“Really! What are you talking about!”
“Haha.”
Erich laughed out loud.
It was so rare of him to laugh like that, so people looked at him in amazement. Even Claire looked up at him in surprise.
It was a little strange.
Claire didn’t think Erich was naturally cold or less-emotional like the others.
However, he was still a man who had been trained not to show his emotions in this way. Especially in a place like this.
After the laughter died down, a smile came. As though he was looking at something very lovable, like looking at a child who was helplessly cute, he gazed upon her with a tender smile.
“What is it, why are you smiling so strangely?”
“What did I do?”
“You’re smiling right now. If you’re trying to tease me, just stop. I’ve already sold all of them, so I don’t think there’s anything worth losing my dignity.”
“Don’t you think it’s because you’re lovely?”
“One necklace is enough for the cringe-worthy performance.”
Claire tried to turn around. Embarrassed, heat rose to her cheeks.
Before she could finish her words, Erich lowered his head and kissed her cheek. Claire raised her head in surprise.
As soon as she did, his lips came down. Claire panicked and grabbed his arm.
“Hold— on!”
His soft lips left a peck upon hers met between the words she had uttered, barely allowing her to finish the sentence.
“Your eyes are wide open now. Are you drunk? No way?”
Claire was also confident in her drinking capacity, but Erich’s drinking capacity was supposedly far superior to hers. He’d have to drink at least two bottles of whiskey to get his eyes wide open enough.
Erich said in a slow tone.
“Mmh. I’m not drunk. I do believe my judgment is deteriorating, though.”
“This isn’t the time to talk about such things! Come here.”
Claire dragged him away.
Even though she paid attention to the volume of her voice so that no one else could hear them, the atmosphere around them became a little noisy. But it wasn’t the time to care about it.
Erich slowly reached out his hand and turned Claire around. Claire fluttered in his arms as he intertwined one hand and wrapped the other around her waist.
“Wait, are you crazy?”
“I think I am crazy. I’m losing my rationality.”
Without any modicum of self-control, he couldn’t help but kiss this woman, sparkling in his eyes. After all, he had held back for years.
If Claire had heard, she would have yelled, ‘When did you ever hold back?!’ Erich could already imagine it.
He opened Claire’s lips with his lips.
“Nnh.”
Following the scent of champagne, the sweetness reached Claire’s mouth.
Heat circulated not only to Erich’s lips, but also to her mouth. The slightly swollen flesh was softened.
“Erich!”
Claire pushed his shoulder. Erich didn’t care at all.
“I’m starting to get drunk very quickly.”
Louisa’s sedative wasn’t that strong. Louisa had seizures from time to time, but according to the doctor’s diagnosis, she was not really sick—she just needed attention and care.
And he knew that Louisa was taking light sleeping pills to match it.
There was no way the reaction would come so soon.
‘Is it because of the alcohol?’
Claire was also quite the drinker, but if she had ingested this, she would have had a very difficult time trying to resist it.
And most probably, she would have collapsed in the arms of a man who’d been summoned by the forged letter.
‘Is it better to just kill them?’
Erich thought so while vaguely recalling all the people involved, not specifying anyone in particular.
Especially, including the men who nearly became conspirators. Whether it was a gray haired bastard or a blond headed scoundrel—all of them.
He pulled Claire back to him by the waist. Then, with a face more relaxed than usual, he smiled as he looked at Charles and James, and a relative’s wife, who had followed them.
“We’ll be off first. Sir James, since you are my closest relative here, I would like to ask you to host the banquet for the rest of the night.”
“What?!”
“The introductions are all over, and what’s left is a normal party, so all of you, enjoy yourselves. I should spend time with my fiance.”
Claire tried to ask if he was crazy again, but before that, Erich pulled her cheek again.
“Erich…!”
Embarrassed, Claire called him. With his lips almost touching her, from a distance close enough that it must have looked like a kiss to others, he whispered.
“I’m drunk and my vision is starting to spin. Take me to my room naturally.”
“Is it because of what you drank earlier?”
Erich nodded in very slightly.
With eyes widened in surprise, Claire pursed her lips. Then Erich’s lips brushed at the edge of her lips, but she couldn’t afford to pay attention to that right now.
She leaned into Erich’s arms and pulled his arm and wrapped it around her shoulder.
This very act would be considered rude in this social setting, but rather than worrying about that, it’s best to save face and maintain their dignity while they still could. However, apart from thinking that it was funny, she was also well aware that it was a weakness.
Erich was the kind of man who shouldn’t reveal his weaknesses. He may do evil, but he must never make any mistakes.
His reputation was built on control, not goodness nor mercy.
If either side were to seemingly lose their composure and walk away drunk, it had to be Claire’s side.
Claire was supporting Erich as they were slowly leaving the banquet hall, but to others, it looked as if Claire was the one in a bad condition and Erich was supporting her.
Fortunately, Erich seemed to be a little dizzy, but he had no problems walking.
As soon as they left the banquet hall, Claire asked.
“Are you okay?”
“Let’s go to the bedroom.”
“You just said it was a strong alcohol. There’s no way you could get this drunk with just one drink.”
“Mhm…”
“You’re laughing again. Did you lie when you said you were drunk?”
“No.”
“Come to think of it.”
“Yes?”
“No.”
Even on that night five years ago, it seemed like he was laughing nonchalantly. Thinking back on that time, Claire surmised that he must have been drunk back then.
Of course, it wasn’t a normal level of drunkenness right now. Thinking about the amount he drank, he probably wouldn’t get this drunk even with undiluted soju.
As she walked, Erich seemed to get more and more inebriated. As Claire entered the hallway toward the bedroom, she called an attendant to assist Erich.
“Call the doctor. This person is too drunk. Tell the doctor to come discreetly.”
“Yes.”
An attendant hurried to the other side of the hall.
When he pushed him down on the bed, he seemed to listen to her. But then he pulled Claire’s arm and tried to lock her in his arms.
“This is not the time. Erich, how many fingers I’m holding up?”
She raised two fingers and Erich bit them into his lips.
It was clear that he had lost his senses.
“You’re being weird right now.”
Before she could finish her words, Erich turned around as he swept her from her back to her waist.
Their lips crossed again.
‘Well, at least it’s a kiss.’
It’ll be fine until the doctor comes.
Claire thought so and wrapped her arms around his neck.
But the kiss didn’t last long.
Erich’s lips flowed weakly down Claire’s cheeks. The weight of the body in Claire’s arms slumped weakly.
“Erich?”
He didn’t answer. Claire looked into his face in surprise.
Erich was really losing his senses.

14. Sedatives
Louisa could not understand what just happened that night.
The security guards dragged her into her boudoir and locked the door from the outside. It wasn’t long before the maids came in, but Louisa didn’t intend to be attended after.
“Get out! Everyone out!”
Crash!
The vase she had thrown shattered into pieces.
She went mad as she tossed the things and tore her clothes. Nevertheless, no doctor rushed to her aid, no maids came to assist.
Maria didn’t even show her face at all, and only Nyelle remained until the end and stomped her feet, not knowing what to do.
However, when it became clear that Louisa had no intention of being attended after, Nyelle hesitated and then ran outside.
Louisa was left all alone.
“Aaaahhh! Ahkk!”
She screamed hysterically.
But that didn’t last long either. Exhausted, Louisa sprawled across the couch. She pulled her tiara off and threw it haphazardly to the floor.
