Claire tried to resist him for no reason, but the hand that was resting lightly on her back slid up and caressed her nape gently.
Claire unknowingly closed her eyes. However, Erich’s lips did not come down to hers and instead touched the back of her left hand.
The tantalizing sensation made Claire narrow her eyes, causing her to try and catch her breath. Erich slid his lips while supporting her left hand and sucked her ring finger deeply into his mouth.
“Erich.”
He bit the ring finger so painfully that his teeth nicked it.
“Ngh.”
It’s normal to feel pain, but heat lingered where it was. Claire’s fingers flinched. It was her finger that was bitten, but her toes curled up, too.
“This just happened to come today.”
Erich took a little box from the pocket of his robe. And he roughly twisted it open with one hand.
The box must have been made by a craftsman, but the hinges fell off. Before Claire could say that it was a waste, he took out the contents and threw the box to the floor.
“Oh…”
She had already guessed it from the moment he bit her ring finger, but when the real thing came out, exclamation came out without her knowledge.
Erich put the ring onto where teeth marks had been left. Claire stretched out her hand. With sunlight streaming down upon it, the clear diamond refracted that light into five different colors across the terrace.
“You seem to like it.”
“Of course. I asked for it because I wanted it.”
How could she not like it? In her previous life, even if she saved money while working to death, it was something difficult to look at, let alone have.
Erich, Louisa, and even Martha said that this was much too simple for a Duchess’s engagement ring. But for Claire, rather than luxurious jewels that can only be seen at exhibitions, this was the perfect ring she had always dreamed of.
“Other gifts have arrived too. Do you want to go and see them?”
“That sounds fine, but before that.”
Claire flicked her fingers. Erich obediently stooped. She wrapped her arms around his neck and said in a voice mixed with laughter.
“A kiss one more time?”
“So you really like the ring.”
“That’s true.”
Claire giggled, humming to the tune of ‘Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend’.
Erich found her reaction fascinating. There were already several boxes of things more expensive or valuable than this in her safe. He knew that she must be joking.
There was no reason to decline anyway, so he happily leaned over towards her, and soon, a moan leaked from Claire’s throat.
Claire grabbed his wrist as he impulsively grabbed her thigh.
“A kiss shows a good relationship, even to a child.”
“Mmh…”
As expected, it’s better to just give up pretending to be sick. As Erich stood up, he grabbed Claire’s hand and lifted her up.
At a glance, Elliott was still climbing up and down the pirate ship. It seemed like he was going to play that way until he was exhausted.
‘The nanny will take care of him.’
Claire said, lowering her slightly embarrassed eyes.
“I’m tired. I can never last more than a minute up there.”
Erich decided at that moment that she would suffer more after-effects in the next fortnight or so.

“An errand boy sent by Mister Baerbock? I don’t have anything urgent to contact him.”
Katya, the Countess of Schneider, said curiously as she opened the door to her private room, then flinched.
But it didn’t show very much on her face. The maid who followed Katya tilted her head at the fact that she refused to enter the parlor right away, but she didn’t even bother to check the hostess’s expression.
The man who was waiting took off his hat and groaned.
“Mister Baerbock says he has something urgent to tell you about Missus Grace.”
It was a shabby working-class man from all sides. But Katya had to clench her teeth to keep her expression neutral.
“Hey, go fetch me a ham and egg sandwich from the kitchen, will ya?”
“Ah, yes!”
Most people in County Schneider knew that Mister Baerbock was the name of the manager of the opera house. He occasionally visited the Count’s residence when invited.
And Countess Schneider was always generous with the errand runners from the Opera House. It was between lunch and dinner so the kitchen would be resting, but it wasn’t such a strange errand.
When the maid bowed her head and went away, Katya immediately closed the door and walked away. Then she strode towards the man and said in a small voice.
“Thomas, are you crazy? Don’t come here so recklessly, kuhk!”
Before she could finish her words, Thomas grabbed her neck.
He stretched back his hunched spine and shoulders that had been hiding his hulking size. With a look of ferocity over his face, he looked like a completely different person than he had been a moment ago.
Thomas Borjans is the owner of the opera house’s back alley.
“You. You can talk like that after you’ve done your job properly.”
“Ugh…! So, if you threaten me, will it, kgh, work out?”
Katya struggled in suffocation but she was not discouraged. Thomas let go of his hand as she scoffed. Katya, who had been lifted almost to the tip of her toes, collapsed to the floor, gasping for breath.
Thomas looked down at her and said.
“I did your favor and came under the attention of the nobles.”
“Ha. Are you scared? The great, great, Klausener. You, who knows the Police Department is like dogsh*t too.”
“Katya, do you want to die?”
“Is that your fault or mine? Would that have happened if you had properly covered your tracks?”
Katya sat down and glared at Thomas, brushing her disheveled hair all the way. Thomas growled.
“Did I make a mistake?”
“You don’t? All I asked of you was to take care of Nora. If you had not made a mistake, would Klausener have noticed you?”
Katya said harshly.
“Even if they doubt me, it will lead to you. Unless you left clues around Nora, or came to me out of the blue and put me in trouble.”
“F*ck.”
Thomas looked like he wanted to slap her right on the place, but he couldn’t. It would be a problem to leave marks on Katya’s face here, but also because Katya was right.
In fact, it wasn’t because Erich had some kind of evidence that led him to pursue Katya’s old acquaintance. But Thomas did not know this.
