Chapter 39

“Hah, why isn’t she coming?”
Was I always this impatient?
Richt’s lower abdomen throbbed with a heated tension. He furrowed his brows in frustration as he looked around his still-empty bedroom, repeatedly sending signals but receiving no response.
Is she really going to ignore it?
It was a plausible thought. From the moment Luciana had heard about the mating season, she had shown signs of rejecting the idea.
This is driving me crazy. I told her this isn’t something that can be avoided.
Even though Richt knew how irresistible the mating season was and had warned her about it, it was possible she hadn’t fully grasped its severity.
“Damn.”
The moment he thought of Luciana, the tension in his body intensified. Feeling his body heat up more and more, Richt grabbed the magical device once again and sent another signal.
One second. Two seconds. Before long, thirty seconds had passed. The longer he waited for Luciana in the dark, the more his instincts took over, clouding his mind.
His thoughts, now filled with intense longing, circled endlessly around his mate.
Luciana, Lucy…
Just as Richt, gripping the sheets for support, let out a ragged breath—
Flash!
“……!”
A burst of white light erupted in the spot he had designated, and there she was—Luciana, holding the magical device.
“Luciana.”
“……!”
The moment he called her name, he saw her small figure flinch in the shadows.
As soon as he sensed her presence, it felt as if the last thread of restraint he had been holding onto snapped.
“What took you so long?”
With bloodshot eyes from holding back, Richt stood up and immediately walked over to her, pulling her into a tight embrace.
“……!”
His voice was filled with both relief and desperation. It was the kind of tone a man might use when he’s been anxiously waiting for his beloved to return, causing Luciana to momentarily forget to push him away, instead gasping softly.
“Luciana.”
He called her name again, but this time, his voice was different from what she was used to hearing.
Is this really the male lead I know?
His tone was so tender and gentle, like the sweetness of custard melting in her mouth, that it made her doubt whether this was still the same Richt.
“Uh, Your Grace…?”
Thankfully, he didn’t seem like he was about to pounce on her like a beast, contrary to what she had feared.
However, Luciana was too overwhelmed by his unexpected gentleness to gather her thoughts, repeatedly calling out to him in confusion.
When she had infused the magical device with mana, she had been terrified that he might act like the wild version of himself from her nightmares. Although she had honored her promise, not knowing what might happen if she ignored the mating season, her heart had raced uncontrollably all the way to his bedroom.
When their eyes finally met, and even though nothing had happened yet, she felt as though she was being devoured whole just from his piercing red gaze. Clutching her shawl like a protective shield, she felt her fear build.
But contrary to her worries, Richt didn’t force her onto the bed or start tearing off her clothes. Though he had immediately embraced her tightly, it was far more restrained and respectful than she had anticipated.
Not that it meant he was entirely in his right mind, though…
After all, suddenly hugging her like that was still out of character.
Something about Richt seemed…off. While he was clearly affected by the mating season, it felt like he was losing his mind in a strangely refined way.
“Hah…”
“……!”
Her brief moment of distracted thinking was interrupted when his hot breath grazed the nape of her neck, sending a chill down her spine and making her hold her breath.
“Ah! Wait, just—!”
Slurp.
Suddenly, his lips, as hot as fire, latched onto the sensitive skin behind her ear, sucking hard.
The sound of his lips against her skin echoed in her ears, and Luciana’s eyes flew open wide in shock.
Richt, nibbling softly on her tender flesh, pressed a kiss on her now-reddened cheek like sealing a mark.
“Nnh!”
It was almost unbelievable how gentle his touch was for someone whose body was so powerfully built. As his lips trailed across her cheek, the faint warmth of his breath teased her sensitive skin, sending shivers down her spine.
My heart feels like it’s going to burst.
It was just a kiss on the cheek, yet why did it feel like this?
The sensation crawling across her skin was so strange, as if it were alive and breathing, far beyond what could simply be described as ticklish.
