My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 134
And then, he closed his eyes. As she gazed at his neatly arranged long eyelashes, Regina silently screamed inside.
After tossing an explosive as dangerous as a magic blast, he wished her a good night. He wasn’t even teasing her.
After disturbing her thoughts, Valenti seemed to have fallen asleep as his eyelids remained motionless. Annoyed, she glared at him, then recalled something he had said earlier.
“Watch me until I fall asleep.”
“I sleep like an angel.”
She couldn’t help but smile slightly at that. Now that she saw him this way, he did look like the angel he claimed to be. His long, gracefully extended eyelashes, the deep shadowed eyes, the raised brow bones leading to a high, straight nose—he had a sculpted, divine appearance.
‘Maybe he looks more like a god than an angel.’
She wondered how much time she had spent analyzing his looks. Realizing her situation, she became anxious again. This man, with his unreal beauty, had imprisoned her. The only way to escape was to strip him of his purity and remove him from the position of pope.
Of course, she couldn’t bring herself to force him or seduce him into a relationship. Both options were out of the question for her. Dragging him from the position of pope—twice, no less. But she couldn’t remain trapped in this sanctuary forever.
‘I’ll have to wait for him to change his mind.’
Though he had said he would imprison her for life, the chance of him actually doing so was slim. For now, he might want to torment her out of revenge, but eventually, he would get bored, indifferent, or weary.
And after all, he was Friedrich’s reincarnation. The spirit of charity that had once made him a saint must still be within him, right? Perhaps his kind heart would forgive her sooner than expected.
‘Yes, let’s wait for now.’
Though she couldn’t return to the academy for a while, it wasn’t that important since she had planned to drop out before graduation anyway. She tried to think positively and forced herself to sleep.
When she woke up in the morning, Valenti was sitting at the desk. His appearance was neat and composed, clearly unlike someone who had just woken up.
“You’re awake.”
He laid down the quill he had been holding and stood up. After going to the bathroom, he returned holding a wash basin. As he dragged the trolley with his toiletries toward her, she thought ‘No way’. But as he came closer, she held her breath.
Seeing him roll up the sleeves of his priest’s robe, she panicked and waved her hand.
“I’ll take care of it myself.”
“Since no one else can come in, you’ll have to let me attend to you.”
“No, I don’t need any help…”
Before she could finish, he neatly wrapped a towel around her hair so it wouldn’t get wet. Then, he dampened her face with warm water, lathered soap with a bubble net, gently rubbed her face, and carefully rinsed it off with warm water to make sure no residue remained.
‘Who would have thought I’d ever get a face wash from the pope?’
It was a luxury that even the Empress Yekarna, had never experienced.
As he gently patted her face dry with a towel, she awkwardly spoke.
“I can do it myself.”
She had lived as a commoner for twenty years after being reincarnated. Now, it felt strangely unfamiliar to receive service.
“I’m doing this because I want to.”
Once he had dried her completely, he lowered the towel and carefully brushed her eyelashes with his finger. Apparently, there were still droplets of water there.
“Shall I prepare breakfast?”
“Uh, yes.”
Though she wasn’t particularly hungry, Regina agreed. If she refused, he would probably go without food too. After thinking for a moment, she realized that they couldn’t cook here, so the food would have to be brought from outside. When food arrived, the door would open.
‘Maybe I can escape when that happens.’
Even if she managed to get out of here, she wouldn’t get her sense of direction back right away, but that was a problem for later. For now, she decided to try and escape.
He tugged at a cord next to the bed, and before long, footsteps were heard.
“Did you call for me, Your Eminence?”
“Please prepare two servings of food, for reception.”
“Understood.”
Despite ordering two servings for a solitary room, the person outside didn’t question it.
Even if they don’t open the door now, they’ll have to when they bring the food later.
Regina sharpened her senses, waiting for the right moment. Soon, the sound of the trolley being pulled grew nearer. She stiffened and readied herself to dash out at any moment.
“The meal is ready.”
“Come in.”
With Valenti’s permission, the door opened. Regina didn’t miss the chance and quickly dashed toward it. With the reflexes and agility of a swordmaster, she seized the optimal moment, slipping through the opening without being caught. She felt a rush of exhilaration.
‘I’m out…!’
But as she landed and looked around, confusion quickly replaced her excitement.
She had definitely come out through the door, so why couldn’t she see the bed?
“We should eat, Regina.”
A familiar voice reached her ears. Turning around, she saw Valenti standing at the table, with a man in priest’s robes moving dishes.
What was going on?
Still dazed, Valenti gently urged her.
“Let me wash your hands, come here.”
Not fully understanding the situation, she hesitated but went to him. He washed her hands in a finger bowl filled with water, the water adorned with flower petals, then dried her hands with a soft cloth before pulling out a chair for her to sit.
Confused, she sat at the table, trying to process what had just happened. She had clearly gone through the door, but when she came to her senses, she was back inside.
Even if the door is open, I can’t leave unless he allows it?
The realization was chilling. If he really wanted to abuse his power, he could lock her in here, starve her, and leave her to die, while he lived freely outside.
