Savage Forest - Chapter 127.2
Before Avisak even made her appearance, the desert warriors had already begun to retreat. If it was Kasar, he would most likely be somewhere in Nervana Forest by now.
Nihitan answered.
“He’s the one who said he wouldn’t get too involved in our affairs. His goal was to have Enya meet that woman, Rio.”
Since Enya had fallen off the cliff, there was no longer any reason for them to act together.
The group remained silently bitter.
“Hey, over there! Quiet down. No more chatter.”
One of Avisak’s soldiers warned them.
At that moment, Yaru’s and Avisak’s eyes met.
Avisak looked at the still-bound Yaru, the next female leader of Nervana and glared at her in the rain before a smile naturally formed on her lips.
‘Soon, even the legendary Nervana Forest will belong to Perugia.”
Just then, one of Avisak’s subordinates called her.
“What’s the matter?”
Avisak replied coldly.
“That, that… Lady Avisak, what should we do with this one?”
The subordinate pointed to the man who was lying completely bloodied on the ground.
Avisak grimaced at the sight of Gernan. His almost lifeless form was lying in the rain, motionless.
“Should we treat him?”
“Take him away for now.”
She thought for a moment.
“There will be a time when he’s needed.”
“Lady Avisak!”
Another subordinate approached, reporting that Servia was missing.
“What? She’s gone?”
Avisak bit her lips.
She felt a bit uneasy, but given Servia’s condition earlier, she wasn’t too concerned.
“Should we chase her?”
“…No, leave her.”
Since Servia was in a somewhat delirious state, the chances of her surviving in the forest alone were slim.
Avisak coldly thought to herself.
‘Now it’s Perugia’s time.’
It was finally her era.
‘I still remember when I first came to Aquilea as Tarhan’s bride. It feels like just yesterday…’
Now, not only did she control Aquilea and the allied forces, but she also had Nervana’s forces under her grasp.
‘I’m the true victor.’
Avisak smiled triumphantly.
And as she did, the faces of the Nervana people, watching her, were filled with despair. The sound of a lightning strike and a falling tree echoed from a nearby distance.
* * *
The rain was intensifying.
Enya walked through the downpour, holding her breath.
She didn’t care about the direction; she could feel the forest guiding her, opening the way before her. She knew what awaited her at the end of the path the forest was leading her toward. It was the skull spider.
‘The forest had been showing the direction all this time. Why didn’t I realize it until now?’
She had been too focused on avoiding the skull spider. She was terrified by the monstrous creature.
As she walked, the grass beneath her feet seemed to embrace her steps, the plants gently caressing her ankles with each movement. It wasn’t that she wasn’t afraid of death. But compared to the days she had lived, she had never felt such a powerful desire to survive.
And she had never felt this calm in her life before.
Enya slowly moved forward and stroked her belly. She thought of Tarhan, the father of the child she had left behind.
As she pushed down the natural pain in her heart, she clenched her teeth and forced herself to keep moving. She also remembered Senu’s body, which she had to leave behind. She couldn’t bear to bury his body in the wet ground, so she had to leave it in the cave.
‘I’ll give you a proper burial when I return, Senu…’
She promised him silently in her heart.
With each step she took, the sound of her footsteps was clear in the quiet surroundings.
As she walked, she reflected on her life. She recalled the pain that had filled it. The maggot grandfather who had taught her how to speak. The moments when her adoptive mother had died. The scene of Piache crying and drinking alone next to a deceased patient.
And the baby.
Her first child, to whom she couldn’t do anything. The day everything crumbled. The day the happiness she had finally earned died within her. The child that was buried without her even holding it in her arms.
She had wanted to love that child. She wanted to give the love she had never received.
For Tarhan, too. She wanted to become his true family. She believed that the two of them, becoming three, would grow stronger in the face of life’s trials.
But that dream was shattered far too easily.
Once again, pain.
Pain upon pain upon pain.
That was her life.
A life with nothing left to lose.
A life where speaking of hope felt cruel to herself.
So, a life with no further depth to fall.
Enya slowly passed through the forest, gently touching Nervana’s plants with her fingertips. The forest seemed to resonate with her, with the leaves rustling together, creating a soft, harmonious sound.
Thunder rumbled again, and a nearby lightning strike lit up the sky. The eerie sound of a giant tree falling echoed through the forest and the noise of a creature screeching pierced her ears.
Yet, her expression remained unchanged.
She no longer felt fear. Perhaps it had been that way since the moment she had met Tarhan’s face again in that cave.
Tarhan was the essence of her life. He was her reason for living, and he was proof that she could start over again. Now that she had confirmed he was safely asleep in the cave, Enya felt stronger than anyone.
She thought,
‘Perhaps it’s a blessing to live like this. A life with nothing to lose. With nothing to hold on to.’
And as she finished that thought, something sticky fell from above and landed on her head.
It was a spider’s web.
