I Think I’m a Horror Game Villain - Chapter 94
Chapter 94
“So, I’ll wait. Until you find me.”
His words were a string of enigmas. He set me down, a slightly pained smile on his face.
“What are you talking about? Find you? What does that even…?”
Whooooosh!
A blue light flared, blinding me. I instinctively closed my eyes.
“What are you doing?!”
I cried out in alarm, but there was no answer.
‘Huh?’
When I opened my eyes, he was gone.
“…Hello?”
The blue lantern he’d been carrying had also vanished. The hallway was plunged back into darkness.
‘Why did he disappear so suddenly?’
He’d left without a word, after uttering those cryptic words.
I felt a pang of… disappointment.
‘No, disappointment? What am I talking about? I’m not even friends with that ghost. Why would I be disappointed?’
I wasn’t disappointed at all. And yet—
‘I should have at least asked his name.’
I pushed aside the lingering regret and stood up.
Where was I, anyway?
My hand, groping in the darkness, brushed against something.
‘What? This is…!’
A doorknob.
He’d said he was taking me to the restroom. Was this the restroom door?
I slowly reached for the doorknob. Or rather, I tried to.
Grab.
A gloved hand clamped down on my shoulder.
“Aaah!”
I flailed, trying to shake off the hand.
“Lady Heyna.”
“L-Let go! Let go of me!”
“Lady Heyna. Please calm down.”
That voice…
“Butler?”
“Yes, it’s Pulse.”
I turned to see Pulse, holding a yellow lantern, giving a slight bow.
“Butler, what are you doing here…?”
“I came to check on you as you seemed unwell. When I found you weren’t in your room, I began searching for you.”
“Oh… I’m sorry for worrying you. I wanted to use the restroom, but my lantern broke, and I got a little lost.”
I didn’t mention the man I’d been with. I had a feeling it was best not to, for reasons I couldn’t explain.
“That must have been quite distressing. I’ll replace your lantern with a more durable one.”
“Thank you. I’ll just be a moment.”
As I reached for the door again, Pulse caught my wrist.
“Lady Heyna, if you don’t mind my asking, have you memorized all the rules from the guidebook?”
“Yes, not perfectly, but almost.”
“Then, could you tell me Rule Number Six?”
“Rule Number Six… that’s about the location of the restroom, right?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“The restroom is at the end of the hallway on the left. The room at the end of the hallway on the right is off-limits, so please don’t confuse the two.”
Pulse smiled kindly. “Excellent.”
“What? It’s nothing to be praised for…”
“You’ve memorized it perfectly backwards.”
“What?”
“The restroom is at the end of the hallway on the right, not the left.”
“…What?”
“The room you are about to enter is off-limits.”
That couldn’t be.
Pulse continued, seeing my speechless bewilderment. “If you insist on opening the door, I won’t stop you, Lady Heyna.”
“Oh, no.”
To show I had no intention of opening the door, I removed my hand from the knob and took a few steps back.
‘So, this is the forbidden room at the end of the hallway on the left?’
“Why is this room off-limits?” I asked casually.
Pulse responded with another question. “Are you curious?”
“Yes.”
Forbidden rooms always held dark secrets or tragic stories. Of course, I was curious.
“If you’re truly curious, you may enter.”
“…What? I thought it wasn’t allowed?”
“Technically, it isn’t. However, I am merely a guide, here to ensure the safety of our guests. Whether you follow the rules or not is your choice. I won’t interfere if you wish to enter.”
So, he’d tell me the rules, but if I broke them and something bad happened, it wasn’t his problem.
“Will you go inside?” His tone was strangely encouraging.
“I won’t.”
I had no intention of opening that door, even before I knew it was forbidden. Opening a forbidden door and meeting a gruesome end was a horror movie cliché.
‘I’m not a horror movie protagonist. Why would I do something so reckless?’
“Very well. Then, allow me to escort you to the restroom.”
“Yes.”
I started to follow him but stopped after a few steps.
“Lady Heyna?”
“I’m sorry. I twisted my ankle earlier.”
Pulse examined my ankle. “It appears you’ll have difficulty walking on your own…”
He considered for a moment, then, with a natural ease, scooped me into his arms.
“Please excuse me. I apologize for any discomfort.”
“….”
Carried by Pulse after that nameless ghost—what was my life coming to? As the butler carried me down the hall, a crucial realization struck me.
‘That ghost brought me here.’
Coming to this place hadn’t been my choice at all. He’d promised to take me to the restroom, but I’d arrived not at a restroom, but in front of a forbidden room. Had he deliberately led me here? Did he want me to open the door and step inside?
‘I thought he wasn’t a bad ghost…’
The feeling that washed over me wasn’t fear, but disappointment at the realization I’d been completely fooled.
