The Eldest Daughter Walks Down The Flower Path - Chapter 211
Chapter 211

The ‘trial’ he spoke of referred to the ‘Trial of Incandescence’, a procedure to verify the skills of a master candidate.
Many a magus-swordsman would attempt to earn the master’s seal within a year, yet only a few would pass the trial, sometimes only once in several years.
“I’ve roughly prepared the necessary items.”
In a way, he’s roughly saying that he’d perfectly prepared for everything already.
From the necessary items for the ceremony, to the greatsword forged of mana-reinforced steel, and even new armor, everything was ready.
Robert, with a look of surprise, examined the items, his gaze lingering on the sword.
He drew the new blade, slowly running his palm along the blade.
“What a fine sword,” Radis exclaimed in awe.
“…Indeed,” Robert agreed.
Then, Yves replied in a calm tone.
“Inspect them, and if there’s anything more you need, let me know.”
Robert eyed Yves curiously. This crow-like marquis, just a year his senior, seemed unexpectedly attentive to others, though his true intentions were unknowable.
But it would be ludicrous to harbor resentment towards him after receiving so much.
Robert bowed politely to Yves Russell.
“Your Excellency, I shall not forget this kindness.”
“Enough of that. Just check them,” Yves said as Robert moved to inspect the items.
It was then, as he approached the boxes, that the parlor door opened, and servants began to bring in more boxes.
Startled, Radis asked.
“Is there more? Is the trial process so lengthy?”
Until that moment, Yves Russell had been visibly bored, lounging in his seat. Suddenly, he stood up.
“No, these are for you, Radis.”
“For me?”
“While ordering Sir Robert’s items, I also bought some for you.”
Yves answered in a somewhat subdued voice.
“I thought you might be coming to the capital more often… so you’ll need dresses, clothes, and these items…”
Radis gazed at the boxes piling up like a mountain before her with bewildered eyes.
“It seems like more than just buying together on a whim, doesn’t it?”
Out of the boxes poured luxuries Radis could not possibly use up in a lifetime.
Summer lace gloves, thin leather gloves for spring and autumn, winter gloves lined with fur, several pairs of woolen riding gloves…
Thin silk shirts, thick woolen shirts, both fitted and loose trousers, and sleek leather pants.
Velvet vests in various colors, luxurious coats, and capes…
Each of these items bore the marquisate’s seal somewhere on them.
Even the dainty lace gloves, their buttons engraved with a shield-shaped seal.
Yves watched numbly as about thirty boxes of dresses entered the drawing room.
“I shop when I’m sad…” he said.
Radis, looking tiredly at the boxes, turned her attention to Yves.
Lately, Yves had been acting strangely.
It was Radis who was disturbed by Olivier’s confession, but it seemed like something was also troubling Yves.
He was being unusually quiet. Radis would often find him curled up in a corner, and sometimes, he’d suddenly become sullen, clamping his mouth shut as if upset.
Whenever she felt his gaze on her, she would turn to find him, his large frame poorly concealed, staring blankly at her.
Radis cautiously spoke to him.
“Marquis, why were you sad? Is something wrong?”
At her question, Yves stared piercingly at her.
Was it her imagination, or did his gaze, peering through his curly black bangs, seem accusing?
After glaring at her, Yves abruptly turned his head and muttered back.
“…Don’t worry about it.”
Radis realized.
‘There really is something wrong…!’
As she approached him, Radis soothingly spoke again.
“Marquis, how can I not worry when you say that?”
Robert, who had been watching the interaction between the eloquent Yves Russell and the captivated Radis with calm eyes, called out to her.
“Radis.”
“Yes?”
“Before the ceremony, there’s a verification of mana purity at the grand temple, you know that?”
Radis turned to face Robert.
“Ah, I heard about that procedure.”
She covered her mouth with her hand, deep in thought for a moment, then rushed to Robert and whispered in his ear.
“Being returned from the past, even the grand temple wouldn’t be able to detect that, right?”
Robert nodded.
“I was concerned about that too, so I asked Sir Ardon in detail. Fortunately, the verification isn’t that detailed. In the past, some used magical artifacts, drugs, or forbidden spells to increase their mana before trials. The verification is meant to weed out such people.”
