She stopped in surprise and stared at him. She couldn’t remember the last time he had laughed like that. No matter how hard she tried to recall, she couldn’t bring it to mind.

Yes, Friedrich had laughed like that. Like a playful boy. He always seemed so neat and noble, but when he smiled, he looked younger than his age, and that’s when Yekarna thought of him…

‘Him what….?’

Her thoughts didn’t continue. It felt like something was about to come to mind, but it quickly sank below the surface. The feeling was like missing a fish she had held in her palm, and though she reached into the water, trying to catch the thread of the memory, once a memory slipped into the abyss of forgetfulness, it never resurfaced.

‘I knew my past life’s memories weren’t intact, but… even this?’

“What are you thinking about, Your Majesty?”

Valenti’s question pulled Regina back to reality. Reflexively, she turned towards the voice but stopped herself.

It was hard to believe that the man who was gently looking at her had ever confined someone. He was too gentle, and the dissonance made her confused. Cautiously, she began to speak.

“Well, I have to attend a lecture early in the morning, so… could I go back to the academy now?”

“Don’t even dream about it.”

“Yes.”

She thought he was just trying to intimidate her, but it turned out he wasn’t joking. He seemed genuinely intent on keeping her there.

After taking a sip of her now lukewarm tea, she carefully asked.

“How long?”

“How about until this life ends? I can’t stop you from being reborn elsewhere after you die.”

His tone was casual, as if negotiating the price of an item, but for Regina, with her life on the line, her hands trembled. The confinement lasts until the end of her life? Does that mean she can’t leave here until the day she dies?

He approached her as she froze. Covering the mouth of the teacup with his large hand, he spoke in a surprisingly gentle voice.

“If you drink too much, you won’t be able to sleep well.”

“Ah? Okay….”

In truth, as a Swordmaster, drinking coffee, tea, or even water wouldn’t interfere with sleep, but Regina didn’t have the courage to argue with Valenti, so she simply nodded.

He took the teacup away and walked to the wardrobe. After briefly considering what was inside, he returned holding two sets of clothes—one was a priest’s robe, and the other was a very thin nightgown, like the one he was wearing.

“There are only casual clothes and sleeping attire here. The other clothes are outside. Which would you prefer?”

“Purpose…?”

“The clothes you’ll wear to sleep, of course. You can’t wear your outdoor clothes to bed.”

Regina immediately grabbed the priest’s robe in haste. She absolutely refused to wear something so sheer.

“There’s a bathroom over there. Please get ready for bed.”

She obediently moved in the direction he pointed to.

Who would have thought she’d end up wearing a priest’s robe in her life?

Wait, isn’t this the same outfit he normally wears?

Although it didn’t seem worn, since it came from his wardrobe… she tried not to think about it as the feeling began to unsettle her. She focused solely on putting on the robe. It was much too large for her frame.

When she looked at it, it didn’t seem like it would be this big, but was there really such a difference in our sizes?

She suddenly felt a tightness in her throat as she stepped out of the bathroom. As she hesitated, the sound of her footsteps echoed. He turned to face her from in front of the silver candlestick, with an enigmatic expression.

“It’s larger than I expected.”

‘Of course. You’ve always had taller stature and broad shoulders. Must be nice.’

Was it her fault for being born smaller than in her previous life?

She muttered to herself when Valenti blew out the candle, plunging the room into darkness. His voice broke the silence.

“Shall we sleep now?”

“Oh, but where will I sleep?”

“There’s only one bed, so you’ll have to sleep with me.”

She had expected, but… Regina gave up and followed him. She knew that any resistance to sleeping on the couch or chair wouldn’t change anything.

As she got closer to the bed, her heart began to race. She couldn’t remember the last time she had shared a bed with him. She lay down at the edge of the bed, trying to keep as much distance as possible from him.

“Come closer. There’s only one pillow, so I’ll let you use my arm as one.”

“No. It’s fine. I can sleep without a pillow…”

“Hurry.”

Reluctantly, she moved closer to him. He seemed to be waiting for it, slipping his arm under her head and turning her towards him and whispered softly.

“Would you like me to show you how to leave this room?”

In the dark, his silver eyes gleamed mischievously.

“All Your Majesty needs to do is violate me. Once I lose my purity, I won’t be the Pope anymore, and then you won’t need my permission or pardon to leave.”

Though his explanation was calm and unthreatening, as if there was nothing dangerous about it, she froze as if she had been stabbed in a vital spot. The mistakes from her past life pierced her entire being like a blade.

‘To violate him? Just as Yekarna did in my past life, even in this one?’

Regina squeezed her eyes shut.

‘I can’t do that.’

Was she being told to repeat the same mistake? That was impossible.

“Or….”

He trailed off, lowering his hand before gently touching her lower abdomen. At the sudden contact, she shivered and instantly lifted her eyelids. He met her gaze with his deep, dark eyes and added.

“Unless you make it so that I can’t bear it without putting it inside Your Majesty.”

Her mind went blank. The scenarios Valenti had suggested were shocking. She was being asked to either attack him or have him attack her.

Would these words really come from a pope’s mouth?

He gently caressed her face, still bearing the trace of shock, and with a soft smile, he bid her goodnight.

“Have a good night, Regina.”
