The Male Lead’s Sickly Aide is My Type - Chapter 91.1
Chapter 91.1
Upon waking this morning, Archen remained slumbering.
Deciding to let him sleep in, Carinne quietly rose from the bed without disturbing him. She then proceeded to lightly clean the room, just enough not to wake him up. While one might think cleaning was a maid’s job, she often took the time to do it herself.
Even as a noblewoman, she believed that knowing how to clean one’s own room was essential.
Thus, she dusted the vanity, changed the water in the vase on the glass table, and even arranged the dolls on the shelf in order of size.
As she did so, she inadvertently left a bear doll on the bed.
Returning to the room after breakfast to change into her outdoor clothes, she noticed an empty space on the shelf where the ribbon-tied bear doll had been.
“Where did I put the bear doll?”
She thought, searching high and low.
She looked on the shelf, between the bookshelves, and even went to the dining room, wondering if she had taken it with her for breakfast. She even called Marie and had the maids search but to no avail. The bear doll had vanished without a trace.
It wasn’t as if the doll had legs and could walk away; it had to be somewhere in the house. As she gave up on the search, Carinne sat on the bed and looked at Archen, hoping to relieve her fatigue by gazing at his handsome face… and there it was, the bear doll.
More precisely, it was in Archen’s arms. He was fast asleep, clutching the doll tightly with a blissful smile on his face.
It was adorable.
After declaring to the maids that she had found the bear doll, Carinne left the room, making sure not to wake Archen.
* * *
“No.”
Archen insisted, denying it to the end, but Carinne was certain.
“It’s true. It looks like the bear doll’s nose is imprinted on your cheek.”
“Absolutely not. Why would I be holding a bear doll in the first place? I’m not a child.”
Denials were futile. There was a round mark from the bear doll’s nose on his cheek.
“I saw you sleeping with it in your arms.”
“….”
“You seemed very happy.”
“….”
“Oh, and Marie saw it as well. Should I call her in to tell you?”
“….”
Finally, he confessed. The evidence was close at hand as he retrieved the bear doll from under the covers where he had hastily hidden it upon seeing her return. Carinne chuckled and placed the bear doll back on the shelf.
With a sullen expression, Archen muttered.
“I thought it was the Princess…”
He was a little too cute.
“Are you feeling alright?”
“I feel refreshed after a good night’s sleep, but where did you go this morning?”
“A meeting. Nothing special. It was decided that the rift was accidentally opened…”
There was one more thing that happened. The King and the nobles discussed how the rift was closed as the final agenda item. When the King asked who the court mage who closed the rift was, Carinne replied that it was not a court mage but her aide who closed the rift.
When asked who that was, she also said it was Archenas.
“It’s the first time I’ve heard that name. Who is he, and from which family?”
She truthfully replied that he didn’t have a title.
“Even if he doesn’t have a title, his parents must have one.”
Carinne revealed his identity, and the King looked surprised. And that was it.
The King nodded and declared that the meeting was adjourned.
Neither the King nor the nobles mentioned any reward to be given to Archen, typical of a society obsessed with status. If Duke Tricia had been present at the meeting, she would have nudged him to bring up the matter of Archen’s reward.
She could have spoken up herself, but she was just a princess acting as the duke’s proxy. As for preventing the crown prince’s entry earlier, it was purely a matter of luck.
Although she had made thorough preparations, the nobles would not have liked her to step out of line without authorization. If she did it once or twice, it would be fine, but if it became a habit, it would surely provoke their backlash.
She could only clench her teeth and remain silent.
“Weren’t there any other agenda items?”
“There were, but nothing major. I’ll show you the meeting minutes later if you’re curious.”
In any case, with the conclusion being what it was, it wasn’t good news for Archen. Carinne gave a vague response.
“My lady, everything is ready!
Just then, Marie opened the door, and Carinne clapped her hands.
“Ah, that’s right! Come this way quickly!”
There was something she had instructed them to prepare once Archen woke up. Taking Archen’s hand, Carinne dashed down the stairs and sat him down on the sofa in the reception room.
Sitting on the sofa, he looked around the table with a bewildered expression.
“What is all this?”
He had every right to be confused. The table was overflowing with colorful bottles and bowls, all filled to the brim.
“It’s good for your health.”
Healthy things were expensive, and they were also incredibly difficult to find. Having gone through the trouble of acquiring them, Archen had to eat everything that was there. It seemed a bit much to eat all at once, but… that wasn’t Carinne’s concern.
Carinne picked up one of the lined-up bottles and brought it to Archen’s mouth.
