Chapter 82.2

I smiled.

I appreciate it, but it didn’t help.

Then, I opened my mouth with a trembling voice.

“Do we really have to fight? Against someone like that…”

“What if we don’t fight?”

“Couldn’t it be resolved through conversation?”

Even after spitting out those words, I felt like a fool and immediately fell silent. At the same time, a look of astonishment crossed Eden’s face.

“If you really want that…”

“I know.”

I hurriedly interrupted his words.

“There’s no room for conversation in your plan… You must have a clear reason to kill Raniero.”

The words engraved on the old sanctuary’s door came to mind.

‘…When Actilla’s blood is ready, open it with Tunia’s sword.’

Seraphina’s gaze turned toward Eden. Perhaps she was curious about the reason why he had to kill Raniero. However, Eden didn’t meet her gaze, and he only looked at me.

I mumbled, slightly avoiding his eyes.

“I don’t even think I could have a conversation with him when he’s angry.”

The very notion of resolving things through conversation with a war god incarnation was ridiculous. It was more reasonable to assume the sword would come flying the moment we met.

Eden stood up from his seat.

“I’ll try to persuade the captain of the paladins to prepare for battle.”

I nodded.

I didn’t think it would go well.

It was a little while later. Seraphina called me.

“Angelica?”

Hearing the voice coming from behind the door, it seemed like she was in the prayer room. I extended my legs beyond the bed and touched the floor before I put on slippers and draped a light outer garment.

“Seraphina?”

When I slowly opened the door to the prayer room, she was in the midst of a prayer ritual. The candlelight illuminated the dark prayer room as orange shadows danced above the holy water placed in the bowl.

I held my breath, not wanting to disturb her.

Still, why had Seraphina, in the middle of her prayers, called me? She was sitting with her back turned to me, and her long hair was neatly tucked under her headscarf without a strand out of place.

Seraphina, who I had thought was quietly praying, called me again.

“Angelica, come here.”

I was somehow seized by a foreboding feeling. It didn’t sound like her usual voice. It wasn’t a clear and gentle voice but a voice that held a subtle power. It was somewhat sweet and strangely cloying.

Nevertheless, I approached her and obediently said, “Yes.”

“Sit down.”

I sat down, swayed by an irresistible force. Since the prayer room was dimly lit, Seraphina’s face, with her head lowered, wasn’t clearly visible. I hesitantly clasped my hands together and bowed my head, mimicking her.

What was she praying for?

In the midst of my questioning, I stole glances at her when she suddenly lifted her head. Her red eyes stared at me.

“Angie, I’m almost there.”

It was Raniero. He hugged me tightly and smiled.

I woke up breathing heavily.

My heart was pounding so loudly that my ears felt muffled. Seraphina, who was sleeping beside me, woke up and asked in a sleepy voice.

“What’s going on?”

Even as I clutched my chest, my heartbeat just wouldn’t settle down. It was a nightmare I hadn’t dreamed of in a long time… I hadn’t dreamt of it since I had escaped from Actilus. I could feel that Raniero was coming for me. If it had been vague speculation until now, the dream gave me certainty.

‘…He’s coming.’

A voice, unsure whether it was mine or the prophetic conviction I had been feeling so strongly recently, rang in my ears.

‘Close. Soon…’

“He’s close.”

“So close, this quickly? It’s an impossible speed.”

For an ordinary person, that might be true. Though as Raniero became more closely attuned to the God of War, his physical abilities far exceeded those of a human. If he had just come after me without sleeping or eating, this speed might not have been impossible. Oh, but where did I learn about such a setting? I didn’t think it was in the original novel.

Still, it wasn’t important. He was coming for me… to capture me. The fact that he came so quickly meant that his emotions were running very high.

…It was bad news for me.

I shuddered.

Noticing my trembling, Seraphina gently took my hand before she pulled me into an embrace.

“I’m sorry.”

It was another apology with an unclear meaning. Getting up from my seat, I opened the door to the prayer room.

The moment I entered, a certain sentence struck my mind as if hitting me in the chest. I trembled from the shock that the sentence had delivered. The moment I stepped through the doorway and glanced back, Seraphina, who was sitting on the bed, was staring at me with a pale face as if she had a premonition of something.

“You aren’t the sword of Tunia.”

Eden and I had been mistaken.

“I don’t know exactly who it is, but I know it’s not you.”
