Savage Forest - Chapter 129.2
‘How can it be so stable despite this incredible speed…’
For a moment, Enya stood still, taking in the view. It was an overwhelming experience. She was riding on the skull spider’s back.
A flood of emotions overwhelmed her like water.
The skull spider had finally come to its senses. She had formed a connection with the gigantic monster.
‘I really am the daughter of the forest.’
She had suspected this when the plants of the Nervana Forest responded to her gestures at the forest’s edge, but now, riding on the back of such a massive creature, she truly felt it.
Her heart began to race as if it were about to burst.
It felt like she had no fear left in her. All of a sudden, she remembered Eireke, who was said to be able to communicate with the skull spider. Enya took a deep breath and mentally asked,
‘Where are we going?’
However, the skull spider remained silent.
Perhaps the conversation Eireke had with the spider wasn’t the typical human exchange, but more of a mental and physical connection.
Even now, she felt the emotions of the spider and the view from its eight eyes, as if those sensations were being transferred directly into her mind. She could feel the texture of the billions of tiny muscles in the spider’s legs, the strength and power coming from them. She could sense the spider’s strong mental will too.
Then, a deep, low sound was heard. Enya soon realized it was the sound of the giant monster.
‘Is it telling me to be quiet?’
Enya thought.
The solemn, low sound seemed to be telling her not to make a fuss.
She took another deep breath. Perhaps she had been wrong.
A strange sense of anticipation grew in her. Maybe, after a little more time, she might actually be able to ‘talk’ to the spider.
‘Where are we headed?’
Enya asked again in her mind.
However, this time, the skull spider didn’t respond in any way. Enya gripped the spider’s fur tightly. Focusing her mind, she pulled its vision closer to her own. Finally, she could clearly see the situation in Nervana Forest through the spider’s eight eyes.
‘Is this what it feels like to be an omnipotent god?’
The view was so vast that it almost felt as though she could know everything. Suddenly, she was jolted upright at the sight before her.
‘Wait, that’s…!’
In the brief moment of passing, she thought she saw Silanda and Jahan. However, Enya couldn’t lift herself any further. The spiderwebs that bound her kept her in place.
‘I was sure she was with the Nervana group!’
A sharp pain hit her chest as if she had been struck with a mallet. She wanted to ask the skull spider to take her to where Jahan and Silanda were. But the spider didn’t seem inclined to listen to her now.
‘It definitely wants to take me somewhere…’
Enya decided to wait. Since she wasn’t sure if the connection was fully formed yet, she couldn’t afford to provoke the skull spider.
As she rode on the back of the skull spider, she marveled at the incredible speed.
‘If we can move this fast, even the vast Nervana Forest could be crossed from one end to the other in a day.’
She had no idea how much time had passed, but eventually, Enya began to recognize the path they were taking. The skull spider was heading upstream, climbing against the waterfall’s current. As they passed the large rock, Enya’s heart skipped a beat. She thought she saw a flash of reddish-brown hair.
‘Is Avisak here in the forest…?’
In that brief moment, she saw the group of Yaru, Rigata, and their companions captured beneath the rock.
Enya’s heart dropped. Still, the skull spider continued on its way. The spider, using its two massive legs and six slender legs covered with fine hair, began to nimbly scale a towering rock cliff.
She gripped the spider’s fur tightly.
As they passed the large rock, it seemed that Avisak’s group hadn’t noticed the spider at all.
‘The trees are so densely packed that even with the spider’s huge size, they can’t notice it.’
Finally, they approached the source of the massive waterfall.
Splash!
The skull spider suddenly took an unexpected move and entered the waterfall’s flow.
Enya squinted as water began pouring down over her head.
“Uhp…!”
The skull spider walked through the cascading water without care.
Soon, the falling water lightened.
Enya, drenched, looked around at the dim surroundings.
She realized they had entered the space behind the waterfall. There was a vast, cave-like space behind the waterfall. As she glanced around the dark space, where the occasional glimmer from cave insects lit up the area, the skull spider moved further inside.
She soon spotted something. Among the cold waterfall, almost frozen, something covered in dust was visible.
‘Ah…!’
Enya held her breath.
They were very old eggs.
At that moment, the skull spider let out a gust of wind from its massive mouth as if exhaling a sigh. After showing Enya the eggs, the spider finally sat down as though it had completed its task. Its enormous body slowly touched the ground. The giant creature looked old and weary.
Two of its slender legs rose and began to unravel the spiderwebs around her body. The movements were more delicate than Enya had expected, and she shuddered.
‘It wanted to show me these eggs.’
The skull spider had been communicating with her for this very reason.
‘To show me these eggs…’
The skull spider’s eggs were hidden behind the waterfall. Only now did Enya realize that the spider was also preparing for the next generation.
