The Reason Why She Can’t Get Married - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
“If it’s okay with you, even though I’m a man, can you take me to the hospital?”
“….”
“Please, Lady Selena, you can tie my wrists and ankles if you’d like,” he said, bowing down on the floor with a polite demeanor, resembling a flattened animal.
That was why people like Selena, who had a similar personality, found it difficult to act mean. Selena looked at his pale face without any vitality and let out a heavy sigh.
“Fine, let’s go.”
“Lady, it’s dangerous to let a suspicious man into the carriage.”
“Just tie his limbs like he said. Tell the coachman to bring a rope.”
That day, Selena really tied Lemon’s hands and feet with a rope, and Lemon obediently followed without any resistance. It was even his leg that was injured. They went to the hospital together to treat his injured leg and then parted ways.
A few days later, Lemon appeared in broad daylight, looking clean and neat.
“I want to repay the favor.”
Leaving the perfectly empty sofa behind, he knelt on the floor and spoke with determination. He took off his loose black robe and wore only a tidy shirt and pants, which made his radiant beauty even more noticeable, which Selena liked.
However, that was beside the point, and Selena was puzzled and taken aback by his sudden visit.
“I heard about what Lady Selena does. I may be able to help.”
With a confident voice, Selena reflexively asked, “How?”
“I was abandoned and have lived in back alleys since I was born. As a result, I have a wide network and am proficient in gathering information. Isn’t information important in what you do?”
In fact, the premise he made wasn’t wrong. In order to connect people and revive failed relationships, information was crucial. Knowing what the other person liked or disliked, whether they were hiding any fatal flaws or secrets, was necessary to achieve a beautiful resolution without any regrets.
“Please use me. I don’t ask for anything in return, and I will work for you.”
“…Hmm.”
Selena, who was looking into his eyes, where objects were reflected without a hint of wickedness, pondered for a moment and nodded her head.
“Well, fine. If you have a source of information, it’s good for us too.”
“Are you really going to keep me by your side?”
“When you ask me to use you, you won’t change your mind, right?”
Lemon, who had a bewildered expression, hurriedly nodded his head. His flowing hair naturally fell down, covering his small face.
“Absolutely not. Thank you, Lady Selena, for giving me this opportunity.”
“Take good care of me from now on.”
“Yes, I will. And please feel free to talk to me.” Selena was Selena Irving, and Lemon was Lemon. A person without a surname was a commoner, so Selena, who was a noble, didn’t need to use honorifics with Lemon.
“Alright, Lemon. Let’s do well from now on.” Selena cheerfully smiled and patted Lemon’s shoulder. Her touch was quite rough, but Lemon had a rapturous expression and simply nodded his head meekly.
‘Who would have known that someone so gentle and kind would also be talented?’ Selena finished reminiscing about the past and looked at Lemon in front of her. Her hired informant turned out to be more capable than she had expected. She didn’t know how he collected information so efficiently, but he managed to find out everything she asked for within two weeks.
Well, he even knew whether the person started bathing from their head or body. Lemon’s ability to gather information became the wings that propelled Selena’s success with her business.
Lemon played a significant role in Serenade’s success. However, people can sometimes become arrogant or change when they have such abilities. But after a year had passed, Lemon hadn’t changed much, except for his hair growing a little. He still responded gently, no matter how Selena teased or spoke to him.
“Lemon, I have a request.”
“Please tell me.” Lemon slightly leaned forward, assuming a listening posture with his hands on his waist. His beautiful androgynous face, which had been working hard since morning, sparkled like sunlight.
“Please investigate Dominic Dixon, the son of Marquess Dixon. I want to know about his relationships with women and if he has any secret affairs. He is the person my client has a crush on.”
“Understood.”
“Please do it as quickly as possible.” Selena urged Lemon, as she couldn’t wait long for matters related to the princess. Lemon nodded seriously.
As the two of them chatted and sipped tea, someone knocked on the door.
“It’s Lucy, lady. May I come in?”
“Yes, Lucy. What’s the matter?”
“I have obtained the schedule you asked for regarding the Crown Prince.”
“Oh, that was fast.” Selena put down her teacup and perked up her ears. Lucy handed her a document and informed her about the Crown Prince’s schedule.
“There is only one public event during the week. It’s the royal ball that will be held the day after tomorrow. Other than that, all of the schedules are internal affairs within the palace.”
“So, I can only meet His Highness at the ball.”
“Are you planning to attend?”
“Of course.” Selena replied naturally, as she had something to say to Maximilian.
Lucy’s expression indicated that she had expected that. Meanwhile, the only one who seemed unsettled was Lemon.
“Cough.” Lemon accidentally swallowed the tea and covered his mouth with a handkerchief.
“What’s wrong, Lemon? Are you okay?”
“Ah… Yes. I apologize.”
“No worries. Take your time.”
“…Yes.” Lemon’s gaze trembled slightly. However, Selena and Lucy didn’t notice because he had lowered his head. The two continued their conversation, diverting their attention away from Lemon.
“Do you have an invitation?”
“Luckily, I received one from Sir Dixon.”
“Great, let’s prepare a dress then.”
That was how Selena’s decision to attend the royal ball was made.
