Chapter 21.2
‘…Was my body really that unwell?’
Even when she thought about it, her condition didn’t seem that bad. While she was tired, certainly not to the point of fainting…
“Are you feeling all right?”
Seeing Canon sending a worried glance, Ariel stopped her thoughts and nodded her head.
“Ung. I’m okay.”
“Then, I’ll help you change your clothes. The Grand Prince will be waiting for you downstairs.”
“Yes. I’ll be ready in a minute.”
It seemed he had somehow made it into the mansion.
Ariel suppressed the sigh that threatened to escape her and pulled the blanket up. It seemed that pajamas were draped over her body while her original clothes and belongings were neatly placed on the table next to her. As she lethargically rummaged through the table, her eyes widened as she spotted a small, rectangular object.
Her phone, which must have been in the pocket of her dress, was sitting on the table.
Ariel felt her heart sink.
It didn’t matter if the servants found out since some people already knew about the existence of her phone. However, since she adorned it as a decoration or amulet, few people expressed interest in it.
Regardless, it was different with high-ranking nobles. They were more likely to find that item peculiar since they were more accustomed to magic devices.
It was dangerous to have her cell phone get caught by the Grand Prince.
“Canon, my cell… Since when has my amulet been there?”
“Are you talking about the white thing you always carry with you?”
“Yeah. The one on the table.”
Canon took a quick glance as Ariel pointed at her phone.
“I took the liberty of organizing it separately while I was changing the Young Lady’s clothes earlier.”
This meant that she was the only one who saw the phone.
‘…Thank goodness.’
Ariel let out a small sigh of relief and smiled at Canon.
“Thank you.”
“…I was just doing my job.”
“Thank you again, really.”
Canon nodded awkwardly at the sincere words before she smiled a little.
“I’m going to bring some clothes, so please wait a moment.”
Then, she quietly headed to the dressing room.
Even though it seemed as though she probably had many questions, she didn’t ask them. Ariel was grateful for her consideration. Not only was Canon quick-witted, but she was also considerate and skilled at her tasks. She couldn’t express enough how grateful she was to have someone like her as her personal maid.
‘I should talk to Mother and ask her to raise Canon’s salary.’
As the young lady of this house, that might be the best thing she could do. Ariel mused before her expression stiffened when she looked at her phone.
Downstairs, there was the Grand Prince, who was one of the targets.
She needed to check his profile now since she couldn’t have done so earlier. At the thought, Ariel put everything else aside and picked up her phone.
『 Lexius Créssien
* Title: Grand Prince (Eldest son of the Grand Duke of Créssien, brother of the Emperor)
* Age: 18
* Be cautious of his unusual violence
▷ Favorability towards you: ♥ (He’s interested in you, and if you talk to him, there’s a high probability of him responding.)>
▷ Current Location: County of Huckley’s Main Residence — 1st Floor Drawing Room 』
As expected, the Grand Prince also had blood ties to the imperial family. Ariel found herself in a state of uncertainty, unsure whether to feel pleased or to cry as she had anticipated. Subsequently, she bit her nails as she read the unsettling phrase, ‘Be cautious of his unusual violence.’
‘…Unusual violence? Does it refer to that ferocity of smashing down everything, whether it’s the bonnet or the doors?’
She looked uneasily at the portrait of him prominently displayed in the mansion’s finest drawing room. It seemed as if there was a landmine planted inside the house.
Knock, knock, knock.
At the sound of the knock, Ariel looked away from her phone.
“Young Lady, may I come in?”
“Yeah, come in.”
Canon returned in a hurried manner before she soon adorned her master with great care. While she wore a black party dress, her ebony-like hair was tied up with a ribbon. Ariel, now fully dressed, looked elegant enough to attend a royal banquet. Though, at the moment, it might seem unnecessary since they were just at home.
After checking her appearance, she calmly headed downstairs. Coincidentally, she encountered the Countess as she was leaving the drawing room.
“Mother.”
“Ariel. The Grand Prince is waiting. Make sure you present yourself properly.”
“Yes, I understood.”
They concluded their brief formal conversation. As usual, the Countess wasn’t particularly warm, but she wasn’t excessively cold either.
Ariel took a deep breath and grabbed the doorknob, turning it.
As she entered the reception room, she could immediately see the Grand Prince. He was seated at the head of the table directly facing the door. His previously indifferent expression changed when his eyes met hers.
“You disobeyed my order* and woke up? I made it enough to last two hours for you to get a good rest.”
[ T/N: Since the author used the word ‘언령,’ it could either mean ‘order’ or ‘command,’ but it could also mean ‘spell’ in the context of magic—magical command or incantation. The latter kind of makes sense since Ariel did mention at the beginning of this chapter that it didn’t feel like she was ‘falling asleep’ but rather ‘being trapped, unable to break free from something formless and dark’ and ‘as if she had blindfolded her eyes, forcibly imposing drowsiness on her mind.’ I’ll change the word accordingly in the future once there’s more context! ]
“Order? What do you mean by that?”
When Ariel asked about the strange term, he laughed.
“I heard you’ve been living at home… It seems everything the Countess said is true.”
Rather than giving a precise answer, he winked before glancing at the seat next to him as if gesturing to her to sit down. However, Ariel avoided the seat beside him and sat on another sofa positioned at an angle. Until she knew what he was talking about, she wanted to keep a distance from him, thinking that it might happen again.
Lexius observed Ariel’s behavior with an expressionless face before smirking.
“That doesn’t mean I can’t go sit next to you.”
Then, he tilted his head mockingly as he spoke in a playful tone. The corners of his mouth twisted upward in a sneer, revealing sharp teeth, and he stared at her persistently.
“So, why don’t you just come next to me?”
