My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 87
Had Bliss caused this injury? A fleeting concern crossed her mind, but the fresh bloodstains, still vivid and not dried from yesterday, suggested otherwise.
Overwhelmed by a growing sense of unease, Regina cautiously asked.
“Um, that blood?”
“Oh.”
Darien lifted his sleeve to check and explained as if it was nothing.
“I was bitten by a mad dog yesterday and just got a little revenge before coming back.”
Regina couldn’t bring herself to ask if that ‘mad dog’ might be Bliss and averted her gaze.
“A mad dog… Isn’t it dangerous to get close?”
“So, I cast a spell from a distance to immobilize it and then approached safely. No matter how sharp its teeth are, it’s no match while being restrained.”
It was understandable; a wizard as powerful as the Master of the Magic Tower level would be difficult to handle if they attacked from a distance. Even a swordmaster would struggle against a preemptive magical strike.
It seemed Bliss was indeed paying the price for his actions from yesterday.
Having received the latest news about the heated exchange of knife stabs between his former concubine and lover, Regina abandoned further thoughts.
It was impossible to handle multiple men with a normal mindset. Sometimes it’s necessary to clear one’s mind and accept reality as it is. Otherwise, she’d just end up with a headache without finding any solutions.
Drawing on her experiences from her past life as Yekarna, Regina tried to retreat into a state of mental emptiness. Darien, having magically cleaned his blood-stained sleeve, reached out to her.
“You’ve been bitten by a bug.”
He gently rubbed the place where his fingers traced the blue veins on her wrist. The contrast between his smooth, uncalloused fingers and Bliss’s rough hands sent a shiver down her spine.
The vibrant bruises visible beyond those impeccably smooth fingers finally registered in her sight. It was clear who the culprit was.
She hadn’t expected there to be such evidence left behind. She had let her guard down, thinking he’d make sure not to leave marks visible to others, but it seemed her trust was misplaced.
Regina felt embarrassed. Although he had tactfully mentioned being bitten by a bug, Darien surely knew how those marks had come about.
Trying to pull her hand away from his grasp to avoid showing more, she found him holding on firmly. An incomprehensible spell then flowed from his lips, and a comforting, warm magical energy swept over her body.
When she looked again, the skin on her wrist was miraculously smooth, as if the marks had never existed.
‘It’s magic.’
It was fascinating to experience it again after so long. Although the traces on her clothes were hidden, it seemed that all the chaotic marks elsewhere had disappeared as well.
“Ah… Thank you.”
“You shouldn’t pick up just anything. Especially not a mad dog.”
He gently rubbed the spot where the marks had been with his thumb and continued in a calm tone.
“You might have had your reasons, but still, a mad dog is dangerous.”
With no other words to offer, Regina simply replied, “Yes,” and waited for him to release her wrist.
Instead, he placed a kiss on her wrist. He lingered just above the spot where Bliss had left his mark, sucking and nibbling until a fresh mark appeared, then gently pulled away as if nothing had happened.
“I’m not the type to obsess like some men do at the beginning. As long as I’m the last one, that’s what matters.”
His eyes, which had been hidden beneath a deep hood, were revealed for the first time. They were as calm and inscrutable as a boundless ocean.
A wave of confusion enveloped her. In her past life, he had been younger and seemed like someone she needed to protect. Yet now, the man before her was inscrutable and did not need her protection.
A sudden realization struck her. He was the wizard who had used space travel magic to whisk away Fathom when she had tried to silence him. A superior wizard who calmly employed high-level magic in a place set with a magic circle to disrupt the flow of mana.
The lingering afterimage of Prince Iskanda made it hard for her to accept the current situation.
The delicate beauty who was afraid of rain and seemed in need of constant protection was now a Magic Tower Master. To think that in this life, he was engaging in combat on equal terms with someone he had never managed to look in the eye in his past life, Skyler’s reincarnation.
It was both impressive and unsettling to face someone so unfamiliar yet so known.
At that moment, he bit the tip of her finger, seemingly out of nowhere.
“Ugh.”
“Don’t think of anyone else when you’re in front of me.”
His reprimand fell on her ears with the unexpected pain. She refrained from explaining that she was only thinking of his past life and not of anyone else.
Even so, to bite someone rather than use words. After all the talk about mad dogs and such, it seems he’s even more so…
After magically alleviating the pain he had inflicted, he finally released her hand. His fingers, which had traced from her wrist to her fingers, lingered momentarily on a ring that adorned her finger before completely withdrawing.
Then, leaning in as if to share a secret, he spoke softly. Instinctively, she leaned toward him to listen better.
“It’s a pity to be outpaced by a mad dog, but I’ll wait patiently for the next opportunity.”
Despite his seemingly casual tone, chills ran down her spine, a lesson learned from past experiences: someone who claims to be patient and compliant is rarely genuinely so.
He continued in a gentle, almost intimate manner.
“I’ll make sure you enjoy yourself using various magical tools and potions. In ways only a wizard can.”
