If They Get Obsessed, I’m Doomed - Chapter 70
Chapter 36.1
Ariel tidied herself up a bit and came downstairs.
Skylar was on the first floor of the dormitory. She quietly took one step at a time, minimizing the sound of her footsteps. The portrait of him that appeared on her phone showed that he wasn’t moving from the central lounge.
‘Now was the opportunity to go to the library.’
Because of that, she deliberately took the stairs at the end of the hallway that didn’t pass by the central lounge.
On the second floor, there was an aerial passage that led directly to the library, though it was completely on the opposite side of her room. To use it, she had to pass by the central staircase, which posed too great a risk of being caught by the guards, attendants, or maids stationed there. And if she got caught, she would likely be called to Skylar immediately. While she wasn’t certain, it was a hunch.
If she made a mistake, she would miss a perfect opportunity to have a private meeting with Lexius.
‘That can’t happen. Right now, we need to develop a balanced favorability.’
Ariel quickly passed through the first-floor hallway, holding her phone in a way that she could hide it in her sleeve at any time. Fortunately, the side door was open, so she pushed the door and left the dormitory.
Skylar was still in the lounge.
As she stepped onto the lawn and let out a sigh, the bright morning sunlight was shining down on her. The library was visible not far away. The library, with its white exterior walls resembling a dormitory building, was very quiet as its name suggested and there were only two guards present. The interior was the same. There were few people and it was quiet.
Lexius was in the innermost reading room on the first floor of the library.
After confirming the exact location, Ariel began to walk. As she passed between the white walls and elegantly crafted columns with marble flooring, it felt more like entering a well-maintained temple than a library. How could a library be more splendid than the average noble’s mansion?
‘It’s even more impressive than the Count’s residence.’
As she continued, marveling at her surroundings, a vast hall opened up before her. The space was lined with bookshelves on every side. In the center of the room, she spotted a man seated at a desk. His coat was draped over the back of his chair, and his shirt sleeves were rolled up. He lifted his arm, revealing well-defined muscles, and rested his chin on the back of his hand.
Ariel quietly approached and sat across from Lexius.
Although it was obvious that he had noticed her, he slyly kept his eyes lowered. His golden eyes moved slowly across the pages of an ancient book that was opened in front of him, filled with text that required some deciphering.
She recalled a similar encounter with Racine.
‘…Things didn’t turn out well that time.’
How would it go this time? Would it be okay if she talked to him…
Her eyes studied him silently.
Lexius was wearing round glasses. The transparent lenses with gold rims glinted. It really didn’t suit him at all. His sharp features clashed terribly with the glasses as if someone had forced a scholarly look onto his face.
‘I wish he didn’t wear them. Is his eyesight really that bad?’
She stared at the unpolished round frames perched on his loafer face.
After his eyes quickly glanced at her before returning to the book, she could hear a chuckle. For some reason, the playful laugh sounded familiar. As Ariel recalled the moment less than a month ago at the Count’s residence when he had teased her mercilessly, she felt embarrassed for no reason.
“Your Highness the Grand Prince.”
“….”
“Senior Lex.”
“Yeah.”
He tilted his head obliquely. His eyes were half-closed and relaxed as if sleepy, and the faintly upturned corners of his mouth made even those terrible glasses look acceptable on his impressive appearance.
‘Ah, but the glasses still don’t suit him.’
Ariel repeatedly shifted her gaze away from his glasses and subtly asked,
“Do you wear glasses when you read?”
“No. I just wore them.”
“….”
“I guess they don’t suit me, huh?”
“Yes.”
He chuckled and then took off his glasses, placing them on the desk. The sharp eyes that were hidden by the frames were now clearly visible.
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to see you.”
“I know. What’s the matter?”
“…I’m having trouble making the schedule. I’ve filled it out roughly, but I was wondering if you could take a look at it?”
“Let me see it.”
Ariel handed over the schedule she had temporarily filled out. He took it without saying a word, glanced over it, and then smirked.
“You’re only choosing the easy stuff. Did you come here to play?”
“No… because I lack knowledge… I don’t think just attending many lectures will be helpful. To be honest, I don’t even know which lectures would be useful.”
“Now that I think about it, you didn’t even know verbal command.”
“…Yes. I really don’t even know the basics…”
Mentioning that incident made Ariel feel embarrassed again, so she lowered her eyes. Lexius looked at her with a meaningful gaze before picking up a pen. Without any discussion, he roughly scribbled and arbitrarily modified the schedule.
“Um, Senior, could you tell me…”
“There, it’s done.”
Then, he handed over the schedule he had filled out as he pleased. He had crossed out the listed lectures and added four new ones: 〈 Magic Theory 〉, 〈 Magic Combat 〉, 〈 Magic Engineering 〉, 〈 Advanced Magic Warfare. 〉
“Senior, aren’t these advanced subjects? And two of them are practical training. I don’t think I can do them at my level. Especially the practice—”
“Listening to just the basic theory won’t get you anywhere.”
He cut her off bluntly.
“Magic is meant to be used, not just listened to.”
It made sense. If she combined it with practical exercises, her skills would improve quickly. Nonetheless, she didn’t come here to study and hone her magical power. Her real goals were conquest and favorability, ultimately aiming for a special ending.
However, if she attended these classes, she’d inevitably have to study and put in a lot of effort.
“…Will I be able to keep up?”
“I’ll teach you the basics.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Come here by nine o’clock on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.”
If that were the case, then there was no reason she should avoid these difficult subjects. In fact, if it ensured regular meetings with Lexius, she would welcome it. Ariel finally felt like she was making proper progress in her conquest of him.
‘With this, I have a reason to meet him. If I show a sincere attitude from now on, my favorability should improve a bit, right?’
