Marriage with a Suspiciously Demure Husband - Chapter 94
Chapter 94
“What? What did you say?”
“Was it so difficult to listen to me when I told you not to go out there alone?”
“But, I…”
I’d come out of the inn because I was worried, and yet Kairos was furious with me.
“It was that hard to listen to me for a moment? You came out here just to upset me, didn’t you? Well, congratulations, you’ve succeeded. Truly impressive.”
His words dripped with sarcasm as he strode angrily back towards the inn. I understood he was angry, but his harsh words sparked my own anger.
‘Why couldn’t he just speak to me nicely?’
“Nothing dangerous happened! And even if it had, I would have taken care of myself. Nothing happened, so why do you have to speak to me like that…?”
“Yes, you’re absolutely right. There’s no need to listen to me at all.”
His sarcasm stung, and I felt a surge of frustration. ‘I came out here because I was worried, so worried about him!’
“Put me down. I want to get down.”
He ignored me completely, continuing into the inn and up the stairs.
My anger escalated, and I pounded on his shoulder with my fists, but he remained unmoved. He carried me all the way to our room and finally set me down on the bed, still without a word.
He simply dismissed the maid and guards with a look.
“… I’ll be back after I change.”
“I just went out because I was worried about everyone, not for any other reason.”
I snapped defensively, refusing to admit I’d been worried about him specifically.
“I’ll talk to you after I change.”
He left without another word. I was so taken aback that I didn’t even try to stop him. A moment later, Hizan returned, carrying a tray with a wet cloth.
“Madam, allow me to assist you.”
“…I can manage.”
I said listlessly to Hizan, kicking off my shoes and shrugging out of my coat.
‘Was this really something to be so angry about?’
Kairos returned much later after I’d cleaned up and changed. His damp hair suggested he’d washed up again. I noticed his fiery temper had cooled, but I pointedly ignored him.
When he took a step closer, I turned my back.
“Hazel.”
“….”
“…I was worried. Worried that something might happen to you. This isn’t Elcard.”
His deep voice resonated from behind me.
“….”
“I overreacted. I’m sorry I frightened you.”
His voice, softened with apology, unexpectedly brought tears to my eyes.
“…You could have just…spoken to me nicely. I would’ve understood. Regardless of what you think of me, I’m capable of rational thought.”
“I know. I shouldn’t have interrogated you like that. It was my fault. I was so worried that I didn’t stop to consider the situation.”
He called my name again, his voice low.
“Hazel.”
I turned slightly, giving him a sharp glare. In that moment, he knelt before me. Even though I tried to look away, his large hand cupped my cheek.
“I’m glad you’re alright. I was wrong.”
He turned my face towards him, his gaze holding mine, and my anger dissipated like steam.
‘It’s so frustrating. He was the one who got angry first…’
Annoyed, and perhaps a little embarrassed by the flicker of genuine concern I’d glimpsed in his eyes, I covered them with my hand.
“You’re so impossible.”
A sheepish expression crossed Kairos’s face as he gently stroked the back of my hand. “I know I was wrong.”
“….”
‘He really is impossible.’
