Emperor Claude continued.
“This was brought from the Rafal Tower by the First Emperor, Dantes Arpend. Originally, something very important was inside.”
Emperor Claude grimaced and shook his head.
“That was stolen a few years ago. Anyway, even though we lost its content, we were able to research this magical device. We had thought it was just a storage unit, but it wasn’t.”
Pointing at the device with his ring-clad hand, the emperor motioned.
“Go inside.”
Radis replied.
“First, please release my teacher’s Geas.”
The emperor let out a hoarse laugh.
“Lady Tilrod, I am the Emperor of Cardia. Do you understand what that means? I am someone who can buy a castle with a single gold coin. Need more explanation? Let me put it another way. If I offer a chick to any king of a country, asking to exchange it for his queen, he should kneel and agree. I have that power. Do you understand now?”
Although verbose, it seemed to mean he could do whatever he wanted.
Radis sighed and nodded.
“Just make sure to keep your promise.”
A cynical smile appeared on the emperor’s lips.
“Good girl.”
Dodging the emperor’s attempt to pat her head, Radis thought.
‘What exactly did the teacher see in this vile emperor to receive not one, but two Geas?’
With a resigned attitude, she first put her head into the Womb’s barrier.
The barrier immediately engulfed her.
Inside the barrier, Radis held her breath and blinked.
Air and water, or something in between, filled the barrier, forming a mushy substance.
‘What is this?’
As she opened her mouth to try and speak, a large bubble of air escaped, and the mushy substance rushed in.
“Ugh…”
Radis’s eyes snapped open in discomfort.
But, oddly, she didn’t feel suffocated.
‘No need to breathe…?’
She felt like a fish caught in a strong current, unable to move her body as she wished.
The sludge-like substance inside the barrier seemed to nullify all resistance.
Attempting to do something, she gathered her mana.
The flow within the barrier intensified, spinning her around.
‘Why is this happening?’
Instead of her voice, bubbles escaped her mouth as she spoke.
The emperor’s face, peering into the barrier, multiplied into dozens of reflections.
Large and small faces of the emperor simultaneously flapped their mouths.
“Good. Bring the magic stone.”
The emperor’s face shrank to a dot.
“Lady Tilrod, are you still conscious? Astonishing! Others lost consciousness as soon as they entered the barrier.”
The emperor’s booming voice echoed as he climbed the steps around the hexagon to reach the top of the Womb.
“Since you seem conscious, let me explain. This magical device injects the mana from magic stones into a person’s body to create a Geas.”
At the emperor’s explanation, Radis widened her eyes in shock.
“Wu—bu…?”
She tried to voice out her confusion, yet nothing but bubbles left her mouth.
“Ahahaha! Surprised, aren’t you? According to records, this device was created by divine beings long ago. They needed powerful warriors to fight the hundred-year monsters and created this device to make them. However, Lady Tilrod, such tremendous power requires restrictions.”
A servant brought a large box filled with magic stones.
“I’ve named it ‘Geas’.”
Emperor Claude showed her a clock-like device connected to the Womb.
“Do you see what this is? It’s a device that automatically calculates the amount of mana needed to operate the magical device. Isn’t it chilling to think it might have been made hundreds of years ago?”
Radis’s eyes widened.
“Ubb…!”
She vigorously shook her head, trying to say, ‘Don’t do it!’
‘But I absorb mana from magic stones…! What will happen after this?!’
The emperor laughed.
“It’s too late to be afraid now!”
The emperor was seen dropping a handful of mana stones into the Womb.
Radis shouted, ‘Listen to me!’
Instead, the last bubble popped with a, “Ubb! Uubb!!”
The transparent substance enveloping her shone brightly.
Soon, the light engulfed her.
* * *
“Hooh.”
Standing atop the Womb, the emperor looked into the mana calculation device with an expression of amazement.
“Impressive. Despite adding quite a lot of magic stones, the needle hasn’t budged. Even when I placed a Geas on Sir Carnot, it wasn’t to this extent. Truly, a promising talent. Bring another magic stone vault.”
