The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 124
Chapter 124
“Shouldn’t true love be content with simply being together, even without intimacy?”
Frustrated by her stubbornness, Leybid pounded his chest. “How is that possible? I’m an Alpha, and you’re an Omega. Are you suggesting we take pheromone suppressants and endure it? Why should we go through such hardship?”
“It’s just a hypothetical example, not a literal suggestion.”
“Then why bring up such a dreadful example in the first place?”
“If it seems so dreadful, then your true feelings aren’t unrelated to the physical.”
“Ha…” Defeated by her unwavering words, Leybid closed his eyes, his gaze swirling in confusion. “Fine. I admit it. It’s not entirely unrelated. Half… no, maybe a quarter of it has something to do with it.”
“So, after you’ve savored it a thousand times and grown tired of it, at least a quarter of your true feelings will disappear as well.”
“….”
Leybid looked at Arlenrose with a heartbroken expression. Was this what it felt like after a confession? The more he spoke, the deeper he seemed to sink into quicksand.
“No, that’s not right. Let’s stop calculating this so coldly. Human emotions aren’t like that. Sure, I initially approached you with only your body in mind. I’ll admit that. But it’s different now. You’ve become someone I genuinely like, regardless of the physical aspect. Intimacy with someone you like can’t possibly become tiresome.”
Leybid forced a smile as he spoke, emphasizing each word, desperately hoping it would convey some measure of sincerity to Arlenrose.
“Oh… intimacy with someone you like doesn’t become tiresome?”
As if his efforts had finally paid off, Arlenrose nodded for the first time. Leybid, relieved, eagerly nodded along. “Yes, yes. Exactly.”
“How can you be so sure? You’ve never truly liked anyone before, have you?”
“….” Her casually delivered words instantly shattered his smile. What followed completely robbed him of the will to smile again. “Even if that were true, Your Majesty, you might still seek other flavors despite having someone you truly like. You are, after all, quite the notorious libertine.”
“….”
Leybid blinked at Arlenrose, then lowered his head. A solid, impenetrable wall of distrust stood between them. Arlenrose had built it, but its foundation was none other than Leybid himself. Every word and action he had taken had contributed to its construction, adding to its density.
So, who could he blame?
“What… what do I have to do to make you believe me?” Leybid mumbled weakly. Arlenrose’s eyes widened. Then, to his surprise, a gentle smile graced her lips. “Don’t do anything, Your Majesty. No matter what you do, I will never believe you.”
That smile made her words all the more cruel. Leybid’s voice grew even weaker. “Then… you won’t accept my proposal?”
“I’ll consider it.”
“…!” Startled by the unexpected answer, Leybid abruptly lifted his head. “You don’t believe my sincerity, yet you’ll consider my proposal? How is that possible?”
At Leybid’s question, Arlenrose tilted her head, as if she were the one confused. “Your Majesty proposed marriage on a whim, but it presents me with another option, so I’ll consider it. Is there a problem with that?”
“An option?”
“Yes. The Empire’s marriage system is monogamous, so you’re offering me the position of Empress. That’s certainly worth considering, isn’t it?”
“….” Leybid stared blankly at Arlenrose, as if he’d forgotten how to blink. He hadn’t anticipated this at all. He’d only envisioned two scenarios: Arlenrose believing his sincerity and accepting his proposal, or not believing him and rejecting it.
The Princess of Fleurose, Arlenrose Vi Fleurose, who had always delighted him with her unexpected reactions. She had defied his expectations once again. Arlenrose was someone capable of considering marriage as a means to an end, even without believing in the other person’s sincerity.
