The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Arlenrose often wondered why the king had not beheaded her as well at that time. Even a cold-hearted person with no blood or tears should not have been able to kill their own child, right?
If she had died then, she would have been at peace, and she would have lived a more comfortable life than she did now.
“….”
Neither of them spoke anymore. Rebecca did not like to converse with her Omega child, so Arlenrose simply waited in silence for the time to pass.
There was only one reason why Rebecca, who despised Arlenrose, met with her once a week. It was to prevent the secret she had concealed because of her wish for a good relationship between mother and daughter from being revealed.
Arlenrose Vi Fleurose was already known as a recessive Alpha, and her qualifications as a royal were being questioned. If rumors spread that the king also hated her, the nobles would only become more vocal. So Rebecca wanted to show that she had at least a modicum of affection for her princess.
And so, the method she had chosen was this weekly audience, held every Wednesday.
There was no need for much conversation, and all she had to do was keep her mouth shut, but for Arlenrose, simply having to face her mother who hated her was an unbearable ordeal.
Was it about time for her to be dismissed?
Arlenrose glanced up and met Rebecca’s gaze. The sapphire eyes behind the emotionless glass mask rippled gently.
As the surprised Arlenrose lowered her head, Rebecca spoke.
“…Normally, I would tell you to leave now.”
Rebecca’s hand moved slowly, pointing to something.
“But there is a guest waiting to see you.”
Arlenrose followed her hand with her gaze and froze. It was because she had noticed who had entered the room.
Honey blonde hair, as if gilded with gold, caught the light and captivated her gaze. Beneath it, familiar blue eyes smiled gently.
“Greetings, Princess Arlenrose vi Fleurose of the Fleurose Kingdom.”
His right arm rose elegantly in a royal greeting, the gesture a far cry from the one he had given her at their previous meeting.
Arlenrose barely stifled the urge to gasp.
“Crown Prince Leybid de Valenti Luversiana of the Luversiana Empire.”
Ray Luciana, the brash, irreverent, and arrogant libertine of last night, stood before her transformed into a prince who seemed to have stepped out of a portrait.
“Ah.”
This was not the time to be caught gaping. Arlenrose gave a small curtsey, then rose and bowed low.
“My apologies for the delay in greeting Your Highness. I was taken by surprise at this unexpected encounter. I am Arlenrose vi Fleurose, Princess of Fleurose. It is an honor to meet you, the Empire’s Little Sun.”
Her words were smooth, revealing no hint of her earlier surprise had she not been closely observed. Leybid’s gaze lingered on Arlenrose’s face, a hint of a smile playing on his perfect lips.
“The pleasure is all mine, Princess, Little Star of your kingdom. I must apologize for my sudden and unceremonious appearance, but I hope you will forgive my intrusion.”
“Not at all, Your Highness. How could I possibly find your presence intrusive?”
“My, Your Highness is as quick-witted as she is beautiful.”
The low, rumbling chuckle sent a shiver down her spine. Leybid’s eyes seemed to gleam with amusement as Arlenrose struggled to maintain her polite smile. Rebecca, who had been observing the pair, spoke up.
“His Highness, the Crown Prince, arrived early this morning in secret to prepare for the peace treaty. He had heard that there was a royal of his own age here in my court and was most eager to meet you. There was no suitable way to arrange a formal meeting, so we have taken the liberty of creating this opportunity.”
“…I see.”
“I realize this is rather sudden, but we hope you will understand.”
“Not at all. It is an honor that His Highness would wish to see me.”
“Indeed.”
The inscrutable sapphire eyes regarded his carefully composed daughter for a moment before the king rose from his seat.
“I will leave you young ones to get better acquainted while I, an old woman, would step aside.”
