Chapter 108

Hazy memories surfaced. I definitely received a mission offering a life as a reward. How could I forget something so important, especially since I can’t save? But I couldn’t recall the mission itself, or how I completed it.

‘Wait. Could Napolitan have tampered with other memories besides entry number thirteen in the guide?’

That would explain the inconsistencies in my memories, the missing pieces of the puzzle.

If Napolitan was behind all this….

“Shall we go then?”

Before I could finish my thought, the elevator doors closed.

“Are you insane?” Rose grabbed Dekir by the collar. Her tear-stained, rose-tinted eyes were narrowed in fury.

“Would you mind letting go? I don’t know what this is about.”

Unlike the trembling, furious Rose, Dekir remained utterly calm, not a flicker of emotion in his expression. He looked at her with the detached indifference one might show an inanimate object.

Rose flinched at his reaction. He was like empty air, devoid of light, form, or even coldness. Rose, a socialite accustomed to a wide array of personalities, had never encountered anyone so strange and unsettling.

‘This is so weird! He’s a completely different person!’

She’d noticed it before—the subtle shift in Dekir whenever Heyna was absent, or out of sight.

‘At first, I thought he was just trying to impress her….’

She’d assumed he was feigning kindness to win Heyna’s favor. Trying to appear good in front of someone you liked wasn’t a crime, so she’d let it slide. Of course, she wouldn’t have stood idly by if this two-faced man had actually gotten together with Heyna.

‘But it’s not just that. This is….’

It wasn’t simply about impressing Heyna. Dekir only seemed human in her presence. Without her, he was like an empty shell, lacking the basic morality and emotions expected of a person.

‘I’m not mistaken! If I wasn’t close to her, he would have killed me.’

Her instincts, sharper than most, screamed at her. This man was dangerous.

“Rose.”

His voice, cold and sharp as ice, pierced her skin.

“Let go.”

The gentle, monotone voice carried an unmistakable threat. Rose’s grip loosened, her hand falling away.

‘Heyna….’

Facing a man who seemed ready to kill her, Rose thought of Heyna, her precious friend, whom she had met here.

Click.

The door opened, and another figure entered. He, too, offered no solace.

“Is there a problem?”

The mastermind behind their predicament, the wicked ghost who had trapped them here with his arbitrary rules.

Glaring at the self-proclaimed butler, Rose clenched her fists.

“Butler, repeat what you told me earlier.”

He might be a powerful ghost, but she was Rose Liverton of Liverton House, and she wouldn’t be silenced by a mere servant.

‘It’s okay. He can’t hurt me if I don’t break the rules.’

Her body trembled, the horrific experience from earlier that morning flashing back. Her mouth went dry. Maintaining a facade of composure, she lifted her chin defiantly.

“I informed you that Master Dekir provided a hint, allowing Lady Heyna and her companions to prepare for their departure.”

“So, is that true?”

Rose’s sharp gaze fixed on Dekir. Without meeting her eyes, he gave a bored nod.

“Yes, it’s true.”

“Do you really think you can just casually admit that?”

“I don’t understand your anger, Rose. I simply helped Heyna.”

Rose didn’t know how Dekir had provided the hint, but one thing was certain.

“If the others leave, we’ll be trapped here forever!”

If Heyna, Zion, or Tommy failed to remember Dekir and Rose, they would never escape.

“Helping Heyna is fine, but you should have made sure they’d remember us first.”

A faint crease appeared between Dekir’s pale brows. He raised an eyebrow, then let out a short, “Ah.”

“I hadn’t considered that.”

He shrugged, his expression suggesting genuine ignorance of Rose’s point.

‘No, he’s definitely acting!’

Tommy might be gullible, but Dekir couldn’t possibly misunderstand something so simple.

‘But then, why would he do this?’

Rose couldn’t fathom Dekir’s motives.

Her confusion was shattered by the butler’s chilling announcement.

“Lady Heyna and her companions have just opened the elevator doors.”
