I Unintentionally Cured the Grand Duke’s Insomnia - Chapter 107
54. — Things That Help With a Good Night’s Sleep (1)
The morning at the Grand Duke’s residence was wonderful. The soft yet savory potato soup was delicious, but the best part was the bagel sandwich topped with plenty of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits, with a sunny-side-up egg on the side. Of course, the chocolate tart served as dessert was also beyond reproach.
“Does the food suit your taste?”
“Yes, it’s really delicious!”
I nodded and smiled in response to Cain’s question. I even gave a thankful nod to the servant who was pouring tea.
The woman’s face, which seemed slightly surprised, flushed red almost imperceptibly.
Feeling satisfied with the meal, I bobbed my head rhythmically, feeling good. Then, I poured some appropriately heated milk into the black tea the maid had brought me, making myself a milk tea. As I sipped and savored the fragrant scent of tea, my gaze drifted absentmindedly in the direction where Cain was.
The fragrant scent of coffee beans wafted from his teacup.
‘…Coffee beans? No, is the person who has trouble sleeping drinking coffee right now?’
“Are you drinking coffee right now?”
I asked incredulously as my hand that was reaching for the teacup froze. As I gazed at him with a keen gaze, he shrugged his shoulders and replied.
“Is there a problem?”
“Yes, there is! Absolutely! If you have trouble sleeping, why are you drinking coffee?”
“….”
“Have some green tea instead! Or chamomile. Drinking coffee will make it harder for you to sleep!”
While Cain’s eyes narrowed at the chattering and nagging, a faint smile appeared on Roan’s face as he stood by the doorway.
Cain, who was about to reach for his cup again, let out a shallow sigh. Seeing Roan’s quick understanding, he gestured subtly towards the servant bringing tea, and the maid promptly set the teacup back in front of their master.
“It’s green tea, Your Highness.”
“…You move very quickly.”
Despite his tone sounding somewhat displeased, Cain’s face was plastered with a pleasant smile.
I looked at him proudly before neatly setting down my emptied teacup.
The meal had been so delicious that I didn’t even think about it, but there were more foods in his diet that wouldn’t help him get a good night’s sleep, as I had expected.
I spoke quickly, fumbling through the information I had gathered when I was characterizing Cain.
“From now on, don’t drink coffee unless you have a special occasion. Instead of coffee, it’s better to drink tea that helps you fall asleep, like the green tea or chamomile I mentioned earlier.”
“….”
“And if I remember correctly, bananas are good for a good night’s sleep. Even if you’re not particularly fond of them, you could try them flambéed or crumbled, and it tastes delicious.”
“….”
“Oh, chocolate isn’t good for a good night’s sleep either. While this tart is delicious, it won’t help Your Highness sleep well, so I’ll take care of yours!”
I added, sliding the last of the chocolate tart onto my plate.
There was a look of bewilderment on his face as the last remaining tart was taken from him. I pretended not to notice his expression as I cut a piece of the tart and put it into my mouth.
The overwhelmingly sweet taste sent shivers down my spine.
Cain, who had been laughing in disbelief, shook his head and reached out for his teacup. Then, the bitter taste of green tea created clear wrinkles between his eyebrows.
‘Does Cain not like green tea?’
I stared at him intently, intrigued by this side of him that I had not known before. At the same time, I bit my lip hard to stifle the laughter that threatened to escape as I watched him sip his tea with his face scrunched up in a frown.
As a gentle breeze swayed in, carrying with it a sense of tranquility, the atmosphere in the dining room became serene.
“Do you have any other plans for today?”
“Me?”
I asked back, looking at Cain’s face as he put down his teacup with a frown on his face. Seeing him nodding slightly made me recall my memory for a moment.
Obviously, the plans I have for today…
“There is.”
“Yes, I’m going to rest at home today. I’m thinking of getting some sleep and reading a book I’ve been wanting to read for a while…”
“You don’t have one.”
“…Yes?”
“It doesn’t seem like you have any special plans, so maybe we could spend it together…”
“No!”
“….?”
“I said I have plans, didn’t I?”
Seeing him easily ignoring my words, I, too, brushed off his words nonchalantly. Cain, who seemed to be frowning at my words as I interrupted him for a moment, soon broke into a smile.
Somehow, that expression left a lingering unease in my heart.
“Why are you laughing so uneasily…”
“Did you lie to me last night?”
“Yes?”
“I trusted your words that we would share meals and talk every day so that I could be happy.”
“Oh, no, that’s—!”
“If those words were just empty promises, I feel like our relationship might become very difficult in the future.”
The sight of him smiling with only the corners of his mouth raised somehow sent a chill down my spine. The next moment, I awkwardly raised the corner of my mouth as I saw him demanding an answer with his eyes.
“T-That’s not… possible. I have to go.”
