Chapter 3

“……”

Knowing there wasn’t a trace of exaggeration in his words, Adeline let out a sigh right in front of him.

No wonder Claire found him suffocating in the original story.

Compared to her, Adeline could breathe so freely, even to the point of sighing left and right.

“Then, are you going to attend the saintess’s inauguration, Young Master?”

If so, Adeline would definitely have to accompany him.

“Is that your roundabout way of asking me to break your ankle?”

An answer came back that had nothing to do with the question.

“How did you come to that conclusion?”

Adeline tilted her head, asking back.

“Because you seem like you want to come along.”

Usually, Adeline would simply go where Sien told her to go, come when he called, and so on. To him, her being this forward looked like someone desperate to attend the inauguration.

But in truth, from Adeline’s perspective, it wasn’t to that extent.

If Sien decided to leave her behind, she would just nod quietly and stay home. After all, the one who needed to meet Claire was Sien, not her.

However, for Sien, it seemed leaving Adeline behind was not even an option.

“I’ll think about it.”

Sien straightened Adeline’s clothes and gave an ambiguous answer.

Depending on his mood, it could also mean he wasn’t going to obey Duke Floye’s order.

“……”

Adeline looked at Sien as if she truly couldn’t understand.

Duke Floye had surely told Sien to attend the saintess’s inauguration with the same thought in mind.

Yet, the one who should be taking the most initiative was being the most ambiguous.

‘Normally, he’d skip all the formalities and wouldn’t think it odd to go meet her before the inauguration even started.’

What on earth was he thinking…

The next day—

Sien’s father, otherwise known as Duke Floye and head of House Floye, called for Adeline.

“I heard you called for me, Your Grace.”

“So now you’re back to calling me ‘Your Grace’. Did Sien say something to you?”

“……”

Adeline kept silent, meaning yes.

“Well, never mind. That’s not why I called you.”

Of course, it must be because of Sien.

Adeline had already guessed why she’d been called before she came here.

“See if you can persuade Sien to attend the inauguration.”

As expected, just as Adeline had thought. But she couldn’t exactly agree to it.

Adeline bowed deeply as she replied, “I apologize, Your Grace. If he won’t listen to you, he’ll listen to me even less.”

“At the very least, he’ll pretend to listen.”

The duke clicked his tongue, as if exasperated with his son’s attitude.

Adeline, head still bowed, was lost in thought.

The relationship between Sien and his parents was neither bad nor good. They tried not to interfere in each other’s affairs. In a word, it was closer to neglect.

But that didn’t mean they had no interest in each other, and in their own ways, they tried to help Sien like this.

Even if Sien never accepted it.

And the fallout always came down on Adeline.

Whenever Sien caused a major problem or refused to do what he was told.

“Do what you can to let him come into contact with the saintess.”

He usually acted indifferent, but today, there was a hint of concern for his son in his voice.

“If the saintess really can purify Sien’s magic…”

Adeline, guessing what the duke was getting at, inwardly muttered something that would have made him blanch if he’d heard it.

Like father, like son.

“You’ll do anything for Sien, so I trust you’ll handle it well.”

Adeline also knew all too well that Sien needed the saintess.

She, too, was someone who wanted things to proceed as they had in the original, with Sien and Claire coming together.

Even knowing Sien would get angry if he found out she’d accepted a request from anyone else, she still couldn’t refuse.

As she left the duke’s office and walked down the corridor, Adeline continued to ponder.

If there was one thing Duke Floye was right about, it was that Adeline would do anything for Sien.

“Do you not understand the imperial language? Even if I ask like this, do you not get it?”

Everything Adeline needed to survive here, she had learned from Sien.

Not just the language and common sense, but even the maid training that should have been done by the head maid.

Because of that, her interactions with other servants of the house were extremely limited, and Sien was the only person in Adeline’s entire world.

To exaggerate a bit, Sien was everything to Adeline.

‘But if I suggest going to the inauguration again, I really might get my ankle broken this time…’

Even as she resolved to do anything for Sien, she couldn’t help but worry.
