If I had a watch and a book, I wouldn’t have to go through the dreadful situation like before. Even though I didn’t want to express it too desperately, the muscles in my cheeks twitched involuntarily.

A faint question mark appeared on Raniero’s face at my request.

It seemed he was trying to understand the significance of why I would need a clock and something to read. But with just a little thought, the answer was apparent.

His eyes finally moved away from my face, and he scanned the room.

A room that only functions as a bedroom, with nothing to pass the time. As I listened to him, my heart was pounding, and the tears had stopped. I stared at him blankly with my lips parted.

“Make only my visit your joy, your salvation.”

Madness and glee gleamed in his crimson eyes, and I suddenly realized anew what it meant to be cruel by nature.

A gentle hand pushed me deeper into the pit of despair.

“The more loneliness torments you, the more my presence will become a dazzling light to you…”

Raniero looked like a child who had received a mountain of birthday presents. He showered kisses endlessly on my cheeks and forehead.

“The time we spend together will be happy and sweet.”

The ‘right answer’ he chose was all wrong to me.
