My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 29
Regina finished organizing her belongings and went to bed, but she still couldn’t figure out the identity of the man who had called her Yekarna.
She fervently hoped he wasn’t one of the seven. For the first time in a long time, Regina desperately wanted something. She didn’t want to be the kind of trash who fails to recognize a spouse or lover.
Even in the realm of trash, there are levels. Every piece of trash may be the same in other’s eyes. But they have their own advantages and disadvantages. In the bin, everyone aspires to be slightly less filthy and smelly.
She had been worrying into the night and fell asleep. She woke up feeling anything but refreshed.
“Uuhh.”
Groaning, Regina got up, washed, and dressed in her uniform. Having a single room wasn’t as great as she first thought. It seemed too generous for a commoner, but then she remembered it was because she was the top student. She should have guessed it sooner but her intuition had dulled.
After adjusting her ribbon one last time, she left her room. Classes hadn’t started yet, but she wanted to explore the building early to avoid getting lost later.
“So this is the layout.”
After a full round of the academy, she thought it was good to use.
‘The security is tight, and emergency magic tools are well-placed.’
It made sense since Skyler’s reincarnation was the Dean. He was the iron-blooded Margrave, the protector of the Empire’s northern frontier, the most dangerous area.
‘Even a devilkin invasion could be held off until reinforcements arrive.’
She mused in satisfaction, proud of her warrior-like thoughts.
Just before leaving the building, she spotted a sign marked ‘Dean’s Office’ and was horrified. She needed to get out quickly. She hurried away, nearly running.
“An ungraceful gait in the hallway is quite improper, young Regina.”
A languid yet suggestive voice made her hairs stand on end. Regina squeezed her eyes shut before opening her and reluctantly turned to face the source.
“Good morning, Dean.”
“Delighted to see your face this bright morning.”
Skyler’s reincarnation smiled brightly and greeted her. She heard during the entrance ceremony that his name in this life was Bliss.
“I apologize for lying in the square the other day. I thought the Dean was some strange person, so I was trying to push you away on purpose.”
“Hmm, yes, let’s say that’s the case.”
Bliss nodded. Despite his answer, he looked clearly skeptical. Even so, Regina maintained her composure, committed to her act.
“If there’s nothing else you wish to discuss, may I take my leave now?”
“Of course.”
His green eyes, reminiscent of a forest, were gently curved. Regina momentarily flinched, feeling an odd sense of unfamiliarity.
‘In your previous life, your eyes were blue.’
She knew those cold eyes could warm up just for her, sometimes even boiling with intensity, proving that even blue can feel hot.
“…Have a good day.”
Regina cut off her train of thought before getting too lost in reminiscence.
He briefly looked inscrutable, then smiled warmly.
“You too, young Regina.”
“I’ve apologized, so I’d appreciate it if you stopped calling me that.”
“Didn’t you want to be treated like a child?”
He reached out and lightly touched Regina’s hair.
“As you wish, I’ll treat you like a child until you’re ready to grow up, Regina.”
Actually, the touch was so light, she couldn’t be sure if he really touched her or just pretended to.
“Then, shall we play those adult games again with me someday?”
Regina convinced herself she heard nothing. Being a pure and innocent child of this new country, she couldn’t grasp the meaning of his words. Without responding, she turned to leave when he added.
“Ah, it’s best to avoid demerit points. If you have to come to the Dean’s office for discipline, I plan to give a special spank to young Regina.”
Frozen by his laughter-filled declaration from behind, Regina stiffened. The mention of spanking might mean a simple reprimand, but…
“Your Majesty, you did enjoy being hit here, didn’t you? See, uht, you taught me with your whole body how much you loved it. So, as a loyal subject, I’ll sincerely spank you. Until it’s red and sore, making it impossible for you to sit down on the throne… Haa, lift your hips, keep your back straight. Don’t slouch.”
Given what she had done in her past life, his words couldn’t be taken as purely innocent.
* * *
After exiting the building and getting completely out of his sight, Regina stopped and clutched her head.
“This is madness.”
With at least four years until graduation.
‘I must avoid demerit points at all costs.’
Regina engraved that fact in her mind. Even if his comments weren’t suggestive, honestly, she didn’t want to endure the humiliation of being spanked by anyone. Especially if the one giving the corporal punishment was a former lover!
After all, demerit points are given to students who made mistakes, so living uprightly should suffice.
Etiquette? She is confident. If she set her mind to it, she could even adhere to the imperial court’s strict manners.
Studying? Confident. Whether she would continue to be the top student was uncertain, but there was no way she would fall behind to the point of receiving demerit points.
Rules? Just familiarize and comply with them. She planned to memorize the entire school code after classes ended and she returned to her dorm.
Her strategy was flawless. The likelihood of receiving demerit points and having to visit the Dean’s office until graduation was zero.
Filled with confidence, Regina headed to the classroom where her first lesson would take place.
“Student Regina Heather, one demerit point.”
The elderly professor, who was adjusting his monocle, stated coldly.
Hearing her name suddenly called out, Regina reflexively lifted her head and realized.
She had unwittingly dozed off.
