Chapter 25

* * *

“Thank God, there’s a bathroom on the first floor.”

Emerging from the Room of Memories, we studied the map and found a suitable room to sleep in. Fortunately, there was a bedroom and a bathroom nearby. Rose, who had just finished showering, leaped into bed with her hair glistening like morning dew on a rose.

“Hey, what are you doing? Your hair’s wet and dripping water all over the bed!”

Tommy’s sarcastic remark was met with Rose sticking out her tongue and playfully retaliating.

“So what? It’s not your bed anyway.”

Rose’s defensive gaze, which had been glaring at Tommy like a wary cat, softened as soon as it fell upon me.

“Is it okay, Heyna?”

“Yes.”

“See, Heyna says it’s okay.”

“Does she look like she’s okay?”

Whenever their eyes met, they’d fight like cats and dogs. Whether Rose and Tommy fought or not, and whether my bed became a damp mess due to water falling from Rose’s head—now was not the time to be concerned about such trivial matters.

‘Am I really the villain here?’

Why? What could be the reason?

What does it mean to be a villain?

In horror games, a villain refers to the perpetrator who lures the player to a specific location and traps them there, preventing them from escaping. In other words, it means that the person who has confined the characters here is me.

‘This is ridiculous.’

If I had really constrained the characters here, I wouldn’t feel unjust. I’m also trapped here without any freedom, so how can I be the villain?

I felt frustrated.

However, being frustrated like this wouldn’t change anything.

Regardless, I am the villain, and one of the ways to escape from this mansion is to eliminate the villain.

‘I’m f*cked.’

Is there any other phrase that expresses the current situation better than this?

The fortunate thing amidst the misfortune is that there are ways to end the game besides eliminating the villain. So far, two methods have been revealed.

The first is collection completion.

This method is exclusive to me. By completing the collection, I can leave the game and regain my real life.

The second is achieving the true ending.

By achieving the true ending, I can escape from this dreadful mansion along with the characters. However, this method is only offered to the ‘player,’ not to me. Whether leaving the mansion will end the game remains uncertain.

Then, my goal is…

‘Achieving the true ending.’

Dekir, Rose, Tommy, and Zion.

During the day we spent together, I began to perceive them as ‘people’ rather than just characters. It was because their desperate efforts to survive were no different from mine.

And…

‘Is it possible that I’ve grown attached to them?’

I didn’t want to leave the four of them behind and escape from the game alone.

Of course, I would be the only one leaving the game, but I wished for the four of them to escape from the mansion and find their own happy endings.

By achieving the true ending and not being exposed as the villain, I could escape from the mansion with everyone.

Once I had set my goal, I had a sense of direction about what I should do next.

First of all…

“Rose, what kind of person do you like?”

“Huh?”

Rose, who didn’t understand my sudden question, looked at me with a puzzled expression.

“What kind of person do I like? You mean, what’s my ideal type?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

It wasn’t necessarily about her ideal type. More precisely, it was a question to find out what kind of person she is attracted to.

“Why are you asking that all of a sudden? Are we talking about ideal types right now?”

Tommy shot back sharply.

Rose, upon hearing his words, frowned and said, “My ideal type is someone with a personality completely opposite to Tommy’s.”

“Hah! Same here. As long as the girl here doesn’t have a strange personality, I don’t care,” Tommy replied.

“What? Who has a strange personality?” Rose retorted.

“You, Rose. You,” Tommy said.

“I really don’t like rude guys. Like you.”

“I also don’t want anything to do with a selfish, arrogant woman like you!”

The two of them exchanged fiery glances for a moment.

“Tommy, stop it. Rose, calm down,” I interjected.

“Who are you to tell me what to do?”

“Lower your voice, Tommy. If you keep shouting like that, what will you do if the hand we encountered earlier comes back?”

Tommy expressed his displeasure with a raised eyebrow. His already sharp eyebrows furrowed and twitched. He glared at me with fiery eyes but then turned his head away.

I muttered, “Rose, let’s continue our previous conversation. What kind of person is your ideal type?”

“My ideal type is someone like a prince from a fairy tale—kind and wonderful. Someone who helps me in difficult situations and understands me well,” Rose said.

Her ideal type was someone who understood her, as she had difficulty expressing her true feelings.

“What about you, Tommy?”

“Such useless talk is better left to girls. It’s not like we’re at a picnic or anything…” Tommy replied dismissively, lying down on his bed and tossing the blanket.

“Then should I speak instead of Tommy?” Dekir chimed in.

As expected of Dekir, he casually picked up the topic when Tommy’s remarks dampened the atmosphere.

“I like someone who is like a cat. Someone who, at first, is cautious and tries to avoid me, but when they realize that I’m a nice and caring person, they want to have me all to themselves,” Dekir said, smiling.

Dekir’s words made me smile. It felt like his gaze was saying, ‘My ideal type is you, Heyna,’ but perhaps that was just my imagination.

“Zion, what about you?”

“Oh, well… I…”
