“I never expected to see you in this life, Grand Duke.”

“Likewise, Prince Nyx.”

“If the Grand Duke hadn’t come, we wouldn’t have had this encounter.”

“Perhaps taking a leave of absence or withdrawing would be another option for you.”

Valenti’s eyes were slightly distorted with disdain.

“You remain unchanged, Grand Duke. How does Her Majesty still believe you to be a saintly figure?”

“It seems we finally agree on something. I, too, wonder why Her Majesty treats someone like you as if you are a fragile and delicate artifact.”

Valenti’s gaze darkened. They had been rivals in a past life, competing for the same woman. Naturally, their relationship was far from friendly.

“I must admit I am far from perfect compared to you, Grand Duke. Compassion, sanctity, holiness—terms that are quite distant from you, yet you’ve deceived the entire continent.”

“A prince who expertly pretends to be innocent and fragile, almost as if concealing a nest of a hundred vipers within.”

Valenti, who had been Grand Duke Friedrich Eldenberg in a past life, and Darien, once the First Concubine Iskanda Nyx, exchanged fierce glares in the ether.

Both of them knew well that neither Valenti was a saint nor was Darien delicate. The same went for the other five. The personas known to the public were not their true selves.

Realizing that slinging mud at each other was ultimately futile and self-defeating, they reached a stalemate.

“I had planned to enjoy a feast last night.”

Darien started, continuing to sip his tea.

“I had everything prepared and waited, but the guest who was supposed to come didn’t show. Do you know anything about that?”

“Ah.”

Valenti set down his teacup and smirked.

“I don’t know about your guest, Prince, but there was a lost lamb that I took to my room.”

Darien’s expression hardened. His fingers tightened around the handle of his teacup as he asked.

“What did you do?”

“I devoured it.”

Valenti deliberately licked his lips slowly, as if to emphasize.

“It was delicious.”

Both men sitting across the table knew exactly who the ‘lamb’ was.

Darien struggled to suppress the urge to unleash magic on Valenti’s smug face. How true are his words? The fact that he had taken someone to his room might be true, but the rest could be a lie, a deliberate provocation.

Such was his character. However, if, just if, all that he said was true…

“I must confess, in this life, I have always wanted to tear you apart, Grand Duke. Perhaps this life will grant me that wish?”

“How unfortunate. We disagree again. I have always wanted to throw you into the fiery pits, Prince. I’m looking forward to fulfilling that desire from my past life in this one.”

They exchanged chilly smiles towards each other.

“Look, the two are smiling together.”

“Handsome men smiling at each other—what a gracious sight.”

“If only the dean were here, it would be perfect.”

“Handsome by handsome by handsome! Just imagining it could kill me from joy.”

The students observing from a distance had no idea about the nature of their conversation, absorbed only in admiring their good looks.

* * *

“I think the First Concubine was the one who assassinated the Empress.”

“Really? I find that too obvious. I doubt it was the First Concubine.”

Prince Iskanda Nyx, the First Concubine, had blonde hair with gradients of green and yellow in his Pie Eye—a doll-like appearance.

Yekarna had quite liked his unique eyes, never tiring of looking at them. In this life, he seemed to be using the name Darien, with chocolate-brown hair and eyes the color of hackberry fruit, currently studying at the academy.

“Then, Hailey, who do you think it was?”

“Maybe the Chancellor or the Second Concubine? Arthur, who’s your pick?”

Marquis Lennon Kysis, the Chancellor. He had ash-gray hair and scarlet eyes, like the personification of the dim dawn before sunrise.

The Second Concubine was Mary Batusha. She personified softness and loveliness with her pale pink hair and light blue eyes.

“The Margrave or the Favorite Concubine?”

Margrave Skyler Linzmeyer.

Skyler Linzmeyer, the academy dean in this life, previously known for his jet-black hair and piercing dark eyes that epitomized the cold beauty archetype. He now had red hair and green eyes, giving him the appearance of a living embodiment of a rose. He goes by the name Bliss in this lifetime.

As for the Favorite Concubine… well, he’s simply the Favorite Concubine. Regina finds him beyond her ability to describe adequately. His hair and eyes are a deep, abyssal black, as far as she knows.

“It seems we both relatively have less suspicion towards the Grand Duke and the Third Concubine.”

Grand Duke Friedrich Eldenberg of the previous life was truly a divine figure with his mystic silver hair and purple eyes. He has inexplicably dark hair in this life, although his eyes remain the same color as his past life’s hair. Now known as Valenti, he is a priest and recently transferred to the Imperial Academy.

Prince Rexid Rybnoy, the Third Concubine, was almost like a water sprite with hair close to gray-blue and deep blue eyes.

“What if the Great Empress Yekarna ended her own life? Maybe one day she just found life meaningless.”

Hailey’s suggestion made Regina shake her head vigorously. That was completely wrong. Yekarna did not commit suicide.

Continuing the explanation, in her past life, Yekarna was known for her assertive red hair and golden eyes. However, her reincarnation, Regina, has starkly contrasting features with wheat-colored hair often likened to straw and very common brown eyes, giving her a very plain appearance.

‘Being a narrator isn’t much fun either.’

Out of boredom, as Hailey and Arthur threw out names, she internally listed their physical attributes, though it did little to lift her spirits.
