Savage Forest - Chapter 119.2
The bitterness in her words made Enya clench her jaw. She knew there were no words she could offer that would comfort Silanda in that moment.
For a while, they sat in silence.
After some time, Enya cautiously asked.
“Oh, have you heard any news about Tarhan…”
Silanda shook her head.
“No, unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything about the father of your child.”
The phrase ‘father of your child’ made Enya momentarily flustered, though she quickly masked her disappointment and glanced toward Fiarca’s group.
The guards had returned, and Fiarca was pretending to remain unconscious. The distance between the tree where Fiarca, Senu, and Jahan were tied up and the spot where Enya and Silanda were sitting was quite far away.
Enya’s eyes widened as she noticed Senu’s limp and weakened state.
‘Senou looks like he’s in really bad shape.’
Even though Jahan was still unconscious, she was less concerned about him than about Senu. His pale complexion and the exposed wounds between his torn bandages made it seem as though he was on the verge of crossing a point of no return.
Silanda appeared to share her thoughts as Enya noticed her nervously biting her nails.
Seeing her like that, Enya gently took her hand and shook her head. Silanda looked at her for a moment, then quickly turned away, her face slightly flushed.
All of a sudden, a commotion broke out.
Both of them instinctively dropped low and held their breath. From below the wide rock they were tied to, loud noises echoed up, followed by the clashing of swords and spears.
Enya’s instincts told her that something was happening.
A battle had begun.
Holding Silanda’s hand, she turned her head toward the source of the noise.
“It’s them! Everyone except for the minimum needed for defense, prepare for battle!”
Gernan’s commanding voice rang out from a distance. Immediately after, soldiers—ones they hadn’t even noticed before—began appearing, leaping down from the large rock below. There were more soldiers than she could have imagined.
‘My goodness… Gernan had this many troops?’
Seeing the overwhelming numbers made Enya feel a deep sense of despair.
Silanda, too, seemed equally disheartened.
The battle below appeared to be slowly creeping toward the rock they were on, but they still couldn’t tell who was fighting Gernan’s men. They had no choice but to watch and wait for more clarity.
Fortunately, Gernan’s soldiers didn’t seem too concerned about Enya and Silanda’s presence.
They knew that, in order to escape, the two women would have to pass through the path where Gernan and his forces were stationed. The soldiers were confident that, unless they threw themselves into the waterfall, the women had no other way out.
Enya tried to keep a low profile while keeping an eye on the unfolding battle below. It was difficult to see clearly with the fading daylight and the few torches scattered around.
“Wait, Enya… that person…!”
Silanda suddenly tapped Enya’s shoulder when she recognized Rigata, whom she had seen only once before. Just as Silanda had said, Rigata was indeed taking on more than ten of Gernan’s men below the wide rock.
Not long after, they also spotted Yaru and Nihitan fighting nearby.
Enya whispered confidently to Silanda.
“It’s them! It’s Yaru and Nihitan.”
“So, they’re on our side?”
Silanda’s voice brimmed with excitement. Though Yaru’s group was vastly outnumbered by Gernan’s forces, they were steadily overpowering them, making their way up toward the large rock.
Enya exchanged a look with Silanda.
‘They’re definitely coming to save us.’
Still, they couldn’t just sit there and wait.
“We need to move Reyhald to a safer spot and free Fiarca, Senu, and Jahan.”
Enya whispered to Silanda.
When Yaru’s group reached the rock, they needed to be ready to escape as quickly as possible. Even though they were outnumbered, Enya had faith in Yaru’s group. Without hesitation, Silanda grabbed Reyhald by the ankle and began dragging him to a safer area, away from the unstable, lightning-scorched tree that looked ready to collapse at any moment.
“I have to admit, for someone who looks so easily frightened, you handle emergencies surprisingly well.”
Silanda muttered at her with a small grin.
Enya scanned the area. It seemed the guards who had been watching them earlier had vanished to join the battle below.
‘We need to move before they return.’
She hurried to help Silanda. By the time they had finished moving Reyhald to a safer spot, Enya whispered.
“Now, let’s free Fiarca and the others.”
As they approached Fiarca, droplets of rain began to fall, making Enya more anxious. She moved faster, knowing they had to act quickly. The wide rock now seemed deserted, with none of Gernan’s soldiers in sight. It appeared that Yaru’s group was holding their own in the battle below.
‘Just a little longer…!’
The darkness was closing in, making it hard to see. The battle could stretch on throughout the night.
Then, a torch flickered into view.
For a brief moment, Enya thought one of their allies had already made it to the rock. She looked up to see who it was. However, the moment she recognized the face holding the torch, she instinctively shoved Silanda aside.
“Kuhk…! Huhk…!“
In an instant, something grabbed Enya by the neck, squeezing hard. She struggled to breathe as the powerful grip tightened.
“I knew it! You insolent w*nch…! I knew you’d try something the moment I took my eyes off you!”
Gernan growled, gripping her throat harder as raindrops extinguished the torch in his hand.
