While examining the item, Olivier held the back of Radis’s hand that was holding the golem core.
“Fascinating. This is the first time I’m seeing one in person.”
“Can you read what’s written here, Lord Olivier?”
“Yes.”
Olivier’s eyes curved as he smiled charmingly.
“You’re lucky. The people who can understand the ancient language comprise only the top one percent of the Empire, and that includes me.”
Olivier added that last part in a casual tone.
“Of course, it’s not because it’s difficult. It’s only because not everyone has the means to learn it.”
After saying this, Olivier took the golem core from Radis’s hand and put together the two split halves.
Looking closely at the surface of the core, which had now become one again, Olivier slowly opened his mouth.
And what left through his lips was, well, a sound that was reminiscent of a whistle.
”▯▯▯▯▯▯.”
“……?”
Olivier glanced at Radis and spoke again.
“That’s what it says. In translation… ‘Protect this land.’ That’s about it.”
“I see…”
Radis nodded, but then her expression changed at once.
“Lord Olivier, your complexion… You’ve become so pale!”
“I guess it’s because I suddenly used mana.”
As he became as pale as a sheet, Olivier simply smiled.
“I’m studying magic because I’m interested in it, but because my mana reserve is as meager as it is, this happens whenever I try to use it even a little.”
Olivier rubbed his eyes with one hand.
Seeing him in this state, Radis panicked.
“I, I’m so sorry! I didn’t know that mana is required to translate the text…!”
Olivier winced slightly.
“Would it be alright if I lie down for a moment? My vision is spinning…”
“O-Of course! Please lie down here!”
Radis tried to get up to empty the sofa.
But before Radis could rise to her feet, Olivier laid down and rested his head on her lap. Olivier looked up at her and smiled brightly.
“Thank you.”
Radis’s face went utterly red.
Suddenly feeling warm, it’s as if steam had shot up from her nape and to the tips of her ears.
She didn’t need to look into a mirror to know just how red her face had gotten.
Having an entirely flushed face was truly embarrassing, but it was something that she could neither stop nor hide. Radis could do nothing but turn her head away and take a deep breath to calm herself.
As he watched her like this, Olivier’s smile broadened.
Later, he closed his eyes so that the dizziness he was feeling would be soothed.
He had exaggerated a bit earlier, but it wasn’t a lie that he was feeling nauseous.
It was as though he was lying down at the base of a towering, beautiful tree, embraced gently by its protruding roots. It was so comfortable.
If he were to fall asleep like this, he might be able to drift off into a deep slumber with nary a dream in sight.
With a slightly roughened breath, he inhaled slowly.
The scent that he took in was sweet. Like roses, or summer fruits.
Perhaps it was the smell of perfume that’s been left on the hem of her dress.
His keen sense of smell singled out the scent of that perfume.
One by one, he identified each note. The smell of greenery, of the soft earthen soil, of flower stems that had just been plucked. Even the warm fragrance of her supple skin.
He calmed down so languidly, but at the same time, Radis felt more and more restless.
She continued sitting upright, increasingly finding it difficult to breathe to the point that she felt her heart vibrating in her chest.
He felt each one of her reactions, but Olivier decided to turn a blind eye to this. He considered it quite fun to see just how affected she was by him, but as he was starting to think of stopping here…
He was about to sit up again, but the door of the drawing room burst open.
“Radis?”
Hearing the voice of that meddling crow, Radis flinched greatly.
Letting out a faint sigh, Olivier slowly raised his torso and sat up, tidying his disheveled attire.
This tactless, unobservant crow… Rather, Marquis Russell.
Never mind checking who’s inside the drawing room first, he went ahead and walked through the doors without announcing himself first.
Olivier was forced to look behind him to greet the man.
“Marquis Russell.”
“…Your Highness the Third Prince. Here you are.”
“I’m taking a break because I wasn’t feeling well for a moment.”
At that point, rather than leaving, Marquis Russell closed the door of the drawing room behind him and went further inside.
“Good heavens, you must be feeling motion sick from traveling through the warp gate.”
Olivier loathed to hear this man’s ensuing words.
It’s not as if this man was a completely dithering fool.
But instead of refuting the marquis’s remarks, Olivier slumped back onto his seat next to Radis languidly.
And with this motion, he clearly saw Marquis Russell flinch at the sight.
As he had been standing there for a while now, Yves opened his lips to speak.
“You seem to have grown close in a short time.”
And with eyes as clear as glass, Olivier answered.
“Shouldn’t a certain someone be overjoyed about that?”
