As soon as the question came up, silence quickly descended over the group. Since they had previously been assigned to guard Richt, they knew about Deborah’s presence.
She was the bright lady who always appeared wherever their commander went, asking him about trivial things like the weather or how he was feeling, constantly clinging to him.
Despite how cold Richt had been, to the point where anyone else might have burst into tears, she was the only woman who persistently showed interest without backing down.
“Come on, though. It’s not like there was actually anything between them.”
“Still, lately, it seemed like the commander had softened toward her a bit, hadn’t he?”
“Maybe he just got tired of pushing her away.”

The knights, who had been gossiping about Luciana and Richt’s relationship, exchanged mischievous glances and stood up.
“Where have you been all this time?”

Lik frowned as soon as he arrived at the training grounds, seeing his fellow knights grinning with that suspicious look as they threw their arms around his shoulders.
As expected, the three who reeked of nosiness ganged up on him, pushing him for answers.

No matter what Lik might say, the group wasn’t backing down.
“What were you doing at Rodwell?”
“Why would I tell you that?”
Lik glared at the knights with their unusually sparkling eyes, immediately putting up his guard.

“Do you idiots think it’s okay to mock the commander’s orders? As knights who serve their liege, you’re a disgrace if you don’t treat his tasks with the respect they deserve.”

As Lik tried to pull his arm free and walk away, the most persistent knight clung to him, wrapping his arms around Lik’s waist in a pleading gesture.
“Then tell us this! Is the person involved in this mission Lady Leslie?”

At the knight’s sudden outburst, Lik furrowed his brow, deep in thought. Leslie? Had His Grace ever mentioned that name? The only information he’d received today involved a handkerchief and the name ‘Lillian’.
“What’s with the silence? That must mean I was right, doesn’t it?”
“You fools! I told you I wasn’t seeing things!”
The knights, seeing Lik’s silence, took it as confirmation, but—
“Hah. I don’t know what you guys are thinking, but you’re completely off the mark.”
“What?!”
They were quickly taken aback by Lik’s firm denial.
Lik glanced at them with pity and threw out a final remark.
“I can’t tell you the details, and I’m not planning to, but this has nothing to do with the Leslie family.”
Without looking back, Lik walked off, leaving the knights scratching their heads as they returned to their seats.
“That’s odd… I’m sure I saw pink hair.”
“Let it go. No matter who it is, the fact remains that our future madam will soon be arriving at the estate…”
