I Unintentionally Cured the Grand Duke’s Insomnia - Chapter 41
21. The Extras’ Rebellion (1)
“What are you doing now?!”
“I knew it! I shouldn’t have believed in human words…!”
“No!”
Yelling back, I turned my back to cover my ears with my front paws at the screams of the shapeshifters that sounded like it was about to tear my eardrums apart.
“Oh, really! Watch to the end before getting angry like that!”
With their eyes shining wildly at my words as I turned around, they suddenly froze. They glanced at my clean lips and looked embarrassed. Then, when he saw Noya’s eyes gradually changing, the eyes of the shapeshifters who were busy screaming turned round in surprise.
“That’s, that’s absurd! You mean Noya turned into a human?”
“What’s going on…?”
The bewildered shapeshifters added.
Seeing them, somehow, I felt rather proud.
In fact, most of the shapeshifters in this novel were born with a bit of divine power. They were free to turn into humans with their divine powers. So, shapeshifters turning into humans with the divine power they were born with was probably because of the author’s behind-the-scenes setup that the divine dragon that protects the Lian Empire created the shapeshifters…?
…Wait, then what if they ask how do I know the behind-the-scenes that were imposed?
I grimaced at the fact that suddenly came to mind before shaking my head.
Well, it does not matter in this current situation.
Regardless, among them, Noya alone was unable to humanize until he was seven years old. The villagers who saw him seemed to regard him as a pitiful and lacking child without the least divine power. Even Noya himself thought he was an incompetent person who could not even turn into a human, so he must have been ashamed.
But, the reality was different.
The reason he was unable to turn into a human was not because he lacked divine power, but because it was so vast that it went beyond the realm of his control.
As soon as he was born, Noya, who was going between life and death with holy power that ran wild beyond his ability, was accidentally discovered by the Pope passing by the village of Winder and saved his life. The Pope then gave his parents a necklace to restrain his divine power and to help him control his divine power with the necklace until he was five years old.
However, his parents, who remember Noya’s childhood, as he had to go back and forth between life and death, died in fear without allowing him to remove his necklace or telling him what it was. For that reason, Noya did not know that he had such a vast amount of divine powers nor that he could turn into a human at any time by loosening his necklace.
I smiled as I watched Noya wiggle his hands in disbelief.
Seeing his bright eyes looking at me, I grinned playfully and tried to stroke the boy’s head. It was not until I realized that I had become a puppy and was not able to reach Noya’s head.
“That’s great, Noya.”
As I applauded with my tiny front paws and praised him as I intended, Noya blushed red at how awkward it was to receive compliments. Nonetheless, his child-like, innocent appearance was so cute that I could not help but smiled.
At that moment, my body suddenly rose into the air again. When I struggled to turn back to look, Cain was already staring at me with his hardened face.
“You look happy, my fiancée.”
While Cain gazed at me with his chilled gaze, dry saliva ran down my throat.
I smiled awkwardly and peered at him when I heard a growl next to him. Confused at the sight of Noya spitting out murderous intent towards Cain with his teeth exposed, I raised my hand in a flash.
“No, you can’t do that! Stop!”
Noya, who seemed to be running towards him at any moment, hesitated as if embarrassed by my remarks. Meanwhile, Cain glanced at him like that with a bewildered look before throwing the key to the cages that he was holding to him.
“Now that you’re like this, you’ll be able to just free the shapeshifters.”
Instinctively picking up the key that he had thrown, Noya still did not move from his seat as if he did not like Cain’s words. Seeing him like that, I impatiently opened my mouth.
“Noya, I beg you.”
After thinking for a while about what I said, he eventually turned around and ran to the iron cage as though he had no choice. I finally let out a shallow sigh as I watched what was going on while Cain, who was looking at me, spat out his voice as if displeased.
“You look happy, Adelia.”
“Ra, rather than being happy, things are going according to plan… Your Highness, are you angry?”
Asking that, I blinked as I glanced at Cain, who looked somehow upset. His red eyes, which had gleamed as beautifully as rubies, shone as red as blood.
I carefully persisted, gulping down my dry saliva in fear.
