Chapter 201

Aiden wanted to expose Seo-yoon’s duplicity right then and there, but he remembered the words of his brother and Irene.
They had told him it was okay to reveal he was an Esper, but to keep his powers hidden.
So, keeping their words in mind, Aiden remained silent for a moment before speaking.
“From what I understand, Lady Clausent is…”
As Aiden was about to clear up the misunderstanding, Irene returned with the high priest.
“Lady!”
Lacie had been waiting for Irene all this time, and she couldn’t quite shake off Seo-yoon’s hand. With a hint of desperation to her voice, she called out to Irene.
Seo-yoon’s head turned along with Lacie’s call.
Irene, still slightly dazed, looked at Lacie. She felt as if her recent actions weren’t entirely her own will.
“Lady Closch!”
Hearing Aiden’s pleased voice, Irene smiled and stepped forward.
Just then, a large chandelier hanging from the ceiling made a creaking sound and fell towards her head.
“Lady!”
As Lacie shouted, the falling chandelier froze mid-air. Everyone present was captivated by the miraculous scene and searched for the divine.
Irene looked up and her eyes widened in astonishment.
“Oh, what is happening…”
The priests and paladins, witnessing an Esper’s power firsthand, uttered exclamations of amazement.
“Isn’t this power similar to His Grace the Duke’s…”
“Then, she is…”
“But didn’t the Saintess just say she was a Guide?”
“What is happening here?”
Seo-yoon felt as if her face was burning with embarrassment. It was clear to everyone that the woman she was holding was an Esper, not a Guide.
Seo-yoon’s eyes flitted between Lacie and Irene, and then Lacie gently freed herself from Seo-yoon’s grip and bowed her head before raising it.
“I apologize for not stating this earlier, but I am not a Guide, but an Esper. It seems that you’ve misunderstood, Your Eminence.”
At Lacie’s confirmation, Seo-yoon shouted impulsively.
“That’s impossible!”
Feeling extremely embarrassed, Seo-yoon insisted without thinking.
“So, are you saying the Goddess lied? You’re making a big mistake by doubting the word of Asteras!”
Confused by Seo-yoon’s words, Lacie and the crowd around her began to murmur. Irene was appalled by the scene.
In the past, Seo-yoon was quick to accuse others, and she seemed to be doing the same in this life as well.
Irene stepped next to Lacie and faced Seo-yoon.
“Why should Lady Clausent do that?”
Seeing Irene, the one she so disliked, Seo-yoon felt a surge of anger. She inexplicably detested this woman.
“The Goddess told me. She said this woman is a Guide. But if she’s not, then are you saying that the Goddess is wrong? Is that too hard to understand?”
“What exactly did the Goddess say? Did She say ‘Lacie de Clausent is a Guide’?” Irene asked pointedly.
“What?”
“That’s right. Do you think even the High Priest would have heard such precise words? If so, this world would have been peaceful long ago—if the Goddess would intervene in everything.”
“What exactly are you saying?”
“My point is, perhaps the Goddess wants humans to make their own decisions and find their own way. That’s why She does not show Herself directly.”
“What kind of stupid bull is that? A god is a god. Why would they show themselves? That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever heard.”
“Well… I have a different view. Maybe She could show Herself but chooses not to, hoping humans live well among themselves.”
Seo-yoon burst into laughter at Irene’s words. With a face full of mockery, she said,
“Gods are just gods. They exist because humans believe in them. That’s what turns them into gods.”
The area grew quiet at Seo-yoon’s words. Unaware of her loss in the eyes of those present, she continued.
“I don’t know what you think you know about the Goddess. Have you ever heard Her words? People might think you’re the Saintess, acting like you know everything…”
Seo-yoon spoke bitterly,
“Why don’t you act arrogantly like you did at the palace? Can’t do it here? Good timing. I was looking for you anyway. The Goddess told me to make you my servant. Since you’re here, why don’t you serve me? I was just about to go to the palace, perfect timing.”
Irene responded without batting an eye to Seo-yoon’s words.
“I’m a bit busy for that.”
“What?”
“I can’t leisurely go to the palace like you, Saintess.”
She had been delayed by the strange events, but her intention was only to briefly stop by the temple.
She had made a list of names associated with roses and stars, thinking they might be Guides, and planned to visit them one by one.
