The Male Lead’s Sickly Aide is My Type - Chapter 106.1
Chapter 106.1
“What did you say?”
“Me? Did you mean me?”
She realized too late what she’d said, the words already hanging in the air. The man turned, his gaze filled with suspicion.
“Yes, you. I believe you just called me crazy.”
“I did no such thing.”
Carinne feigned innocence.
“I didn’t say a word.”
“Strange. I could have sworn I heard it. Perhaps you could enlighten me then? Do you happen to know who the most beautiful woman in the world is?”
He had the audacity to pump her for information.
Despite his brazen attitude, a particular person immediately sprang to mind. The most beautiful woman Carinne knew. A delicate young lady with long, black hair and violet eyes.
Knowing her, however, and telling this lunatic about her were two entirely different matters. Even if he offered her a hundred wishes, she’d hesitate. And he expected her to tell him for free? To a complete stranger?
Preposterous.
“I don’t know. And even if I did, I wouldn’t tell you.”
“Why not?”
“I’d feel sorry for her.”
Carinne grimaced, picturing Iris with this man.
He chuckled, a sound that grated on her nerves. He agreed with her and then laughed?
“If you’re quite finished, please excuse me.”
Carinne abruptly ended the conversation.
At the information guild’s reception desk, she wrote down the details she needed and handed the slip of paper to the clerk. The clerk asked her to wait and returned a few minutes later.
“I apologize, but we don’t have the information you’re looking for.”
Carinne simply nodded and turned away. Her only hope now lay with the information guild Archen had gone to.
As she left, she felt a presence behind her. Turning, she saw the man following her. The same crazy man from earlier.
“What do you want?”
Carinne snapped, remembering a similar, unpleasant experience with Giles.
“I think you know something. Why not share?”
He was persistent, true to his crazy nature.
‘Let’s get a good look at him then.’
Carinne scrutinized him from head to toe.
With his auburn ponytail and green eyes, he was the very picture of a womanizer. His prominent brow and straight nose were strikingly Western, and his smooth manner suggested he’d broken a few hearts.
Despite her unfavorable first impression, she couldn’t deny his physique. Broad shoulders, bronzed skin, and tall. Over his well-proportioned frame, he wore a brown coat with gold buttons. The crest suggested it was a uniform.
A soldier? Still crazy, though.
“I’m not interested. Go away.”
“Come now. I saw you hesitate earlier. You clearly thought of someone.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Despite his apparent madness, he was observant. Carinne quelled her unease and maintained her facade of ignorance.
Just then, Archen’s voice cut through the air.
“What’s going on here?”
His carriage, having already returned from the other information guild, approached from the opposite direction. He jumped down and stepped between Carinne and the man.
She seized the opportunity.
“This man keeps following me! I told him to leave me alone!”
“Now, why would you lie like that?”
The man scratched his head, feigning innocence. Arken stood firm.
“Step aside.”
Though slender, Archen was quite tall. The man clicked his tongue, looked Archen up and down, then backed away.
“Alright, alright. Your husband clearly cares for you very much.”
Archen froze, looking as startled as a thief caught red-handed. The tips of his ears seemed to redden.
Exasperated, Carinne nudged him.
“What are you doing?”
“Do I… look like her husband?”
“Aren’t you newlyweds? You two look great together.”
The man replied easily. Whether he was being deliberately obtuse or genuinely clueless, he was undeniably sly.
“I’ll ask you one last time. Do you really not know?”
“Why don’t you look for her yourself?”
“I wouldn’t be asking if I hadn’t already tried. Anyway, perhaps our paths will cross again.”
The man brought his index and middle fingers to his forehead in a salute. Carinne thought she heard him murmur, “Adios.”
“What a strange man.”
Requesting the information guild to find the most beautiful woman in the world, then pestering strangers for information. She’d likely never encounter anyone like him again.
Grumbling, Carinne linked arms with Archen.
“Don’t you think?”
