Villainous Husband, the One You’re Obsessed With Is Over There - Chapter 191
Chapter 96.1
These days, my body has been feeling heavy and weak. My condition was worse than ever. Was it because of stress?
Maybe it was because of stress because there was no one around me on my side. I still remember the hostility that was reflected deep in the eyes of Duchess Nerma. She was different from Roberta Jacques since she was someone who knew how to wield her claws. So, since then, she hasn’t revealed anything in front of me like that.
It was only for a fleeting moment that I was confronted with that negative emotion.
Still, the discomfort lingered in my chest, making me anxious about what truth was hidden beneath the maids’ smiling faces. It was difficult to trust their warm and exaggerated hospitality.
“You haven’t been feeling well lately, so I prepared a nourishing meal for you.”
Mealtime.
As I sat at the dining table, Duchess Nerma bowed her waist deeply and continued.
“I’m worried because you’ve been skipping meals often lately. If you want to preserve your health…”
“I’ll take care of it myself.”
I said coldly.
Duchess Nerma stopped talking with a smile on her face. If you scrutinized her eyes now, you might find the same eerie hostility I’d seen before.
But I didn’t.
I just stared silently at the appetizing meat soup in front of me.
In fact, ‘it looks delicious’ is an objective perspective. Strangely enough, my stomach felt upset when I saw the food. The recent decrease in my appetite seemed to be the reason for it. At first, I thought it might be morning sickness, but it was clear it wasn’t because of that. If Raniero and I were having a baby, I would’ve started feeling hungry and wanting to eat more.
Just to be sure, I consulted several doctors, who all agreed that I wasn’t pregnant.
As I forced a spoonful of food into my mouth, my tongue became dry, and I couldn’t taste anything. All that remained was the sensation of a lukewarm, tasteless liquid sliding down my throat.
After eating a little, I put down the spoon.
Duchess Nerma and Countess Fallon’s gazes briefly intertwined in the air.
These days, I noticed their eyes meeting more frequently than before. Well, there was nothing unnatural about the two of them working together. There wasn’t an official change in roles, but Duchess Nerma took on the role of head maid in charge of overseeing the maids, while Countess Fallon was in charge of the role of chief maid, assisting her.
But for some reason, I had a bad feeling about it.
Duchess Nerma asked with a kind smile on her lips.
“Doesn’t suit your taste? Shall I fetch something else for you?”
“I’m done.”
As I stood up from my seat, once again, the gazes of Duchess Nerma and Countess Fallon collided in the air. This time, it was somewhat more blatant.
“Your Majesty, forgive me for being presumptuous…”
“If it’s presumptuous, don’t say it.”
I frowned and replied.
I felt nauseous.
Perhaps because of the nausea, I felt a slight dizziness, and Countess Fallon grabbed hold of me as I staggered.
“It would be best for you to rest a little. If the meal doesn’t suit your taste, I can bring some dried fruit. You like snacks, don’t you?”
She comforted me as if I was a child.
I furrowed my brow.
Suddenly, I felt uncomfortable. Why was she insisting on feeding me like this?
It was true that my body had weakened, and it was true that I needed to eat to regain strength. If it were Cisen or Sylvia saying this, I would have accepted it in good faith. However, coming from them, it seemed suspicious. It was difficult to just accept this kind of kindness after witnessing the coldness in Duchess Nerma’s eyes.
Why would they keep trying to feed me like this when they didn’t have any goodwill towards me?
As I glanced back and forth between the two of them, both of them were facing me with friendly expressions. It was eerie because it seemed like an artificially created expression. I would have preferred it if they had just openly shown their hostility without any pretense.
If things continued like this, I wouldn’t be able to breathe.
I turned on my heel and left the room without saying a word. Duchess Nerma and Countess Fallon immediately followed behind me.
“Where are you going?”
I kept my mouth shut for a moment before responding shortly.
“I’m going to see His Majesty the Emperor.”
Did I really intend to go to Raniero in such a state?
For a moment, the only sound I could hear was the footsteps of the three of us. They were probably exchanging glances with each other again.
“I apologize for the interruption, but it’s time for the political meeting.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’ll wait until he comes out of the conference room.”
“I’m concerned, Your Majesty. You haven’t been feeling well recently, have you? Please pass on any messages you have for the Emperor to us, and rest…”
I ignored them and just kept walking. It was because I didn’t have the energy to get angry or argue. In any case, they could only try to dissuade me with words, but they couldn’t openly block me. As I expected, they just followed me at a brisk pace as I tried my best not to acknowledge them.
It had been a long time since I’d seen Raniero.
