Refusing Your Ex-Husband's Obsession: A Guide - Chapter 181
Chapter 181

The man trembled on his knees, his actions resembling a herbivore despite his predator-like size.
“I…I couldn’t control my strength, and the Lieutenant was teaching me to adjust it… Suddenly, a monster appeared and I was so scared that I exerted all my strength. Yet, he bravely fought the monster to protect me while I was frozen in fear. I’m sorry… it’s all my fault…”
Watching the man press his forehead to the ground again, I felt a sense of déjà vu, recalling David’s words about someone similar to Morgan.
Was this the man he was talking about?
Could it be…?
“Now now, my daughter. Calm down and sit down here.”
Dad gently placed his hand on my shoulder and led me to an armchair. I couldn’t ever feel at ease around someone who dared to harm my family, but at the back of my mind, I couldn’t let go of the suspicion.
“Could that man be a physical-based Esper?”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“Dad, that man… Could he be an Esper similar to Brother Morgan?”
“Esper…?”
Dad’s gaze sharpened, scrutinizing the man whose shoulders shrank under his intense stare.
“Luke, did you suffer from a severe fever before joining the Guard?”
“…How did you know, sir?”
“Aha… I thought he was just strong.”
Dad muttered in regret.
It made sense—his size suggested immense strength. And in a land still unfamiliar with Espers and Guides, it’s likely he didn’t understand his own condition. He was just desperately trying not to harm others.
This led me to wonder. Who was to manage the Espers and Guides? The palace or the temple?
“An Esper? Am I ill?”
Luke looked up, fear evident in his face. Now that I’ve calmed down, I noticed his face was quite bruised.
“When did you experience this fever?”
“…I’m not sure. About four years ago, maybe?”
His answer surprised me.
Surviving four years without any guiding after manifestation was astonishing.
“…You’re lucky to have survived.”
Hearing my murmur, Luke bowed his head to the floor again in deep apology.
“I would gladly sacrifice my life to atone! If I am expelled from the only place that has accepted me, I have nowhere to go!”
His words painted a clear picture of his life—possibly worse scorned than Morgan, isolated by fear and mistrust. Lacie, too, had believed herself cursed.
Standing up, I knelt in front of him to meet his eye level. His pure, clear eyes followed mine. Without explaining, I removed one of my gloves.
Then, I extended my hand to him. His eyes, filled with curiosity, hesitantly reached out to mine. Through our firmly clasped hands, I began guiding him.
Since he had never received any guiding since his manifestation, I gently infused my energy into him, careful not to startle him. My face reflected in his widely dilated pupils.
Gradually increasing the energy, I meticulously scanned his internals before releasing his hand.
“Huu…”
While our compatibility wasn’t as poor as with Morgan, it seemed unlikely that Luke and I would match well, considering the amount of energy I was being forced to expend now.
However, I didn’t feel as drained as the first time I guided Morgan, as if my energy capacity had increased.
Still feeling somewhat drained, I sat down. Luke remained motionless, his eyes and mouth wide open in astonishment.
“Hmm, it’s always fascinating to see.”
Dad murmured, and Mom nodded in agreement. Even Aiden watched with sparkling eyes.
“W-What is this?”
Luke asked, his voice trembling.
I was still irked by the fact that he had caused David’s injuries, but I couldn’t help feeling sympathy for him. So, unlike my initial reaction, I responded calmly.
“You are an Esper, and I am a Guide. What I just gave you was guiding, which is essential for an Esper. It’s natural you didn’t know, having never received it before.”
