I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 16.1
Chapter 16.1
“W-what are you talking about?”
“I heard about it while the lady and I were going out. She said her father was forcing her into an arranged marriage and asked for our relationship to be known before then.”
As Trish hit the nail on the head, Baron Delphonie’s face twisted pleasantly.
I didn’t expect Trish to bring that up and criticize the baron, so I looked between both of them with a bewildered expression.
“Lady, what is the truth?”
When the right to speak came to me, I pondered for a moment as I didn’t know how to answer.
If I said it was a lie, I would be turned against Trish, but if I accused Baron Delphonie, the marriage that had been barely accomplished could be destroyed.
‘Even so, I can’t make Trish a liar.’
Nodding, I replied in a slightly hesitant voice.
“What Sir Trish said is true. I couldn’t find a suitable groom even though I was young, so my father promoted the marriage unilaterally.”
“Audrey! What kind of absurd thing… It was all for you. I did it for our family.”
“Yes, you did. You didn’t know I was in a relationship with Sir Trish.”
‘But now that I have a more suitable marriage partner, you should change your attitude.’
As everyone’s gaze turned to Baron Delphonie, he sighed, sweeping his hair back as if he couldn’t help it.
“Ugh, in any case, it’s true that Viscount Lowell was after Audrey. I refused the Viscount’s proposal because I didn’t want to send my daughter to an older man, but he forced me with his power, and I had no other choice.”
“Hm… Alright. We will take care of Viscount Lowell. Don’t worry.”
From Count Malekiah’s point of view, I was just a woman who had come out of nowhere and had become his daughter-in-law, so I was grateful that he cared so much about me.
I didn’t know what kind of parents they might have been to Trish, but they seemed much nicer to me than the barons. At least for now.
‘I should serve them well after we get married.’
Even if I can’t be a good bride, at least I can be a good daughter-in-law.
Perhaps because they were aware of the circumstances of the Delphonie barony, the count and countess led the conversation without making it burdensome, asking for the ceremony to be done appropriately.
From my point of view, I was in a situation where I had to be grateful even if I got married in ragged clothes, so I was going to do as they told me to.
The baron and baroness also accepted their offer without hesitation because it was the Malekiah family.
In fact, there was no reason for them to say yes or no to the wedding ceremony, as they would receive the funds accordingly on the condition that I be sent to the Malekiah family.
A marriage for each own purposes.
In fact, there was a boring conversation about love and pregnancy on top of a lie that didn’t contain an inch of truth.
In the meantime, Trish, who had just been stirring his already cold coffee, got up from his seat.
“I’m going to the bathroom for a moment.”
“Me too.”
As I also took the opportunity to stand up, the two married couples looked alternately between us before nodding.
The rest was to be solved by the adults, not by us, so it was no longer an important conversation for me after achieving this purpose.
I followed Trish out into the hallway, but he didn’t really look back. However, he stopped at the end of the hallway as if he was bothered by the sound of my heels tapping on the floor.
“Is there anything you want to say?” he asked in an annoyed voice.
“No, not really. I don’t know where the bathroom is.”
“You should ask a servant about such things. Are you going to follow me to the bathroom?”
Trish was speaking in a harsh tone as if there was something wrong.
He had stood by my side and gone along with our little show, so what was the problem this time?
“Are you angry?”
