If They Get Obsessed, I’m Doomed - Chapter 73
Chapter 37.2
“Could it be… that he’s waiting for me?”
Even as she spoke thoughtlessly, her voice quivered with surprise. The somewhat disconcerting possibility that crossed her mind made her shoulders tense up.
‘No, it can’t be…’
Repeating this to herself, Ariel dismissed the unsettling speculation. She thought it must be a coincidence and pushed aside the burden of concern about him.
Right now, she needed to focus on Lexius, not Skylar.
Ariel walked down the library corridor and quickly reached the reading room.
There was still a long time until the promised nine o’clock. It was well over two hours away. To pass the time with reading, she wandered among the bookshelves. She wanted to read simple and easy introductory magic books, but most of the books were specialized ones that required more advanced knowledge.
Reluctantly, Ariel picked the one that looked the easiest from among them and sat down at an ebony desk.
Even though she tried to read the content, with her current level of knowledge, turning a single page was difficult. In addition, trying to interpret and rapping her head around something she didn’t understand only gave her a headache.
Realizing that continuing to read wouldn’t be helpful, she put the book aside.
‘When will Lexius arrive…’
Ariel looked up toward the window to gauge the time. However, before her gaze could reach the tall window, it was halted by the sight of a tall figure at the entrance.
The person she had been waiting for while staring at a book she couldn’t read until now.
Lexius walked into the reading room, massaging the back of his neck with his right hand. He was dressed casually in a loose-fitting outfit, similar to yesterday. He held two books in his left hand.
“Senior.”
“You’re here early.”
He replied indifferently and sat down across from Ariel. There was no sign of admiration or approval for her being early, no matter how closely she looked.
‘I should have just slept in and come out on time.’
Ariel faced him with a hint of regret.
His reddish hair was slightly damp as if he had just finished showering. His eyes casually scanned the open book as she studied him. It was the same book she had struggled to understand, 〈 Interpretation of Basic Magic. 〉 His golden eyes narrowed slightly as he checked the book’s title and content.
“You don’t even know the basics, and yet you’re reading such a difficult book.”
“Was this book difficult?”
“It’s difficult. It’s about thoroughly breaking down and interpreting the fundamentals of magic.”
“If it’s about breaking down and interpreting… isn’t it supposed to be a book that helps make understanding magic easier?”
“Not at all. The book delves into where magic originated, how it has developed, and how it interacts, interpreting one of the proposed theories from an academic perspective. It’s just headache-inducing and has nothing to do with actually using magic.”
“…I didn’t know that. I thought it was about interpreting the fundamentals of magic as the title suggests.”
“There’s nothing like that here. This place is fundamentally where only the most educated and high-ranking people come.”
He dismissed the current situation with brutal objectivity and put the open book away. Instead, he placed the two books he had brought on the desk.
〈 Magic Usage — Beginner 〉, and 〈 Basic Magic and Its Types. 〉
“Are these books at my level?”
“They’re for kids under the age of ten, but yeah, that’s right.”
“….”
“Why? Are you upset?”
“No! Thank you for bringing them, Senior.”
Ariel waved her hand.
There was no reason to get angry about her situation. It was just that her level of knowledge, which was below that of a ten-year-old, seemed utterly bleak to her. In the meanwhile, Lexius found her reaction underwhelming. Still, after a moment, he opened the books he had brought and pushed them forward toward her.
“Come on, let’s study.”

Lexius’s teaching was easy to understand and clear. He pointed out the exact things that needed to be memorized and learned. Nonetheless, it wasn’t easy to keep up with his pace. His lessons involved a lot of material to digest at once, and he required thorough preparation and review. The faster she could absorb the knowledge, the more homework she was assigned.
Ariel, who planned to win favor by showing diligence, was truly struggling.
Class time was typically about two hours, and Ariel had to stay in the library after class for an additional six hours to study. She would then review for two more hours before bed. In total, she spent around ten hours a day learning the basics of magic and magic power. Of course, this was only for basic theoretical learning. She also had to set aside separate time to activate magic power and do basic magic training for practical exercises. This was essentially practical practice, and it typically took at least two to three hours, though sometimes more than five hours when she hit a wall.
She seemed to be going through all sorts of hardships because of Lexius. Despite this, it was frustrating that his favorability didn’t increase at all. Even Skylar added to her troubles. Because he sat guarding the central lounge every day, she had to always use the back door to get around.
Naturally, she was getting insufficient sleep and wasn’t resting well.
As a result, during the Saturday class, she started to doze off.
“Wake up.”
As Lexius’s index finger tapped her forehead, Ariel lifted her drooping head and struggled to open her eyes.
“Did you not get any sleep?”
“…Ung… I kept failing to regulate and release the amount of magic power consistently… By the time I succeeded, it was three in the morning.”
“And yet, you came out before seven today, too?”
“…Ung…”
Lexius, who had been patiently listening to her drawn-out responses, stood up from his chair.
“Let’s stop for today.”
“I’ll be fine after washing my face with cold water. I’ll be right back.”
Just as Ariel rubbed her eyes and started to get up from the desk, Lexius blocked her path.
“You won’t be efficient in that state.”
“But still, I can’t help it. I have to start classes in two days…!”
Ariel’s voice rose in surprise when Lexius’s arm suddenly wrapped around her waist before her field of vision shifted.
