we’ve debated how to tell you. But honesty is the best policy, right?”
Lucia said, and I nodded in response.
“Omegas have their pheromone glands closely linked to where their magic originates. When your magic was unleashed, it severely damaged your pheromone glands. We’re not sure exactly how it happened, but there were signs of previous injury, and there’s a risk it could affect your magic too. Sadly, it’s irreparable.”
The fragmented memories of my childhood that had surfaced in my dream seemed to have been more than just dreams. It seemed likely that my mother had been responsible for damaging my pheromone glands.
“That explains it.”
I nodded understandingly. Lucia explained again.
“Omega wizards are a bit different from alphas and betas. Their pheromone levels and magical abilities are correlated. The more dominant the omega, the higher their magic potential.”
This was new information to me. My mother had been a wizard too, but she had never mentioned such things.
Putting aside the memories of my mother for the moment, I remembered something Nicola said. The omega doctor she mentioned. Was she similar to the omegas here?
“But the magic you awakened this time…. It was astonishingly powerful, surpassing even me, the Tower Master. For reference, I am near the top tier of dominant omegas.”
“What…?!”
“Haha, it’s quite shocking. I was surprised too. That someone known as an extreme recessive omega could awaken a power typical of an extreme dominant omega. According to our research, this isn’t just an anomaly. That’s why I’ve developed a hypothesis.”
A mix of anxiety and anticipation churned inside me, and I felt like I almost knew what she was about to say.
