My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 28
Friedrich and Skyler. That’s already two.
Just stepping out of the village, she had encountered two of the seven people linked to her in my past life. At this rate, it wouldn’t be surprising to reunite with all ‘seven guardians’ before even graduating from the academy.
What if they all together demand punishment for Yekarna? This life would be over. Even if each demanded ten years of servitude, she would be a slave until her dying day.
Regina shivered with a chill enveloping her entire body.
‘Friedrich is gone, so as long as I don’t see him again. For now, I just need to be wary of Skyler.’
However, as she was leaving the banquet hall and heading to the dormitory, having sampled all the dishes, an unexpected voice called out from behind.
“Yekarna Barrett Villarperosa Lee Enfield. Can we talk for a moment?”
Hearing her full name for the first time in ages sent shivers down her spine.
It wasn’t Friedrich’s reincarnation, nor Skyler’s. The voice was different.
A third person. A new past-life associate has appeared.
Regina clenched her trembling fingers lightly. Could it be Prince Iskanda? The one she dreamt about last night sprang to mind first.
Tensely, she slowly turned around to find a young man in a uniform standing there. He was quite good-looking.
‘But…’
Who are you?
When she first saw Friedrich’s reincarnation, she recognized him instantly. Even though his appearance and aura had completely changed from his past life.
The same was true for Skyler’s reincarnation. The moment she encountered them, an indescribable sensation screamed their identities throughout her body. But this time was different. Numbness. No feeling at all.
It was as if she was just encountering Person 1 on the street.
‘He recognized me. So, he must be someone involved in my past-life.’
Regina narrowed her eyes and scrutinized the man before her.
Could it be one of the seven, and she just doesn’t recognize him? A spouse or lover from her past life? To not recognize someone who was supposedly a spouse or lover, even if she was notorious for being promiscuous in her past life. Is she that much of a trash?
She stood frozen overwhelmed with shock when the unidentified man frowned.
“What are you doing?”
Belatedly, Regina came to her senses.
Whatever the man’s identity, this wasn’t the time to stand idly by. Feigning calm, Regina responded with a level tone.
“I turned around because I heard a voice.”
“Oh, you weren’t startled because I called out your name?”
“I have a name my parents pondered over for three months and ten days, ‘Regina Heather.'”
The man, inadvertently cast as a rude individual who disregarded the name lovingly given by her parents to arbitrarily change it.
“And isn’t it natural to turn around out of curiosity when someone calls out the name of a person who isn’t even alive?”
“How did you know it was the name of someone not alive?”
It was a foolish quibble.
“One doesn’t need to know the full name to guess that from just ‘Yekarna’ and ‘Enfield’. Enfield is the Emperor’s last name so it refers to the Great Empress Yekarna. Of course, I knew the full name. But how could a fool who doesn’t even know that pass the entrance exam of this empire’s academy?”
Regina retorted annoyingly on purpose and haughtily lifted her chin, adding a look that said, ‘Could you be that fool?’
Instantly, the man’s complexion changed.
“I, I study reasonably well, you know?”
As she gave him a ‘Is that so?’ look, he hesitated and stepped back.
“Oh, it’s late today, so I’ll come back another time, just so you know!”
Watching the man’s back as he left with a line befitting a third-rate villain, Regina tilted her head.
‘…Who really is he?’
Excluding those who were definitely not it, and thinking over one by one, she couldn’t match him with anyone. Regina shrugged and headed back to her dormitory.
Meanwhile, the one who had tactically retreated went straight to the cause of this situation to vent his anger.
“Hey! Did you deceive me?”
“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
Darien looked bewildered at the suddenly angry Fathom.
“About what you said earlier! During the freshman entrance ceremony earlier!”
“That was true… Did you actually go see her?”
“How could I not check after what you said?”
“Haa. So, what exactly happened?”
“I asked if she was Yekarna Barrett Villarperosa Lee Enfield.”
Darien smacked his forehead.
“And then?”
“She’s definitely not. First off, her personality is nasty… so maybe that matches? But now that I think about it, her disdainful look seemed somewhat familiar? That expression that makes one attire distorted.”
Fathom’s voice lost confidence as he spoke. Darien shook his head slightly.
Rupert of the Gilagon Peninsula was known as a hot-tempered but clever leader. However, how he ended up as someone so simple-minded and ignorant was baffling. It was clear that a severe error occurred during his rebirth.
“Darien, how about visiting the temple at least once?”
“What for?”
“Who knows? Maybe the error could be fixed.”
“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”
“It might be better to fix it if possible, for the sake of your life.”
“This punk really does say incomprehensible things from time to time.”
Ignoring Fathom’s outburst, Darien pondered over what to do next. Given Fathom’s actions had likely raised her guard, it seemed wise to observe the situation for now and see how she reacted to the appearance of someone from her past life.
In hindsight, Fathom’s impulsive behavior might not have been entirely bad, considering it provided valuable information.
“Just do whatever you want, Rupert, but don’t bring me up.”
Darien’s remark sharpened Fathom’s gaze.
“Using me as your vanguard, huh? Always so cryptic.”
“At least some of your past intellect remains, Rupert. As a friend, that’s truly heartening.”
