The Male Lead’s Sickly Aide is My Type - Chapter 110.2
Chapter 110.2
[ The prominent figure and his lover had a secret meeting in the palace gardens. Witnesses say they looked very much in love, and the prominent figure serenaded his lover and presented her with a handmade bouquet. They sat before the statue of the Saint holding a water jug and spent a blissful afternoon. ]
He’d initially disregarded these articles, but after a few more, the narrative veered into pure fiction.
[ The prominent figure gifted his lover a castle in his territory. Originally his, the castle was renovated to her taste. The garden bloomed with roses, and the rooms were adorned with lace curtains. The castle was transformed into a charming abode fit for a forest princess. Furthermore, the prominent figure transferred a portion of his territory to his lover’s name, for which she expressed immense gratitude. ]
[ The prominent figure and his lover attended a ball. The prominent figure’s lover took his hand and twirled. Her dress swirled, illuminating the ballroom. The prominent figure reportedly whispered with joy, ‘If I had to choose the happiest day of my life, it would be today.’ Bathed in the chandelier’s light, they danced hand in hand for a long time. ]
Not only were there flowery descriptions, but now there was dialogue. The gazette was subtly crossing the line from news to fiction. Someone else was playing his game.
Annoyed, Giles continued reading, his breath coming in short bursts.
[ He bought the most precious diamond from the jeweler and entrusted it to a ring maker. ‘How happy she will be to receive this ring.’ He couldn’t contain his trembling heart. The proposal date is set for the end of this month, at the ball held at the palace. Confessing his love before all the nobles in the capital is no easy task. However, he had made up his mind and was ready to give her everything. ]
A proposal? As if that wasn’t absurd enough, what followed was even more outrageous.
[ In a private room of a luxurious cafeteria, an old woman and a young woman sat facing each other. ‘I want you to break up with my son.’ The sharp voice belonged to none other than the prominent figure’s mother. She placed a pouch of gold coins on the table with a thud. ‘I’ve given you a generous sum. So leave the capital.’ ‘I can’t do that.’ The prominent figure’s lover pushed the pouch back. ‘I love him.’ ‘I’ll give you more if you need it. Here, take it.’ ‘I can’t accept anything. I’ve already promised to spend my life with him. Nothing can change my feelings for him.’ ‘You ungrateful child! You’re not good enough for my son!’ The old woman picked up a glass of water and splashed it in her face. The prominent figure’s lover left the cafeteria in tears. In the alleyway, she saw her fiancé kissing another woman.

Giles threw the gazette on the floor. He was beyond furious.
“I proposed to the Princess? And I had a mistress, got dumped by the Princess, and lost all my money?”
While he was supposedly destitute, the Princess was thriving, having inherited the dukedom.
“What in the…!”
The scene at the ballroom finally made sense.
It wouldn’t matter how many times he told people he was courting the Princess; they would all think he was joking. His plan to discredit her had completely backfired. He’d been hoisted by his own petard.
Giles raged, unable to contain his anger.
“This is preposterous! Who spread these lies?”
He paced, then stopped, clutching his head in thought. His eyes flashed as he arrived at a conclusion.
“It’s the Princess. She’s getting revenge. Summon the elders! She’ll answer for this.”
His aide remained silent, his expression grim.
Giles glared at the crumpled gazette.
“She’s like a spiteful cat. We’ll see who has the last laugh.”
With that, he dismissed his aide.
The aide closed the door behind him and shook his head. As Giles had said, only time would tell who would have the last laugh.
