I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 18.2
Chapter 18.2
***
After setting signs and passwords for each other, Trish and I headed to the ‘Moonlake’ casino at different times.
Trish’s role was to go to the casino first, understand the overall atmosphere of the gambling scene, and attract people. After he gathered people while getting the interest of the ladies like last time, my role was to appear at the right time and bring out a new game.
It wouldn’t be like that with the boring trump cards, but when they saw the cards from the East with colorful flowers and birds, they were bound to become interested.
Introducing it simply as a game to match pairs, teaching Trish and the ladies how to play it, and proceeding with a few rounds was today’s task.
Over the next week, we were going to gather people interested in Hwatu and have a big game.
After paying the entrance fee to the guards guarding the casino door, I stepped inside and slowly looked around.
The scenery looked no different from the last time I came to search for Trish.
However, rather than looking for someone, I went to the bar and ordered a glass of wine like someone interested in this place itself, and I even looked at the gentlemen who were tilting their glasses, eager to play poker.
Recognizing that my outfit was different from the usual fashion trend, the bartender asked implicitly as he wiped the glasses.
“Lady, are you new here?”
“Yes. I came here on a recommendation, but this place feels a little different from my usual one.”
“Just let me know if you’re curious about anything. The main game that women play in our establishment is blackjack or roulette, where the rules are easy to understand.”
“Oh, I’ve played that so much that it’s boring now.”
And like a person who was bored of everything, I spread out my fan and asked the bartender.
“Apart from playing with a dealer, do you have any original games here?”
“Well… Although the guests do play it occasionally, there is no official game in our casino.”
“I think the boss is frugal. Either that, or he’s not greedy.”
Modern casinos tended to attract guests by creating their own flagship games, but it seemed that the gambling scene here had not yet developed to that point.
I handed the emptied glass of wine to the bartender and headed to the corner of the casino I had carefully observed before.
Trish’s face was full of joy as he rolled the dice among the women and played Blue Marble. The anxiousness of when I was going to show up and do my part had disappeared without a trace, and he was fully immersed in the game.
‘Gosh, what should I do with that man?’
I glanced at Trish and then cut in between them.
I touched the hwatu deck in my pocket and put it down on the table. The women who had naturally turned their heads when a new figure appeared blinked when they saw the deck.
“What is this? I’ve never seen these cards before.”
“It’s a painting style you don’t usually see. Did you bring that from the East?”
As expected, they were interested.
With a businesslike smile, I showed some of the paintings to the women.
“That’s right. These cards are called ‘Hwatu’, they’re used to play games in the East. It may look complicated because of the colorful shapes, but it’s also easy to play.”
“It’s strange. How do you play it?”
As expected. As more people showed interest after seeing the hwatu, Trish and the other women who had been diligently throwing dice also glanced at the table I was at.
The heat of the game dissipated, and Trish’s gaze naturally turned towards me.
“Can you tell me what kind of game it is, Lady?”
Trish approached me politely as if he had never seen me before and bent down to greet me.
My expression hardened reflexively at his attitude, which was completely different from the way he usually treated me, but it couldn’t be seen thanks to wearing a mask.
I let them know about the hwatu, and made everyone participating in the game draw their attention to me.
It didn’t feel too bad to be a casino dealer for a day and explain hwatu to the women who looked at me with curious eyes. They were all legitimate adults in the first place, and apart from the occasional gambling, it was a game enjoyed during the holidays.
“Wow, I matched it!”
“You’re lucky. Of course, the score you can get for each picture is different. This is called a ‘hongdan’, so…”
We only wanted to attract the attention of the ladies who came to take a look around this place, but if we visited often, through word of mouth, both old ladies and gentlemen would become interested in the new game.
Everything was going smoothly as we had planned.
That was, until ‘that man’ turned his gaze to the place of disturbance.
