Drip—
A small drop of water fell on the body of water, which was in the midst of red boulders.
Drip—
As the sound echoed along the ripples and repetitively rang, it resounded deeper into the cave, spreading throughout.
“How obstinate.”
It refused to match the shape and color of the boulders lay around it.
Pressing down on the huge red boulders with one’s hand, the boulders were immediately crushed into powder, and the resulting gusts shot out everywhere.
“Whether you stay obstinate or leave as you please, I won’t stop you from continuing to wait there for a long time.”
The weak, old man spoke as he pushed the stones slightly out of the way.
“It’s been a while since we last met.”
“Is that so? It feels like it’s only been a couple of days since we last saw each other, so I’m not that glad.”
“The ‘couple of days’ you speak of are actually ten years, Your Majesty.”
“In human time, yes.”
Bursting into a chuckle, the old man nudged Ethan slightly, then he murmured.
“Well, that aside. Over there’s the entryway installation.”
After saying this, the old man flicked one finger over to the direction he had mentioned. Then, the stone that was there went off in a bang.
Thuuuud! BANG!
Their surroundings were immediately filled with loud sounds.
One after another, the boulders that were guarding this place like deep-rooted trees turned their huge bodies as if to avoid the blows.
While staring at that series of changes, the voice could once again be heard from behind.
“Good grief. As obstinate as obstinate could be, really. For someone who hasn’t been to the desert, what does this punk know?”
“Didn’t Your Majesty and your descendants destroy the desert?”
Heat tended to absorb heat.
“…Both then when you were child and now that you’ve grown, you really aren’t afraid of me, hm? You keep talking back just like that.”
The casually spoken words sounded perhaps like a compliment or perhaps like a complaint. And at that, a response as dry as this fake desert that the old man made was returned to him.
“Will Your Majesty prefer if I fear you? If so, then I shall do it.”
“Just hearing you say that is enough to know that you really don’t. Tsk.”
As the old man felt his high spirits deflating once more, he clicked his tongue and turned sharply around.
“Never mind. Just come in and clean up.”
“Why are you making me do what the elves are supposed to do?”
“You don’t even have an ounce of respect for your elders, do you? Both the elves and I are getting old, so we can’t even move our joints properly anymore.”
“I won’t be deceived by your fake wrinkles.”
The old man was walking slowly, but at the young man’s remark, he stopped abruptly.
“You’re much more of a desolate punk than the dragonfolk.”
The old man’s voice changed right then—now sounding like a young woman instead.
“There’s quite a reason why babies don’t talk, huh. But it’s quite fun to hear.”

The old man, or rather, the first emperor of the Pluntria Empire, was the being who was staying in this cave. However, the cave itself changed as well, and Ethan’s surroundings shifted considerably.
A large window appeared, boasting of a wide view of the desert’s horizon where the setting sun’s glow harmonized with the landscape. It was almost like a painting, and a low expression of admiration naturally flowed out.
When he lowered his gaze a little, he saw an enormous bath that’s been carved out of a red boulder, placed in the middle where it had a spectacular view of what’s outside the window.
“I didn’t expect that Your Majesty enjoys bathing with water.”
“Well, you’ll understand if you’ve lived for more than a millennium and a half. I like what I don’t like, I hate what I like.”
While the two of them talked and moved away, there were some elves who passed through the red room. They smiled and greeted him.
“It’s been a while, Ethan.”
“It seems like you’ve gotten even more handsome in the meantime, Ethan.”
Other than the dragonfolk, the other beings who Ethan considered a pain in the neck were the elves. However, they were particularly fond of him.
Tria, watching the scene, clicked her tongue and shook her head.
“As expected, the face is everything.”
They walked towards the central garden, which was such a verdant expanse that was in such stark contrast to the desert just a while ago.
Though it was a garden in the middle of the cave, colorful flowers bloomed peculiarly.
“You’ve grown to have bad taste, Your Majesty.”
“Like I said, you should try living for more than a millennium and a half. Then you’ll become like this, too.”
Saying so, Tria smiled brightly and wordlessly gestured.
Then, a chair and a table were placed in front of the small fountain at the center of the garden.
It was only above the fountain that the cave ceiling gave way. The brilliant sun’s rays shone down on the table. It was perhaps the reason that only this place seemed especially sacred.
“You seem to be having quite a lot of fun these days, Your Majesty.”
As Ethan chuckled, Tria paused and looked back at him.
“Lunia.”
“Yes, Esteemed Elder.”
Tria called the attending elf who was standing some distance away. A question immediately followed.
“By any chance, did the sun rise from the west today?”
“No, Elder.”
“So what’s wrong with this guy?”
Listening to Tria’s futile remarks, Ethan burst into laughter once again. Then, the eyes of the first emperor widened very much.
“Good grief. I really wonder what my grandson has been talking nonsense about, but… You’ve really changed, haven’t you? You’re really smiling like a real human right now, hm?”
It’s a no-brainer who this grandson was. Obviously enough, the one who told her the news was Grand Duke Benedict, who’s been having a lot of fun teasing Ethan these days.
“I know that there’s a time when I didn’t seem human.”
“Right… if you think about it in terms of race. But you…”
Tria trailed off. After observing Ethan’s expression for a long time, she soon smiled.
“This makes me even more curious about that child, Reina Chantra.”
Hearing the name of the very person he came here for, Ethan’s expression changed in an instant.
“Your Majesty. There’s something I must discuss with you.”
