I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 15.1
Chapter 15.1
“Your h-husband…!”
The girl staggered, pressing her forehead as if she had heard something she shouldn’t have. If the other girls watching from both sides had not supported her, she might have fallen.
Maybe because she was still young, her defense was weak. A single word made her collapse.
“If you don’t have any more business with me, I’ll take my leave.”
“Wait! Since we started the conversation with provocation, aren’t you also supposed to respond?”
“Everything you said is true, so there’s nothing to refute… and we can’t fight loudly in the sacred library. Ladies.”
The gazes of people reading books around us were starting to gather in our direction.
I had already become a topic of discussion, so I didn’t want to attract even more attention.
I wasn’t intending to stay quiet in the mansion in the first place after I got married. If I did, the conversations about me would fade away from the social world, and people would set forth again in search of a new topic to talk about.
“Don’t be too jealous. The Lady is beautiful enough, so you’ll meet an even better spouse.”
“Are you making fun of me?”
“I’m serious. He’s not the only man in the world.”
Besides, he was a piece of trash with only a good-looking face.
Unbeknownst to her, the girl’s two cheeks turned as flushed as the pink dress she wore. She stared at me and shouted, “Don’t be mistaken! I don’t know how an unattractive woman like you seduced Sir Trish, but his interest will quickly cool off. You will surely be abandoned!”
“… We’re in a library.”
Unsurprisingly, the librarian who had been watching us from a distance was approaching to sort out the situation.
It had been a while since I had tried to spend some time reading books quietly, but it all came down to nothing.
“You need to keep quiet in the library.”
“Yes, I’ll keep that in mind. I apologize.”
I politely nodded to the librarian, smiling gently as if I had never done so before.
Then, avoiding the group of girls who were still fuming, unable to hold back their anger, I walked to a place with no one.
I wondered if there would be a myriad of such fights from now on. I was quite tired.
I let out a small sigh as I leaned against a bookshelf that people didn’t usually use.
The media and social circles must already be digging into the details of who Audrey is and what her life has been like.
I should think of it as a destiny I had to endure in order to marry a famous man.
It wasn’t a very bad feeling to be noticed by others, only that the attention was mostly negative.
Fortunately, no one entered the dusty library, and no one in the house was looking for me until I finished reading.
When I came out of the center of the library with the book I had carefully finished reading, the groups of girls had disappeared.
I borrowed a few books to read at home and then left the library.
After walking through the open garden, I felt lighter.
I looked around the garden, freely looking at the flowers in bloom around me, and I saw the royal palace guards moving forward with swift steps, vigilant of their surroundings.
I was watching from a distance, wondering if anything had happened, when the crown prince appeared just two steps behind them. And the one who was giggling with her arms linked with his was definitely the heroine of the original work.
As if I saw something I shouldn’t have seen, I hid myself and watched the two on their intimate walk.
They looked so beautiful that it was worth saying they had a halo around them.
If the people I had met so far belonged to the category of ‘handsome’ and ‘pretty’, it wasn’t an exaggeration to say that their faces were shining.
A depiction that could only come out in a novel was really unfolding before my eyes.
‘They must look like that because they’re the main characters.’
I just had to be ugly and happily watch their backs as they walked.
They looked at each other like they were the only two people left in the world, unable to see anyone else.
“Be happy…”
As a reader who once genuinely cheered for them, I let them go.
Yes, this place was in a finished world, so there was no change in the events or character relationships I saw in the original.
The novel ended, but their lives continued, so I was just looking at one aspect of it.
I wouldn’t be able to interfere in their lives at this point. We could become acquaintances if I tried, but they had a more important relationship that they had already built up throughout the original work.
It was unfortunate, but I had to accept that fact. It may not be a story as beautiful as the original, but I was still managing my life well as Audrey.
“… I should just go back today.”
For some reason, I felt restless.
I didn’t want a grand life or a wonderful lover, but at times like this, I felt like I wasn’t the protagonist of my life even though it was my life.
I shouldn’t be depressed. When I get married, my kind mother-in-law and the vast wealth of Count Malekiah will be waiting for me.
When I go back home, I should ask Sarah to bake a delicious meat pie for dinner.
It was fortunate that my family didn’t starve from the lack of money. I was happy to be able to eat what I wanted.
