“Here, it’s all ready.”

After a while, Theodore served me a hot breakfast. It consisted of an omelet stuffed with sausages, grilled asparagus, a salad made of various vegetables, crispy oven-toasted bread with strawberry jam and orange marmalade, and freshly squeezed apple juice. And, of course, there was also tea.

“These are all the things I like.”

“….Enjoy your meal.”

“Thank you, Theodore. You too.”

When I smiled brightly, Theodore blushed and looked away. Acting like a newlywed. Technically, we were newlyweds, but we weren’t exactly newlyweds either.

“Huh? This is better than I expected.”

“Did you expect it to taste bad?”

“I didn’t have high expectations.”

“…”

Theodore glanced at me again and then took a bite of his omelet, chewing thoughtfully. Recently, I’ve noticed something new, but watching him eat is quite adorable.

“What shall we do after breakfast? Anything you’d like to do?”

“…There’s plenty.”

His answer sounded meaningful, and so did the look he gave me. This time, I was the one to glance back at him. I understood well what he meant without him having to say it.

“Shameless.”

“….!”

Startled by my teasing remark, Theodore looked slightly hurt. I chuckled softly and used my fork to pick up a carrot and popped it into his mouth. His eyes blinked slowly as he chewed.

“Just kidding.”

After breakfast, we took a casual stroll. We walked among the blooming flower beds and observed the birds in the lush green trees. The sky was clear and bright blue, and the whole area brimmed with the vibrancy of summer.

Near the pond by the annex, yellow and white daffodils were in full bloom, showing off their beautiful forms. In the pond, two goldfish brought by Harriet were still alive. One had grown plump and large, while the other remained small. I believe he said the smaller one was the male and the larger was the female.

“It looks like the big one is stealing all the food.”

As I sat by the pond, the small goldfish seemed to complain as it swam near me. I scattered some fish food from a paper bag, and it started feeding voraciously. The larger goldfish seemed uninterested, probably full from the food given by a servant earlier that day.

“I should come here often and feed this little one.”

I stood up after crouching to watch the fish. Theodore held an umbrella over me, shielding me from the warm May sun.

“Let’s go see the lilacs and roses before they wilt. They’ll fade quickly if it rains.”

Theodore nodded and offered his arm, which I took with a smile. We started walking side by side. The white lace umbrella created a cool shade, and a refreshing breeze carrying the scent of grass wafted by.

“Nice weather. Don’t you feel like having ice cream?”

“Would you like some?”

“Yes, vanilla, please.”

Soon, we reached a spot lush with blooming roses and lilacs. Theodore guided me to a gazebo, lightly kissed my cheek, and said,

“Wait here for a moment, I’ll get us some ice cream.”

“Sounds good.”

I stretched my legs and spun the umbrella in my hands, watching Theodore head back to the annex. Under the bright sun, his black hair shimmered like obsidian.

“Here, I brought it.”

Shortly after, Theodore returned, pulling a cold cup of ice cream from a picnic basket. He must have run back. There were a few beads of sweat visible on his forehead, and the ice cream hadn’t melted at all.

I took the ice cream cup in one hand and patted the seat next to me with the other. Understanding my gesture, Theodore sat down with a soft smile.

“Is it hot?”

“A bit.”

I set the ice cream cup aside and pulled out a handkerchief from my pocket to wipe his face. Then I summoned Frigga to sprinkle some cold air around him to alleviate the heat.

Frigga, still in the form of a snow rabbit, swatted at me with its front paws as if to say not to summon it for such trivial matters, then hopped away.

Theodore, having witnessed the entire scene, let out an absurd chuckle. I just brushed the snow from my clothes and laughed.

“Frigga can be quite fierce.”
