Savage Forest - Chapter 131.1
“It can’t be…”
Avisak’s face twisted in disbelief.
‘The bloodline of the Daughter of the Forest must have been broken long ago…!’
She had studied the existence of the giant monster more deeply than anyone else.
She believed she had uncovered the truth.
…However, it was arrogance.
She thought she knew the flaws in the legends surrounding the Daughter of Nature better than anyone.
That there was nothing to fear.
That arrogance ultimately led Avisak to ruin.
Avisak was, after all, an outsider. Being from Perugia, there was no way she could have known the fact that the bond between the giant monster and the Daughter of Nature could be renewed through blood.
‘I thought it was impossible! I was sure it would fail…!’
Avisak was thrown into confusion as the fear felt like her mind was about to collapse. She had never once seen the ruler of the forest with her own eyes. The overwhelming presence of the giant monster, when actually witnessed, was immense.
It was almost unbearable for a human to endure.
Yaru was no different.
Yaru’s eyes tracked the movement of the massive monster. Her mouth hung open, not knowing when to close.
Hrrrrrr.
Then, a deep, low breath escaped the skull spider’s mouth.
Even though the sound was faint, it was enough to terrify her. Startled, Avisak flailed backward, stumbling.
“Ah, aaahh! Do, don’t touch me! Aaagh!”
In the end, her struggling body fell from the tree.
At that moment, the rushing water engulfed her body.
No one at the scene moved.
Avisak floundered, drowning herself into the river.
“Huhp, huhk…! Aaagh, huhp!”
Soon, Avisak was swept away, her body vanishing into the current.
Enya’s expression, perched atop the skull spider, remained unchanged even then. The skull spider, too, paid no attention to Avisak. The eight eyes of the giant monster had been fixed on Yaru for some time.
Yaru’s limbs began to tremble. No, her entire body was shaking like a leaf in the wind.
‘I’m scared…!’
She wasn’t sure if the connection between Enya and the skull spider had been fully established yet. Nervana had been without any contact with the skull spider for many years.
When Eireke was alive, Yaru had been a young girl. She didn’t know how the skull spider interacted with the Daughter of the Forest. It wasn’t just ignorance that caused her fear. The monster was enormous, the size of a house.
Facing the skull spider’s eight eyes triggered a primal instinct in humans. It was a terror beyond measure.
Soon, a web began to spew from the skull spider’s mouth.
‘…Is this the end?’
Yaru squeezed her eyes shut.
In the next moment, her body was slowly lifted. The web, like a net, gently enveloped Yaru’s body. She had no time to struggle. It was as though she was being rescued from drowning as her body was slowly lifted into the air.
She finally stopped in front of the skull spider’s eight eyes.
Yaru was completely stunned. She looked at Enya and the skull spider. It felt as though everything about her was laid bare before the protector of the forest.
‘Is this what it feels like to stand before a god?’
Even though she was the mighty Yaru, she had never been so close to the skull spider before. Enya’s expression remained hidden, obscured by the sunlight.
The omnipotent ruler.
To Yaru, Enya seemed like a true God.
At that moment, Enya, who had been watching Yaru in stunned silence, opened her mouth. Her voice echoed in Yaru’s mind, resonating like a powerful reverberation.
“Yaru…!”
It was the moment when God became human.
“Are you alright, Yaru…?”
It was the moment when the Daughter of the Forest became Yaru’s ally.
Yaru gasped for breath. She couldn’t even respond properly. It felt like several hours passed in the span of just a few seconds.
Finally, her stiff lips parted.
“En, Enya.”
After hearing Yaru’s response, Enya bit her lip hard.
A sense of relief washed over her.
Since connecting with the skull spider mentally, Enya had been able to feel every movement in the forest as if she were seeing it with her own eyes. This was thanks to the spiderwebs the skull spider had woven across the entire forest.
All the living beings caught in the webs were now connected through the skull spider as a medium. The information gathered by the skull spider’s senses was immediately transmitted to Enya. This allowed her to instantly know where danger was looming in the forest.
The first thing she needed to do was save Yaru and her companions. They were the ones swallowed by the flood caused by the broken dam.
The skull spider’s mobility was almost ridiculously impressive. The massive monster used a pre-established route, allowing it to ‘fly’ through the forest. The thick, dense trees formed a canopy that was intricately embroidered with spiderwebs.
The skull spider used this to swiftly move its giant body through the forest.
It was as if the forest itself was the sky. However, this wasn’t the time to marvel at the skull spider’s incredible mobility.
‘First, let’s save everyone swept away by this flood!’
The skull spider immediately responded to her thoughts.
Thus, Enya and the skull spider began rescuing people. The webs spewing from the skull spider’s mouth slowly began lifting each person from the water, one by one.
Just like with Yaru.
After saving Yaru, the next person Enya discovered was Rigata. He was barely clinging to a log flowing downstream.
When Enya pulled him out, Yaru quickly grabbed his body, checking for a heartbeat. Nihitan, Cugnac, Zechariah, several Aquilea people, Leroi, and Reyhald were also saved thanks to the skull spider’s webbing, sparing them from certain death.
People’s reactions were sharply divided.
Some faced the giant monster with fear and shock, while others greeted the new Daughter of the Forest with awe and joy.
The most intense reaction came from Reyhald.
“En, Enya…?”
Still groggy from waking up, he stared at Enya with bewildered eyes.
His voice was filled with disbelief.
“Yes, Reyhald. Open your eyes wide and see. It’s Enya.”
Yaru, looking at Reyhald, slapped his back as if to bring him back to his senses. Rigata, right after being rescued, mumbled while looking at Enya.
“You look like you’re glowing, Enya.”
He gasped for air and then quickly shut his eyes.
Yaru swiftly laid the exhausted Rigata down in a comfortable position inside the skull spider’s web. Then, Enya faced the next challenge.
‘We need a safe place to move everyone!’
The rains that had been falling for months, the accumulated water, had finally swept through the forest.
The problem was that this flood left no room for their allies either.
