I Reincarnated As A Villainess, But Why Did I Become A Cat Butler Instead? - Chapter 295
Chapter 148.1
Startled, Coco looked around to see if there was a place to hide.
“I think there’s something there.”
“What’s there?”
The man looked up.
At that moment, sensing danger, Coco sprang like a flying squirrel, leaping off a protruding part of the second-floor exterior wall. The moment he darted into it like a bullet into an open window he had luckily discovered and disappeared, the man’s gaze landed on the branch where he had been.
“I don’t think there’s anything.”
He heard the man muttering below the window and the sound of him shaking the tree he had been sitting on. The branch shook violently, and the leaves rustled noisily as they collided.
“Phew.”
After wiping his chest, Coco quickly checked his surroundings and dashed down the corridor, concealing his presence. It wasn’t that difficult to find the room where Renée was. There were only a few doors on the fourth floor, and only one door had guards stationed in front of it.
As he was wondering how he could enter the room, he saw a maid carrying a tray with food. Coco’s pupils widened and then narrowed.
“This is the meal for the Countess of Trier.”
As the maid spoke to the guards, they opened the door without any suspicion upon seeing the maid’s familiar face.
Coco confidently followed the maid inside, not bothering to hide himself. When people usually open a door and step inside, they would be distracted by the interior and wouldn’t look down at their feet, and the person who opened the door rarely looked down to see who was entering. He simply slipped into the room through the gaps between several pairs of feet.
Once inside, a woman with a haggard face turned around and saw the maid bringing the food. Her eyes soon widened in surprise when she noticed him.
“Uh…?”
He lifted a front paw, spread one small, round finger, and placed it near his mouth.
‘Shh.’
Renée’s eyes widened even more.
She stared blankly at Coco, who confidently and shamelessly walked across the carpet, then quietly sat like a statue on top of another decoration.
In the meanwhile, the maid set down the tray of food and turned to leave. Even though she must have seen Coco as she turned around, she left the room without noticing the presence of the cat sitting like a statue, perfectly blending into the background.
“Who are you?”
Renée looked interested and staggered closer to Coco. Her arms and legs, visible through the thin fabric of her light slip, were emaciated. It seemed like she wasn’t eating properly.
“The Duchess of Blois sent me here!”
“Huuk!”
When he whispered low to Renée, who was shocked to hear a talking cat, she was so startled that she collapsed onto the floor. Coco hopped down beside her and spoke again.
“Rowaine! You know Rowaine, right?”
“Shapeshifter…!”
“Get a hold of yourself. Here’s a note from Duchess Blois.”
He fidgeted with the ribbon around his neck. However, the blunt paws of the cat couldn’t pull out the note. Meanwhile, Renée watched him struggle and, reacting belatedly to the name Rowaine, cautiously reached out her hand to him.
“I-I’ll do it for you.”
Coco obediently offered his neck.
Renée carefully fumbled with his ribbon. After several slips of her hand and just when Coco’s tail began to swish back and forth in frustration, she finally managed to remove the note from his neck.
The note had only Rowaine’s signature on it. It was clearly her handwriting.
“Why is this…”
Coco cleared his throat.
“The Duchess of Blois said you would need proof that she sent me, in case you don’t believe me.”
The note wasn’t only a verification of his identity for Renée but also a proof that she was his guardian in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
“Here is the Duchess’s message!”
Coco tapped his head confidently.
“The Duchess said that if you’re in trouble, she’ll come to your aid, so please wait. She also asked you to tell her what’s going on and to check if you’re in any danger. If she knows the situation, she’ll quickly make a plan accordingly.”
Hearing this, tears welled up in Renée’s eyes.
“I never thought there would be someone to save me…”
He listened to her story for a long time.
She had a lot of stories to tell Rowiane.

‘Coco is late…’
I was waiting for Coco at the place we had agreed to meet. However, no matter how much time passed, he didn’t show up, and I started to get worried.
I hope he hasn’t been discovered by someone.
As time went on, regret grew in my heart. Could it be that I have entrusted too much work to my small and delicate Coco? What would I do if he was captured by someone and locked up somewhere, crying? Was it too reckless to bring him all the way to the palace?
‘Once again, I’m worrying and not trusting.’
