He hasn’t come to see me once since the last incident. It was both reassuring and frightening since I didn’t know where Raniero Actilus might be.

In the meanwhile, Duchess Nerma and Countess Fallon kept following me as they kept giving me reasons why I shouldn’t visit Raniero.

However, faced with that genuinely friendly expression amid the pretentious kindness of those who dislike me… It felt truly agonizing, like a ray of light amidst darkness.

I bit my lip fiercely. If I could get Cisen and Sylvia out of that dreadful place and keep them by my side, these foolish emotions would disappear.

“Angie.”

He called me. His voice was sweet as if he was trying to melt me.

“I didn’t expect you to come.”

As he approached me, everyone around us held their breath and stared only at the two of us. Even without looking around, I could feel their gazes.

I looked up at Raniero.

When he raised his hand to touch me, my body tensed reflexively, and his expression darkened slightly. His hand hesitated in the air for a moment before he withdrew. I pretended not to notice and lowered my gaze.

“I’d like to ask you a favor.”

“What is it?”

His voice was tinged with both anticipation and fear. It was astonishing and somewhat poignant that I was able to read his emotions so clearly.
