Marriage with a Suspiciously Demure Husband - Chapter 91.1
Chapter 91.1
“Even now, it’s fast enough.”
“…This is fast?”
I frowned and pointed to the window, asking if I was seeing things correctly. I wanted to say that it would be faster to walk.
“It seems the coachman is being careful because he’s worried about your safety. The attendants really care about you.”
“…I think I’m in more danger now because I’m so frustrated.”
There was nothing to be careful about. I felt like I was going to explode. I even had the illusion that the scenery was frozen in place.
“They’ll pick up the pace soon.”
Unlike me, who was feeling frustrated, he was relaxed. The man I know wasn’t quick-tempered, though he didn’t enjoy being leisurely either. He was always neat, decisive, and efficient. But now, he’s taking his sweet time, which was just ridiculous.
Well, whatever… I guess we’d get there eventually. The carriage didn’t seem to be going slow because the coachman didn’t like it, so I decided to enjoy the scenery for a while.
The carriage, which was supposed to pick up speed soon, continued to move slowly even after a long time. I quickly inserted a cushion between us as we were getting closer. It was a thick cushion that could fit a child, but it couldn’t block his gaze, which felt like it was burning me.
Even though the carriage was spacious enough to comfortably fit five or six people, his presence made it feel cramped. His presence was just that overwhelming.
I felt wrong that I hadn’t noticed it before.
“…Stop staring. You’re going to burn a hole through my face.”
In the end, I was the first to speak, unable to bear his unwavering gaze any longer. He grinned as if he had been waiting for me to say something.
“If you let me hold your hand, I’ll stop looking.”
“…Just keep staring.”
I could just turn my head away.
As I heard a deflating sound beside me, it seemed that he tapped his fingers impatiently as if asking me to look at him and even turned his shoulder towards the window.
His smile deepened.
The carriage inevitably arrived at the next gate as if it were taking a leisurely stroll and then moved on to the next region. But why are there so many gate inspections today?
“I’m sorry, another inspection…”
While the carriage was stopped, Sid had another troubled expression.
We just passed one, and now another one is being inspected. There aren’t that many fixed gates. It was fortunate that we haven’t encountered inspections on the longer routes. Every time we were about to travel for an hour, there was an inspection.
It wasn’t boring, as Kairos occasionally made witty remarks or took out the dessert he had made when I was feeling glum, but it definitely didn’t feel like a date. It felt more like a newlywed couple’s outing.
Finally, we arrived at the last gate before crossing the Elkard border.
Once we leave Elkard, the capital, the distance between gates will be quite long, taking more than an hour or two. This was because there were gates that took a whole day to reach.
As I traveled to Mabel, I realized how vast the empire truly was, which made me even more worried. Before I knew it, we had left the capital and crossed the border with northern Sergal, reaching the next gate after an hour’s drive.
It was funny how the wind felt different even though we had only crossed the border.
Instead of the long distance, we only had to pass through two more gates to reach Duke Hadid’s territory.
However, the carriage, which had stopped before the gate, showed no signs of moving. I looked out the window and saw that Sid, who had entered the gatehouse, wasn’t coming out even after a long time. It shouldn’t take this long to talk about an inspection.
“I think there’s another problem.”
It wasn’t until much later that Sid came out.
“Just a moment.”
Kairos opened the door and went outside. I watched the door close and then turned my head to the window. I saw Sid running towards Kairos, who had noticed him coming out. I kept my eyes on the two of them.
